" PERFECTIONNEMENTS AUX GRAMOPHONES, PHONOGRAPHES & INSTRUMENTS
ANALOGUES "
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>

A housing 1 is provided with a compartment 2 for a drive motor of a turntable 3 which may have any known conformation and established so as to cooperate with a resonance box and / or a horn (not shown). . Below the compartment 2 is a compartment 4 intended to receive the discs, which are supported on trays 5 and which can be accessed from the outside by a door or window u.
A pair of gripping jaws 8, 9 disposed on a jaw holder 10, is established so as to grip any one of the elements 11 stored in the compartment 4, to place it on the turntable 3, to remove it from this tray after the audition and turn it over if desired or put it back in compartment 4 before choosing another disc. The jaw holder 10 is mounted on a carriage 12 which slides vertically on guide bars 13, 14, which carriage contains an electric motor whose drive member is in engagement with a fixed rack 15.
It will therefore be seen that when the motor placed inside the carriage 12 receives current, this carriage will be raised or lowered on the guides 13, 14, depending on the direction of rotation. tion of said motor.
Then the guides 13, 14 are supported by a frame

cojauutabeurs represented in the 1) 'i. ;;. 4,5 &: 11
These switches are progressively advanced, with the completion of each operation having the effect of advancing the switch by one to initiate the following operation:
The order in which the various discs or the like are to be played is determined in advance. The exterior of the box 1 has a series of pressure buttons 21, the number of which corresponds to the number of discs or the like 11 contained in the magazine, then a switch-switch 22 is also provided for starting the main motor. .l command. Next, three buttons 23, 24, 25 are provided which serve to determine in what order and whether one or both sides of either disc or the like are to be played. For example, assuming disc # 7 is to be played, - first on its top side and then on its bottom side, push button 26 and the disc will then be played in that order.
If, however, you want to play only the upper side of disc # 7 and then, for example, the underside of disc # 9, you will first press key 26, then key 23, then key. button 27 and finally on button 24. If, on the other hand, instead of playing first the upper side of a record and then the lower side, one wishes to play first the lower side and then following the upper face of the same disc, key 25 will determine this.
The number of pieces whose order has been determined will be
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
indicated at a window 28.
If any one of the keys 21, 26, 27 is pressed, the latter abuts against a roller 29 provided at the end of the plunger 30 provided with a stop 31 designed to penetrate against the action of 'a spring 36 in one of the notches 32 prati-. quées in the periphery of each of the discs 33 ... wedged on a shaft 35. The depression of the key 31 produces the closing of the contacts 37,38 interposed in the circuit of an electromagnet 39, FIG. 7, the frame 40 of which is provided with a lever
41 causing the movement of ve and comes from a pawl 42 advancing the shaft 35 from tooth to tooth. times, then we will see that the next button or key 21, 26, 27 can be pressed at will.
It is obvious that in no case there will be two stops
31 housed in notches 32 made in their respective disks 55,54 and arranged along any vertical line.
On the opposite side of a housing 137 enclosing the disks 33 is an opening 138 adapted to cooperate with a contact finger 39 on the housing 12 (fig. 1) to establish the circuit of the motor disposed inside. shoemaker 12.
To allow the operator of the machine to determine in advance the order of the auditions of the discs, the number of which is greater than the number of notches 32 in any half-periphery of the discs 33, a comb 40 is provided and adapted to slide tangentially with respect to the inner periphery of the housing 37, with a view to closing the opening through which the spring keys 21, 26, 27 ... pass, so that the gelets 29 , the stops 31 of which are pressed into the notches of the other half-periphery of the disc 33, can, on their passage towards the opening 138, pass freely opposite said keys.
However, spring plungers 30 which have not been depressed will be retained in the position shown.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
in Fig. 8, while their respective discs will rotate freely (with respect to said plungers), given that each plunger 30 corresponds to a key associated with the comb 40.
An indicator disc 41 is provided on the shaft 35, this disc showing in a window 28 the number of discs? or the like chosen in advance, so that if at any time it is desired to play a number of discs or the like, chosen in advance, less than the maximum number of notches practiced in any one of the discs 33- 34, the operator will notice it thanks to the window 28 and by pressing. repeated blows on a button 42, for example, it will establish the circuit of an electromagnet 43, Fig 6, 7, which electromagnet will cause the advance of a pawl 44 cooperating with a ratchet wheel 45 wedged on the shaft 3b, so as to rotate the discs 33 back, until the first plunger 50 which has been pressed,
SE is located in front of opening 138. Likewise, another push button 46 may be provided to control the circuit of the electromagnet 43, when, at any movement, it is desired to move forward. Hand the pawl 42 on its ratchet wheel and in order to suppress the hearing of a selected disc of a 'Tance.
Normally the two pawls 42 and 44 are out of engagement with their respective ratchets, these pawls being raised by means of suitable cams 47, only one of which is shown in the drawings, these pawls are not 'engaging with their respective ratchet wheels only when the electromagnets 59, respectively 43 are excited,
If desired, it is possible to provide for the control of these electromagnets a device placed at a distance from the apparatus and joined to the housing 1 by means of a flexible cable 48.
Knob 42 or knob 46 may be used to return disks or the like "to zero II or to the normal position. A switch may also be used for this purpose.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
special reset button 49, the depression of which also has the effect of moving the cams 50, 51, intended to set the pegs 52 of the disc 53 and the pegs 54 of the disc 55 "to zero".
These pegs normally occupy a horizontal position, but can be alienated, by means of keys 23,24,25, to occupy the position shown in phantom in FIG.
12, key 25 simultaneously controlling the two keys 23,24
By rotating with the shaft 35, the pins 52,54, cause the closing of the contacts 56,57, isolating one or both sections of a switch 58 (Fig. 4,5) (the development of this switch being shown in Fig. 12). This switch cooperates with a grounding brush 59 and brushes 60, 61 interposed in the circuits of the motors 2, 12 / and 20, and of an electro- The magnet 62 whose armature 63 causes the oscillation of an arm 64 whose pawl 65 engages a ratchet wheel disposed on the switch shaft.
Assuming now that a number of discs have been chosen in advance to be played and that the first disc to be played has been placed in front of the opening 38 provided in the housing, the switch 22 will then be manipulated into view. to supply current to the machine. The electromagnet 62 will then be energized with a view to advancing the switch 58 by one tooth, thus bringing the pads 67, 68 into contact with the brushes interposed in the circuit of the motor 12, which will thus be set in motion. in order to cause the descent of the carriage with the clamping arms 8,9, this descent taking place until the stop 39, along the slot 138 provided in the housing 37, comes into contact with one pebbles 29.
It is necessary to remember that in the position shown in Fig. 1, the carriage 19 is not in its extreme left position, but is already on its way to the right side, that is to say to the store). The establishment of this circuit causes a new excitation of the electromagnet

62, thus putting the pads 69,70 in contact with their respective brushes, which has the effect of exciting the motor 20 and thus causing: the movement of the arms 10 towards the store.
When the arms 10 move towards the magazine 4, fingers 71 provided on hook arms pivotally mounted on the carriage 10 come into contact with stops 72 joined together by means of a connecting rod 73 and oscillating respectively about pivots 74, 75, this contacting having the effect of causing the hook arms to oscillate about their pivots 76, so that the opposite ends of these hook arms abut against the end 78 d 'a rod.
cam 79, which has the effect of pushing this rod back, against the pressure of a spring in order to lift, against the action of a spring, a pawl 80 subjected to the tension of this spring, to on the one hand, and to abandon a stop hook 61 'provided on the end of another stop lever 84, on the other hand, which allows the spring 83 to oscillate the stop lever 84 around the pivot 76 and to apply its arm 84 against a button 85 provided on the end of a shaft 86 carrying the jaw 8 intended to grip the disc or the like, so that the two jaws move so as to grip a disc or the like contained in the magazine 4, so that the various members pass from the position shown in FIG.
10 to that shown in Fig. 11 Preferably, the jaws 8 are provided with a spring shoe acting so as to adapt these jaws to the disks of different dimensions and to favor the abandonment of said disks When the carriage 19 arrives in in its extreme position, it abuts against a spring contact 91 interposed in the circuit of the electromagnet 62, which will have the effect of moving the switch forward by a notch, thus putting the pads 89, 90, in contact with their respective brushes in order to cause the motor to rotate in the opposite direction, after which the disc or the like is withdrawn from the magazine until the stopper 39 stops at

again against the roller 29 passing through the slot 138,
which will have the effect of exciting the electromagnet 62 again and of advancing the switch 58 by a notch, that is to say until the moment when the pads 92 are brought into contact with their brushes respective, thus causing the rotation in the opposite direction of the motor 12, which has the effect of raising the carriage to the level of the turntables, the motor 12 stopping as soon as a stud 93 disposed on the carriage 12 abuts against a spring contact 94, thus reestablishing the circuit of the electromagnet 62 and thus advancing the switch by a notch so as to put the pads 95 in contact with their respective brushes, which has the effect of exciting again the motor 20 so as to cause it to rotate forward and until the carriage 10 with its disc 11 is above the turntable 3,
in which position the end of the carriage 16 again abuts against the contact 91, thus again causing the excitation of the electromagnet 62 and the advancement of the switch 58 in order to put the pads 96 in contact with their brushes respective ones and reverse the direction of rotation of the motor 20.
However, when the carriage 10 comes to the end of its travel towards the platen 3, the other set of hook arms 82 will come into contact with the stops 72, since each time the pin 111 of the carriage 10 passes. in front of the cam wheel 97, the latter will be advanced by an eighth of a turn and thus the stops 72 will be placed in line sometimes with the hook arms 84, sometimes with the hook arms 71.
Since at this moment, the stop 72 abuts against the hook arms 84, these arms will oscillate around their pivots 76 until the moment when the hook 81 can engage below the pawl 80, the latch 82 being then removed by the fact that a stop 98 provided at the end of this lock
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
comes into contact with the face of the lever 84, after which the jaws 87 can abandon the recorded disc, under the tension of an elastic blade 99.
The carriage 10 then returns to its initial position, where it remains until the moment when the disc hearing is over, after which the acoustic arm (not shown), while engaging a cam (not shown) will put in contact two pads (not shown) interposed in the circuit of the electromagnet 62, which will have the effect of exciting the latter again and thus placing the pads 100 in contact with their respective brushes, with a view to to produce the advance of the carriage 10 until the moment when the jaws 8, 9 again grip the disc or the like disposed on the plate 3. The automatic raising and lowering of the acoustic arm does not form part of the present invention.
If then one wishes to make the upper face of the disc play, the switch 58 will be made to advance, so as to put the pads 101, 102, in contact with their respective brushes, which will have the effect not only of making the switch advance again. the jaw carrier 10 towards the rotating plate 3 but also to excite the electromagnet 103, which will cause the lifting of the plates 104 and will cause the latter to act on rollers 105 provided on the rods 86 of the jaws 8 , 9, which will have the effect of rotating these jaws of 1800 around their axis and thus turning the discs or the like.
We'll see. in Fig. 12 that certain groups of pads, located on segments 104, 105, 106 can be switched off *, depending on whether the contacts 56 and 57 are closed or not, which will cause or prevent the intervention of the plates 104 during the passage of the jaw holder 10, as appropriate.
Since the switch 58 automatically advances as the operation is completed, it follows that, in the event that only one side of the record or the like is played, the
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
additional movement in both directions of the jaw holder 10 becomes superfluous and consequently the pads which engage this movement will remain inactive thanks to the interruption of their circuits at 56 or 57, as may be the case.
However, this could prevent any subsequent rotation of the switch 58. To avoid this consequence, an auxiliary switch 107 is provided, comprising five pads 108 and five intermediate dead spaces, which allows it to establish a circuit through a brush 109 and 1. 'electromagnet 62, and thereby produce the advancement of the switch disc 58.
As seen in Fig. 13, it is preferable to provide elastic blades 110 which keep the disc 11 in friction and allow the latter to be removed by means of the jaws 8, 9.
