<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

DISC CHANGER DEVICE.
The present invention relates to disc changers and in particular to those with preselection of the genre comprising a disc magazine and a hearing head having the particular feature that it receives a rectilinear movement in front of this magazine and that by rotation, it can be brought into positions offset by 180 with respect to each other in order to allow the hearing of two sides of the discs contained in the magazine.
By hearing head is meant here all the elements necessary for the training and reproduction of phonographic records.
The invention relates more particularly to the rotary head and aims to provide means by which it is possible to control in a very simple and automatic manner the centering and the wedging of the disc on the disc holder plate and its release as well as the various movements of the pick-up arm at each reproduction, the latter being arranged in such a way that all its movements to ensure hearing occur while always occupying the same relative position on the head with respect to the plane of the plate disc holder.
This device is essentially distinguished in that the hearing head carries a control member which is constituted by a rocker able to oscillate about a vertical or substantially vertical axis and provided with means by which this tilting can be triggered alternately by or by cooperation with a member for guiding the disc to be played during its movement from the magazine to the hearing position and by the phonographic arm
In order to make the invention fully understood, an exemplary embodiment thereof given without limitation in its application to a preselection device will be described below, it being understood that the invention also extends to changers. discs without preselection.
FIG. 1 is a general view of the disc changer apparatus.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
FIG. 1A is a detail view intended to illustrate how the rotation of the hearing head can be carried out at the end of one or other of its rectilinear movements.
Figures 2,3 and are perspective views of the hearing head *
Figure 4A is a detail view
FIG. 5 represents the hearing head seen along one of the lateral sides of the hearing device.
Figures 6 to 10 are views intended to explain the operation of the head and more particularly that of the rocker arm.
The preselection disc changer apparatus represented by the drawings may be of the type described in Belgian patent No. 517.613 of February 12, 1953 and may comprise in main order:
1. A disc magazine of the kind described in Belgian patent No. 510.165 of March 24, 1952 and consisting of a removable unit 1 provided with slots for the discs 2 to be played and from which each disc can be extracted individually for the hearing without disturbing the classification having been carried out previously in general outside the hearing aid.
2. A hearing head 3 which is more particularly the subject of the present application, which can receive a movement of displacement rectilinear in front of the magazine 1 and which at the end of a movement in one direction or in the other can be rotated from 1800.
This rotation could possibly be done in any other intermediate position.
To this end, in the example shown, the plate 4 supporting this head is mounted on a vertical axis' + (fig. 2) which can move in a groove 6 (pin 1) formed in the plate. base 7 of the hearing device and which is integral with a plate 8 located under the plate 7 carrying two racks 9 and 10 (fig. 1A) capable of causing the rotation of a toothed wheel 11 wedged on the 'axis 5 when they abut against rods 12 occupying fixed positions.
3. A device for selective stopping of the carriage of the type described in Belgian patent 517.613 of February 12, 1953 and a table 15 occupying a vertical or slightly inclined position, on which the programs are indicated and in front of which can move a needle 16 of which movements are controlled by a single operating button 170
The rotating head comprises a disc holder 20 occupying a vertical position in such a way that, as explained in patent 517,613, a disc 2 which has been selected is brought into the hearing position by the cooperation of two arms, one of which 21 in the form of a rail pivots from the position shown in FIG. 1 to the horizontal one 211 of FIG. 5 while guiding the disc 2.
The plate 4 supports a plate 22 arranged vertically, the motor M and a fixed arm 23 serving as a lateral guide for the playing disc.
The plate 20 is provided with an automatic wedging device of the type described in Belgian patent 517.614 of February 12, 1953 in which the wedging is provided by spring pawls 24 housed in a ratchet holder 25 located in the center of the plate and in in which the pivoting of these pawls with a view to bringing them into the wedging position is controlled by the sliding of the pawl holder.
To this end, the axis 26 of the record player is extended towards the rear and carries a life 27 with two reverse pitches.
Above the engine M is mounted in a horizontal position on a vertical axis 28 a rocker arm 29 which carries fingers 30 and 31 bent towards
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the top and which can successively engage with screw 27.
This rocker arm also carries small arms 32-33 folded upwards on which pawls 36-37 can pivot around axes 34-35.
On a horizontal axis 38 carried by the plate 22 is mounted an elbow lever 39, one branch of which carries a rod 40 while the other is extended by a wire 41.
On the side of the hearing head, a lever 42 can pivot at 43 which ends upwards with a small disc 44 by which it can rest on the screw 27. At its other end, it carries a ga- let 45 acting on a rod 46 which can slide in a fixed part 47.
This rod bends upwards at each of its ends to form a branch 48 extending by a wire 49 capable of acting on the pawl 36 and a branch 50 terminating in a hook 51 taking under the hearing arm 52 and carrying a axle end 53 which can act on the side of arm 52 (figo 4A)
The operation of the device is as follows
A disc 2 having been selected, the head stops in front of it as described in Belgian patent 517.613 and shown in figure 1. The arm 21 is lowered into position 211 of figure 5 so as to guide the disc and bring it to the hearing position during which it occupies a vertical position.
In its movement towards the hearing position, the arm 21 presses on the finger 40 in order to pivot the elbow lever 39, the wire 41 of which acts on the pawl 37 to bring it into the path of a cam C formed at the inside of tray 20.
At this time, the axis 26 is rotating and the cam C is driven in this movement; under the action of the cam, the rocker arm 29 is set in oscillation around the axis 28 by being helped by a small spring 55, which has the effect of engaging the tooth 31 (pin 6) in the screw 27 As a result, the axis 26 while continuing to rotate moves to the right until finally occupying the position 271 of FIG. 7 and causing the displacement of the ratchet holder 25 and the exit of the claws 24 (FIG. ) which center disc 2 in hearing position.
By moving from position 27 to position 271, screw 27 allows lever 42 to swing; the rod 46-48-50 no longer being retained by the roller 45, can slide to the left under the effect of the spring 58 which allows the phonographic arm 52 to be brought into the hearing position which is that shown in solid lines in Figure 9.
The hearing can then begin.
During the hearing, the arm 52 drives in its movement of rotation towards the center of the disc the rod 46 - 48 - 50 and that by the end of the axle 53; the wire 49 gradually approaches the pawl 36 which came to be placed near the cam C when the rocker arm was tilted.
At the end of the hearing, the arm 52 causes, via the wire 49, the tilting of the pawl 36 (fig.7) which is placed in the path of the cam c. The latter being in rotation, it acts on the pawl 36, causing the rocker arm 29 to tilt so as to bring it back to the position of FIG. 6, being aided by the spring 55.
As a result of the tilting of the rocker arm, the screw 27 is engaged with the tooth 30 and moves in the opposite direction of the arrow F (fig. 7) to be finally returned to the position of figure 6. The claws 24 are returned to their retracted position and the pawl holder moved to the left (figo 7) in order to release the disc 2 which is then returned to the magazine 1. At the end of its travel, the finger 30 maintains the screw 27 in its rear position (fig. 6)
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
In its backward movement, the screw 27 drives the lever 42 which oscillates at 43 and pushes back by its roller 45 the rod 46-48-50 against the action of the spring 58 and the hook 51 raises the arm 52.
As shown in Figure 10, during its sliding movement along arrow Fl the branch 50 slides against a part 60 carrying an inclined part 61 which intervenes so as to rotate the branch 50 and therefore the entire part 46-48-50 to move the phonographic arm 52 away by the end of the shaft 53 towards its initial position for the start of hearing, the position in which it is retained by the hook 51.
An electromagnet 62 can be provided which is excited by the operation of a button (not shown) and which attracts the rod 46 in order to manually cause the latter to stop and the return of the rod during hearing. disc in magazine 1.
