UN MAGASIN DE DISQUES ET#DE#LECTEURSDE DISQUES, EQUIPES
D'UN TEL ROBOT.ROBOT CHANGER OF VIDEO DISCS AND ASSEMBLIES INCLUDING
A DISC STORE AND # OF # DISC PLAYERS, TEAMS
OF SUCH A ROBOT.
The invention relates firstly to a robot intended to carry out disc changes, in particular video discs. The invention can also be applied to the change of discs carrying sound recordings. It aims to achieve such a device which is both an original design and a simple structure.
To this end, the robot according to the invention comprises: a straight guide; a carriage movable along this guide; a console mounted on the carriage pivoting about an axis parallel to said straight guide; a flat section arm mounted, by its proximal end, on the console, pivoting about a longitudinal axis orthogonal to the pivot axis of the console on the carriage; a device for gripping a disc, carried by the distal end of said arm; and means for controlling movement of the carriage on the guide, pivoting of the console on the carriage and pivoting of the arm on the console, adapted to be placed under the control of a programmer.
The invention also relates to assemblies comprising a record store, in particular of video discs, arranged coaxially and of disc players with drawers superposed on each other, said sets being equipped with a robot as defined above, the guide of which rectilinear is a vertical amount located next to the stack of drawers in the vicinity of the vertical geometric plane which contains the front face of said drawers in the closed position, in such a way that the robot's gripping device can grasp or deposit a disc in the drawer of any of the readers and any location in the store.
Thus, this same robot can be used in combination with disc players and record stores which can be of various structures (for example with horizontal or vertical storage) and associated with the players in various ways (for example next to them- above or above them).

- Figure 9 is a view similar to that of Figure 8, but with the gripping fingers in the active output position.
If we refer first to Figures 1 and 2, we can see an assembly consisting of a magazine 1 of sound and / or image recording discs, a cabinet 2 of players of such discs, and a robot 3 capable of grasping, or depositing, a disk in any of the readers 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d (four in number overall) of the reader unit 2, or in any of the cells from store 1.
In this example, the magazine 1 is of the type with vertical storage of the disks 4 coaxially along a horizontal geometric axis 5, between retaining cleats 7, 8, 9 carried by a carriage 12 movable on horizontal rails 13, 14 parallel to the geometrical axis 5 of the magazine, under the action of suitable conventional control means constituted, in this example, by a toothed belt 15 of which one strand is fixed, at 16, to the carriage 12 and which passes, on the one hand, over a mad pulley 17 and, on the other hand, on a drive pulley 18 entered by a motor 19 adapted to be placed under the control of a programmer (not shown).
The cabinet 2 of readers 2a to 2d is equipped with drawers 21, 22, 23, 24 which open automatically when a disk 4 has to be placed in a reader or removed from a reader. Note that the open drawers 22 for example, Figure 2) do not fully discover the location of a disc, so that, to put a disc in place in a drawer and to remove it, we must start with it give some tilt forward and up.
In the example, the disc magazine 1 is arranged on one side of the reader cabinet 2, with its axis 5 parallel to a lateral face 26 of said cabinet. The robot 3 is located on the same side of the reader unit 2, in the vicinity of the vertical geometric plane (50) which contains the front face of the drawers in the closed position.
It comprises a rectilinear guide which, in the general arrangement of this example, is a vertical upright 31 (see also FIG. 3 on a larger scale), a carriage 32 movable along this upright, a console 33 mounted on the carriage 32 pivoting about an axis 34 parallel to the upright, that is to say here vertical, an arm 35 of flat section so as to be able to be introduced between two consecutive discs of the magazine, and mounted, by its proximal end, on the console 33, pivoting about an axis 36 orthogonal to the axis 34 of pivoting of the console 33 on the carriage 32, that is to say horizontal in the present example; a device 38 for gripping a disc carried by the distal end of the arm 35 and constituted here by a simple suction cup connected to a conduit 41 of the arm, terminated by a rotary joint 42 centered on the pivot axis of the arm and to which a vacuum line can be connected 43.
The movements of the carriage 32 along the upright 31 are ensured by any suitable conventional means, for example as shown in FIG. 1, by a toothed belt 45 of which one strand is fixed, at 46, to the carriage and which passes, of a on the one hand, on a loose pulley 47 at the top of the upright 31 and, on the other hand, on a drive pulley 48 driven by a motor 49 located at the base of the upright and adapted to be placed also under the control of the programmer. the example shown, the pivoting movements of the console 33 on the carriage 32 are provided by a motor 51 which drives a toothed belt 52 passing over a pulley 53 connected to the motor and over a pulley 54 connected to the console; in an analogous manner, the pivoting movements of the arm 35 on the console 33 are provided by a motor 56 which drives a toothed belt 57 passing over a pulley 58 connected to the motor and over a pulley 59 connected to the arm; the two motors 51 and 56 are also placed under the control of the programmer.
The operation of the assembly shown in Figures 1 to 3 is as follows
It is assumed, for example, that the reader 2b is currently in operation; the robot carriage 32 is, on standby, at this reader, while the arm 35 is directed forward.
The reading is now finished and it is a question of removing the disc which is in the reader in question and replacing it with another currently in the magazine 1. For this, after the programmer has ensured the automatic opening of the drawer 22 of the reader, as shown in FIG. 2, the control means described above ensure the following sequences pivoting of the console 33 on its vertical axis 34 to bring the arm 35 above the disc 4 resting on the open drawer 22 ; lowering of the carriage 32 to bring the suction cup 38 into contact with the upper face of the disc 4; sending the vacuum in the suction cup 38; combined movement of slight rise of the robot carriage 32 and pivoting of the arm 35 on its horizontal axis 36 as well as a pivoting of the console 33 on its vertical axis 34, in order to release the disc from the drawer by first lifting it by the front since the entire disc is not exposed by the opening of the drawer 22; pivoting of the console 33 and mounting of the carriage 32 of the robot to bring the disc gripped by the arm above the magazine 1; displacement of the carriage 12 from the magazine to bring, just below the loaded arm, the cell of said magazine intended to receive the disc to be stored; lowering of the robot carriage 32 for depositing the disc in the magazine; and stop the vacuum in the pipe 43 for controlling the suction cup 38 to release the disc. A series of sequences are then executed, in reverse, to grab the desired disc in the magazine and place it in the open drawer 22 (or possibly, in another drawer) of the reader unit; these are, briefly: lifting the robot to release the arm between the discs of the magazine, sliding the magazine to bring the desired disc under the arm, lowering the robot, placing the vacuum in vacuum and gripping the disc, raising the robot , pivoting of the console to bring the arm above the open drawer concerned and reverse combined movements to deposit the disc on said drawer, cessation of vacuum with the suction cup and expensive disc, lifting of the arm and its pivoting towards forward in waiting position; closing the drawer and reading it when the time comes. A complete cycle of disc exchange has just been carried out.
In FIGS. 4 and 5, where the same reference numerals have been used to designate the same members, another embodiment has been represented which differs from that represented in FIGS. 1 and 2 essentially by the fact that the magazine 1 is horizontally stored discs instead of being vertically stored and its vertical axis is substantially in the front geometric plane 60 containing the center of a disc presented by a tray 22 open player.
The same robot 3 is used. In this case, the magazine does not need to be mounted on a horizontally sliding carriage, the selection of the disks is done by vertical movements of the robot in the same way as the selection of the readers. The removal of a disc from the magazine or its installation is essentially done by a horizontal pivoting movement of the robot arm.
The two arrangements described above are preferably suitable for assemblies which include a relatively large number of disc players (only four of them have been shown in the drawings).
For assemblies which would include only one reader or a small number of readers, for example two, one could envisage an arrangement of the kind of that represented in FIG. 6 where the record store, 1 is placed above the cabinet of readers 2, always using the same robot 3.
It will be noted that, in all cases, the robot also allows the reversal of a disc, since its arm 35 is able to pivot on itself around its longitudinal axis 36.
Furthermore, in the embodiments described above, it has been assumed that the means for gripping the discs were pneumatic means, in this case a suction cup 38. As a variant, FIG. 7 shows a arm 35 provided with mechanical gripping means. Two fingers 61 (see also FIGS. 8 and 9) in the form of hooks are fixed respectively on the distal end of two rods 62 pivotally mounted longitudinally in arm 35, while the proximal ends of said arms rods are connected to the shaft of a motor 65 (carried by the console), via a reduction gear train shown in Figure 7 in a simplified manner in the form of two toothed wheels 66 respectively integral with the two rods 62 and engaged with each other, as well as a toothed wheel 67 integral with one of the two wheels 66 and a pinion 68 which is fixed on the motor shaft 65 and which is engaged with the wheel 67 .
The operation of this mechanical gripping device is as follows
The two gripping fingers 61 can occupy, selectively, either an inactive position (FIG. 8) in which they are practically not projecting relative to the flat section of the arm 35, so as not to hinder the introduction of said arm between two discs 4 stored in a magazine, that is to say an active position (FIG. 9) in which they are capable of gripping a disc 4 by clamping against two diametrically opposite points of the bore 69 of a disc 4. The same motor 65 is used to controlling, at the same time, the pivoting of the two gripping fingers 61 so as to make them pass simultaneously from one to the other of their two aforementioned positions, and the pivoting of the arm 35 around its longitudinal axis 36. Thin devices electric and / or mechanical strokes, depending on the type of motor used, ensure the precise positioning of the gripping fingers of the discs in each of their two positions where they are held without the need to provide mo yen for this purpose, thanks to the irreversibility of the speed reducer interposed between said fingers and the motor 65.
