<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

PRESET DISC CHANGER MECHANISM.
The present invention relates to a preselection disc changer mechanism.
Its main aim is to create an apparatus of particularly simple design, both from the point of view of handling by the user and of carrying out the operations for bringing the selected disc or discs into the addition position.
It is also intended to allow a particularly advantageous use. magazines or chargers preferably removable and interchangeable according to Belgian patent No 510.165 of March 24, 1952 from which each disc can be extracted individually for audition without disturbing the class, having been carried out beforehand and thus allowing use domestic use of this type of appliance thanks to the reduced price and operational safety.
The mechanism, object of the invention, is characterized essentially in that it comprises on a base plate a disc magazine, a carriage receiving a reciprocating rectilinear movement in front of this magazine, a series of members capable of causing stopping the carriage in different positions, a table on which the programs are indicated and in front of which can move a needle or other indicator member 'must be secured to an element which by its actuation causes the bringing into the active position of 'one of the stopping devices of the truck.
A feature which the applicant intends to protect, even in a manner independent from that defined in the previous paragraph, is that the reciprocating translational movement carriage is provided with a head capable of being rotated. 1800 this rotation can be controlled for example by rods against which can come up against at the end of rectilinear movement two racks carried by the carriage and acting on a toothed wheel wedged on the axis of rotation.

On the attached drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the entire apparatus.
Figure 2 is a corresponding plan view.
Figure 3 is a section through line III in Figure 2.
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the device for selectively stopping the carriage and rotating the head with which it is provided, this device being seen from below.
Figure 5 is another perspective view of this device.
Figures 6, 7 and 8 are detail views.
Figures 9 and 10 are intended to show a carriage stopping device in cooperation with the selective stopping members.
The apparatus comprises in main order on a base plate 1 a disc magazine 2 preferably constituted by a removable block provided with slots receiving the discs 3 to be played and a carriage 4 comprising a lower part 5 located under the plate 1 and receiving a reciprocating rectilinear displacement movement by means of a worm 6 controlled by a motor (not shown) and above this plate a head 7 provided with an axis 8 by which it can turn on part 5.
In front of a table 9 which in the example shown is arranged obliquely or vertically and on which are indicated the titles of the discs contained in the magazine and in the same order can move a needle 10 fixed by a block 22 on a chain 11 passing over pinions 12 and driven by a drive wheel 13 set in motion by an axis 14 provided with an operating button 15.
According to the invention, there is provided on the base plate 1 a device for stopping the carriage at a location corresponding to the location of each disc in the magazine (fig. 4 and 5) and formed by a bar 16 provided. slots 17 in which can pivot parts 18 formed of a body and two teeth 19-20 constituting a fork.
Each of the parts 18 serves to stop the carriage in the chosen position and can for this purpose pivot under the action of a movable finger 21 carried by a block 22 to which the needle 10 is secured and therefore sliding with the latter the along two fixed guides 23 and 24.
This finger 21 is put into oscillation by the intervention of a plate 25 (Fig. 2, 3 and 4) which can slide on the base plate 1 while being guided by slots 26 (Fig. 2) and provided with a longitudinal groove 27 in which the finger 21 engages. One of the faces of the groove 27 is provided with teeth 28 making it possible to fix with exactitude the location of the finger 21 opposite the part 18 corresponding to the disc to be played.
The sliding of the plate 25 is controlled by a reciprocating button 29 which can be housed in the button 15.
This button acts on a contact 30 (FIG. 2) closing a circuit 31 comprising an electromagnet 32 whose armature 33 acts on a button 34 carried by a bar 35 connected to the plate 27.
The pivoting of the finger 21 has the effect of causing that of the part 18 located opposite this finger (FIG. 4).
When the finger 21 acts on a part 18, this part passes from the position of figure 6 to that of figure 7 and the tooth 20 is stopped by a fixed bar 36 on which the end of a spring 37 rests. with which each piece 18 is provided and now the latter in one of the extreme positions.
As soon as a part 18 has been put into oscillation, the tooth 19 causes a frame comprising a horizontal bar 38 and end rods 39 (fig. 5) rotating in supports 40 to oscillate.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
One of the rods 39 extends so as to act on a switch 41 in order to close the circuit 42 of the main motor (not shown) actuating the worm 6 (FIG. 5).
Under the action of this motor, the carriage 5-7 moves along the worm 6 until it meets the part 18 occupying the position 181 shown in Figures 4 and 5.
At this time, the disc should be brought from the magazine to the hearing position.
For this purpose, part 5 of the carriage is extended by a plate
44 (fig. 3) provided with two slots 45-46 in one of which can oscillate an arm 47 acting on the disc 3. In the other slot can pivot a guide arm 48.
Each arm 47-48 (FIG. 3) is extended downwards by Aune sa% - link 50 and these two projections are connected by a rod 51 on which lies a cam 52 controlled by the main driving part of the mechanism.
Means are provided to determine the rotation of 180 of the part 7 at the end of the movement of the carriage 5-7 and these means can be constituted by two racks 61 (fig. 4 and 5) carried by the part 5 and acting on a wheel. toothed 62 wedged on the axis of rotation 8. This rotation is triggered by rods 63 against which the racks abut (FIG. 5).
To determine the stopping of the carriage, the non-rotating lower part 5 carries a plate 53 (fig. 3.9-la) on which can oscillate about an axis 54 a rocker arm 55 carrying a finger 56 which normally protrudes from it. at the edge of the plate 53 and which can thus come into the field of action of a stud 57 forming part of a part 18 having been pushed by the finger 21.
The rocker arm 55 is carried by a lever 58 oscillating around a pivot 59 and able to act on a switch 60 closing the circuit of an electromagnet (not shown) causing the disengagement of the screw 6.
When the finger 56 meets the stud 57 the assembly constitutes the rocker arm 55 and the lever 58 pivots by closing 1-switch.
To allow the actuation of the switch 60 regardless of the direction of movement of the carriage, the rocker arm 55 carries a second finger 64 placed in the active position by a stud 66 which at the end of the stroke abuts against a fixed finger 65 (fig. . 9 and la) and causes the rocker arm to rotate around the axis 64.
When the carriage touches with the finger 56 or 64 an element 18 placed in the off position, the switch 60 is placed in the closed position, which causes the carriage to stop by disengaging the worm 6. - 'Both, the coupling is designed so as to engage at the same time the cam 52 which as explained triggers the displacement mechanism of the disc. It should be noted that if we consider two successive parts 18, one carries a stud in a position 57 and the other in a position 571 (fig. 6 and 7) located at a lower level, these levels corresponding to levels occupied by the fingers 56 or 64 and at the hearing of either side of the disc.
In this way, it is ensured that the carriage stops in the same position regardless of the side to be played on the same disc.
To return the part 18 to the rest position, a rod 70 (fig.
9) in conjunction with the rod 51 rotates at 72 a lever 71 acting by means of a part 73 on the lever 58; therefore the rocker arm 55 by participating in the movement of the lever 58 exerts pressure on the part 18 by means of the pins 57 or 571.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
To bring the disc back into the magazine after hearing, it suffices to put in motion the cam 52 which had been stopped after a half-rotation and which in the second half-rotation must act to bring back, the arms 47 and 48 in the position primitive.
FIG. 8 shows an arrangement by which a special rod 75 provided over its entire length with a tongue 76 enables all the parts 18 to be brought into the hearing position or into the rest position in order to allow either to induce a hearing of all the recordings made up of the two sides of each of the discs, or to cancel all the selections already made.
CLAIMS. l.- Preselection disc changer mechanism, characterized in that it comprises on a base plate (1) a disc magazine (2), a carriage (4) receiving a reciprocating rectilinear movement in front of this magazine, a series of members capable of causing the carriage to stop in different positions, a table (9) on which the programs are indicated and in front of which can move a needle (10) or 'another indicator member which is attached to an element which by its activation causes the bringing into the active position of one of the stopping members of the carriage.
