"PERFECTIONNEMENTS AU TRAITEMENT DE MATIERES
CONSTITUEES PAR OU CONTENANT DES DERIVES
CHLLULOSIQUES".
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

"IMPROVEMENTS IN THE TREATMENT OF MATERIALS
CONSTITUTED BY OR CONTAINING DERIVATIVES
CHLLULOSICS ".
This invention relates to the dyeing, printing and sanding of threads, yarns, textile products, - woven or knitted - or other products made of, or containing cellulose acetate or other products. esters of an organic acid of cellulose, such as for example the formate propionate or butyrate of cellulose or the products obtained by the treatment of alkalized cellulose with aulfochlorides (for example the product called "immune ooton" obtained by the treatment with p-toluene sulfochloride), or consisting of, or containing, cellulose ethers.
such as for example methyl celluloses,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
ethyl or benzyl, or the corresponding condensation products of cellulose and glycols or other polyvalent alcohols, all cellulose derivatives which will be called hereinafter "derivatives of organic substitution of cellulose.
According to the invention, materials consisting of, or containing, cellulose acetate or other of the above organically substituted cellulose derivatives are colored or otherwise colored by dyes of the azo class, and especially the dyes. unsulphonated of this class, which are derived from aminonaphthols, naphthylene diamines or their substitution products in the nucleus
The dyes for application according to the present invention can be part of any desired series.
Thus, for example, monoazo dyes can be obtained by coupling a suitable diazo body of the benzene or naphthalene series with an aminonaphthol in acid or alkaline solution or with a naphthylene diamine or by diazotizing an aminonaphthol, a naphthylene. d-iamine or a monoacidyl-naphthylene-diamins and by coupling with an extreme component, for example from the benzene or naphthalene series, or with the same or another aminonaphthol (in acid or alkaline solution), or the same or a other naphthylena-diamine, and these dyes can, if desired, then be diazotized onto the fiber and developed with a suitable developer.
Disazo dyes can be obtained by tetrazing a suitable diamine, for example benzidine, tolaidine, dianisidine, diaminostilbene, diaminodiphenylmetbane, etc., and coupling with two molecules of an aminonaphthol or a naphthylene- diamine

by coupling a molecular proportion of a suitable diazotized amine with an aminonaphthol in acidic solution then making the solution alkaline and coupling this solution with another molecular proportion of the same or another diazotized amine:
if desired the first coupling can be carried out in acidic solution and the second in alkaline solution. Secondary disazo dyes can be obtained, for example, by diazotizing a suitable aminoazo compound such as, for example, benzene.
EMI3.3
azo-K, npphtylamip, aminoazobenzene or their derivatives of nucleation in the nucleus, or by diazotizing an amino group of a diaminoazo compound, such as for example -, diaminoazobenzene or 4waminobenaene1azo4 phthaln and coupling the resulting cliazo compound with an aminonaphthol or a naphthylene diamine or by diazotizing a suitable amine, coupling with an aminonaphthol or a monoacidyl-naphthylene-aliamine, diazotizing the resulting compound and coupling with the same or one,
other suitable co-coupling component * Disazo dyes can,

when they contain diazotizable amino groups, be di.azated to the material and expanded.
The preceding examples of the processes applied to constitute the dyes and of the different series of dyes which can be applied according to the present invention have of course been indicated only for the purpose of understanding the invention and do not limit the latter in any way.

way*
When nitroamines, such as p-nitraniline, or monoacidyl-diamines, such as p-amino-ketaniline or p-amino-phenyloxamic acid, have been employed in the preparation of the dyes, one can reduce or hydrolyze, as appropriate, nitro or acidyl-amino groups, the resulting compounds being particular ...
Many of the dyes, and particularly those containing only a single azo group attached to the naphthalene nucleus of the aminonaphthol or of the naphthylene diamine, can be developed on the diazotization and development on the fiber. the fiber with a suitable diazo body
It has been found that the dyes obtained with the aid of aminonaphthols and their substitution derivatives in the ring by coupling them in the ortho or peri position to the auxochromic groups, and especially those of 1-amino-8-naphthol, give dyes. particularly useful.
If the dyestuffs are soluble or sufficiently in a neutral solution, in a slightly alkaline solution or in a mild solution, they may be applied sparingly by means of such aqueous solution with or without the addition of a dispersing agent, and if they are insoluble or only slightly soluble in water, they can be applied by means of water dispersions obtained by any of the methods known in the art of colloids, for example by the pre-treatment of dyes with solubilizing agents such as those described
