Abstract
La invención provee moléculas de ácidos nucleicos aislados que codifican enzimas piruvato descarboxilasa que tienen actividad de descarboxilasa, afinidad con el sustrato, termoestabilidad y actividad a diferentes pH mejoradas. Los ácidos nucleicos de la invención también tienen un uso de codon que permite la alta expresión en una variedad de células huéspedes. Por consiguiente, la invención provee vectores de expresión recombinantes que contienen tales moléculas de ácidos nucleicos, células huéspedes recombinantes que comprenden los vectores de expresión, células huéspedes que comprenden otras enzimas etanológenas, y métodos para producir sustancias útiles, por ejemplo, acetaldehído y etanol utilizando tales células huéspedes.
