Abstract

En una pila electroquímica con circulacion de aire metálica, se reduce oxígeno en el cátodo, y un metal se oxida en el ánodo. El oxígeno es suministrado alcátodo desde el aire atmosférico externo a la pila a través de uno o varios conductores de acce so de aire en la carcasa. Una batería electroquímica concirculacion de aire metálica puede ser armada insertando un cátodo, un separador, y un ánodo en una carcasa de batería. Luego se sella el extremo de lacarcasa. Durante el proceso de sellado, deb e aplicarse fuerza a la carcasa para sellar el extremo. Si esta fuerza es transferida al cátodo, éste puededeformarse. Cuando esto ocurre, el electrolito en algunos casos puede fugarse de la pila. Un método de sellado de un extremo de una carcasa de batería quecomprende: (a) proveer una pluralidad de soportes en una pared de la carcasa hacia el extremo de la carcasa; (b) marcar la pared de la carcasa en una posicionentre el extremo de la carcasa y los soportes; (c) insertar un conjunto superior en la carcasa de manera que se ponga en contacto con los soportes; y (d)plegar un borde de la carcasa sobre el conjunto superior. Una batería metálica con circulacion de aire que posee un extremo positivo y un extremo negativo yque comprende: (a) una carcasa que presenta una pluralidad de rejillas; (b) un ánodo; (c) un cátodo; (d) un separador entre el ánodo y el cátodo; y (e) unconjunto superior en contacto con una pluralidad de soportes en una pared de la carcasa.
