Abstract
Las baterías son comunmente utilizadas como fuente de energía eléctrica. Una batería contiene un electrodo negativo, típicamente llamado ánodo, y unelectrodo positivo, típicamente llamado cátodo. A los efectos de evitar la reaccion directa delmateri al del ánodo y del material del cátodo, el ánodo y elcátodo se encuentran eléctricamente aislados entre sí por medio de una capa tipo lámina o separador. Cuando una batería es utilizada como fuente de energíaeléctrica en un dispositivo, comopor ejem plo en un teléfono celular, se establece un contacto eléctrico con el ánodo y el cátodo, permitiendo que loselectrones fluyan a través del dispositivo y la respectivas reacciones de oxidacion y reduccion a fin de liberar energía eléctrica.En una pil a electroquímicacon circulacion de aire metálica, se reduce oxígeno en el cátodo, y un metal se oxida en el ánodo. El oxígeno es suministrado al cátodo desde el aireatmosférico externo a la pila a través de uno o varios conductos deacceso de aire en la carcasa. Un sistema administrador de aire mejora la vida enalmacenamiento activada de un sistema de batería metálica con circulacion de aire controlando el flujo de aire, que incluye oxígeno, dioxido de carbono, y aguahacia elinterior y el exter ior del sistema. Durante los períodos de uso de la batería, un generador de desplazamiento de aire, como por ejemplo un ventilador,desplaza el aire hacia el interior y el exterior del sistema a los efectos de garantizar un buenrendimiento. La distri bucion del flujo de aire a través de lassuperficies activas de las pilas puede ser despareja. Un flujo de aire desparejo puede provocar puntos calientes en la batería, donde el ánodo y el cátodoreaccionan más que en otrasáreas de la misma. Los punto s calientes pueden conducir a un rendimiento inconsistente de la batería e impedir el desarrollo detoda su capacidad. Se revela un sistema administrador de aire para un pila metálica con circulacion de aire. El sistemaincluye: (a) una carcasa (2,4) queposee un generador de desplazamiento de aire (30) y una abertura de salida de aire, y (b) un cartucho que puede desmontarse de la carcasa.
