Abstract

Se trata de polímeros aromáticos de monovinilideno modificado con caucho, con una distribucion bimodal del tamano de las partículas de caucho, quecomprenden: a) partículas de caucho en un caucho de baja viscosidad, en estrella o ramificadocon partículas de tamano promedio en volumen de 0,1 a 0,5micrones, y morfología celular de nucleo/coraza o mezclas de las mismas, y b) partículas de caucho, de caucho estrellado o ramificado de baja viscosidad,caucho de dieno lineal o caucho depol ímeros de bloques con partículas de tamano promedio en volumen de 1,5 a 10 micrones, donde las partículas de cauchode b) son más densas que las partículas de caucho de a) y poseen un contenido menor de polímeros aromáticos demonovilideno ocl uido que las partículas de a)y las partículas de a) forman el 50 al 99% en peso del contenido total de caucho de dieno. También se revela un procedimiento que comprende (A)polimerizar una mezcla de polimerizacion (1) quecomprende monomero arom ático de vinilo y caucho estrellado o ramificado de baja viscosidad y disuelto en unprimer reactor, de manera que las partículas de caucho con un tamano de partícula promedio en volumen de 0,1 a 2 micrones y unamorfología celular o denucle o o mezcla de las mismas y un contenido de polímero aromático de monovinilindeno ocluido con respecto al caucho de 3,1 a 6, en una matriz depolímero parcialmente polimerizado, (B) mezclar el producto de (A)con una mezcla de polimeriz acion (2) que comprende monomero aromático de vinilo ycaucho estrellado o ramificado disuelto y de baja viscosidad, caucho de dieno lineal o caucho de copolímero de bloque, en condiciones tales que lamezclaresultante tiene un contenido de solidos de por lo menos 4 veces el contenido de caucho total de la mezcla, y las partículas densas y grandes son producidas
