Abstract

El carbonato de calcio precipitado de aragonita en granos finos se produce en escala comercial mediente siembra con carbonato de calcio precipitado dearagonita en granos gruesos. El material de siembra en granos gruesos se produce mediente lainterrupcion, luego de la produccion de 0,1 a 0,6g./l.minde carbonato de calcio, del suminstro de dioxido de carbono a la suspension de cal viva en forma temprana en la reaccion para permitir una posteriornucleacion de los cristales y luego continuar el suministro de dioxido de carbono a una velocidad de reaccion de 0,1 g./l.min. a 0,6 g./l.min. Estematerial de siembra en granos gruesos tiene un área de superficie de Blaine que puede ser menor de 30.000 cm2/g., cuyos solidos son de 35 a70 por ciento enpeso de aragonita, y este material se agrega a los lotes subsiguientes como suspension de aproximadamente 1 por ciento en peso, basado en el peso total dela suspension del material a sembrar. Para los lotes sembrados, lacarbonatacion se realiza a una velocidad de reaccion de hasta 1,8 g/l. min. enla escala comercial, dando como resultado un producto de aragonita en granos finos. Este producto final sembrado no necesita estar molido, tiene solidos enlos cualesel porcentaje en peso de aragonita es mayor de 90, tiene el tamano medio de partículas entre 0,30 a 0,5 micrones, una distribucion de tamano departículas donde aproximadamente de 60 a 70 por ciento es menos de 0,5 micrones del diámetro esférico equivalente y un área de superficie de Blaine que puedeser mayor de 35.000 cm2/g.
