Definitions
- the present invention relates to a tape reel.
- Tape reels are used as core materials around which carrier tape containing a large number of components is wound.
- Patent Document 1 discloses a feeder that feeds and moves carrier tape unwound from a tape reel. Tape reels come in several types with different flange widths and diameters to accommodate carrier tapes with different widths, thicknesses, cavity shapes, etc. for various components.
- Feeders may have a set upper limit on the diameter of the tape reel that can be used. Also, a single carrier tape may be divided so that multiple feeders can simultaneously supply the same type of components. In such cases, the carrier tape wound on a specific tape reel is rewound onto another tape reel. In this case, depending on the method of connecting the end of the carrier tape to the tape reel and the type of carrier tape, a load may be placed on the carrier tape, which could result in external force being applied to components housed near the connection site.
- the purpose of this specification is to provide a tape reel that reduces the load on the carrier tape being wound and prevents external forces from being applied to components during the winding process.
- a tape reel comprising a shaft portion having a cylindrical outer peripheral surface, a pair of flange portions provided on both ends of the shaft portion, a string that is unwound from the outer peripheral surface of the shaft portion, and a connecting portion that detachably connects the string and carrier tape.
- the wound carrier tape is connected to the shaft via the string, reducing the load on the carrier tape. This prevents deformation of the carrier tape and prevents external forces from being applied to the components housed within.
- FIG. 2 is a side view showing the appearance of a feeder that accommodates tape reels.
- FIG. 2 is a perspective view showing a part of the carrier tape.
- 10A to 10C are diagrams illustrating a procedure for dividing a carrier tape.
- 10 is an enlarged side view showing a state in which a carrier tape is wound around a tape reel that does not have a holding unit.
- FIG. 10 is an enlarged side view showing a state in which a carrier tape is wound around a tape reel having a holding unit.
- FIG. FIG. 2 is a perspective view showing a first embodiment of a connecting portion.
- FIG. 10 is a perspective view showing a second embodiment of the connection portion.
- FIG. 10 is a perspective view showing a third embodiment of the connection portion.
- FIG. 10 is a perspective view showing a fourth embodiment of the connection portion.
- FIG. 10 is an enlarged side view showing the holding unit with the string wound thereon.

- the "tape reel” may also be simply referred to as a "reel.”
- feeder 20 is a tape feeder that performs a supply operation to supply components by feeding and moving carrier tape 60.
- the feeder 20 includes a feeder body 21.
- the feeder body 21 is formed in a flat box shape.
- the feeder body 21 is configured to be able to supply components to a component supply position Ps located at the upper downstream side in the transport direction of the carrier tape 60.

- the tape transport path 211 is formed in a rectangular cylindrical shape using, for example, a bottom plate, two side plates, and a ceiling plate.
- the tape transport path 211 may also have a tape presser that presses the carrier tape 60 against the bottom plate.
- the tape transport path 211 may also have a portion of its cylindrical shape omitted.
- the tape transport path 211 starts at a position close to the reel 30, extends diagonally upward in the downstream direction, and then extends roughly horizontally in the downstream direction from halfway, ending at the top of the downstream end of the feeder main body 21.
- a position close to the end of the tape transport path 211 is the component supply position Ps.
- the feeder main body 21 is mounted on the feeder holder 11 of the component mounting machine 10. When mounted on the feeder holder 11, the feeder 20 is supplied with power and is connected to be able to communicate with the control device of the component mounting machine 10.
- the feeder 20 is equipped with a drive unit 23 that feeds and moves the carrier tape 60 during component supply operations.
- the drive unit 23 has a sprocket 231 rotatably supported on the feeder body 21.
- the teeth of the sprocket 231 protrude from grooves formed in the bottom plate of the tape transport path 211 and engage with feed holes 66 formed at predetermined intervals in the carrier tape 60.
- the drive unit 23 has an electric motor 232 that generates driving force that is transmitted to the sprocket 231 via a not-shown reducer.
- the motor 232 is capable of intermittent and continuous operation, and can be switched between forward and reverse rotation.
- the drive unit 23 rotates the sprocket 231 using the motor 232 to feed and move the carrier tape 60.
- the feeder 20 is equipped with a tape guide 24.
- the tape guide 24 is detachably mounted on the top of the feeder body 21.
- the tape guide 24 peels one widthwise end of the base tape 61 from the base tape 61 that constitutes the carrier tape 60, opening cavities 65 that individually accommodate components.
- the opened cavities 65 are transported to the component supply position Ps, exposing the accommodated components so that they can be picked up.
- the base tape 61 is then discharged below the feeder 20, along with the base tape 61 that has passed above the tape guide 24.
- the feeder 20 includes a reel holding section 22.
- the reel holding section 22 holds a reel 30 around which a carrier tape 60 is wound, in a replaceable manner.
- the reel holding section 22 rotatably holds the outer edge or center of the reel 30.
- the reel holding section 22 prevents the reel 30 from slipping out of position by using an openable and closable holding cover.
- the carrier tape 60 is a tape that accommodates multiple components 69.
- the components 69 are components to be mounted on a substrate, and range from very small components such as 0201 size (0.2 mm x 0.1 mm) to large components.
- the carrier tape 60 has a base tape 61 and a cover tape 62.
- the base tape 61 has multiple cavities 65 that individually accommodate components 69.
- the base tape 61 is made of a flexible material such as resin or paper.
- Carrier tape 60 comes in two types: one in which the cavities 65 fit within the thickness of the flat surface of the base tape 61, and one in which the cavities 65 protrude downward from the flat surface, as shown in Figure 2.
- the cavities 65 open on the top surface of the base tape 61.
- the cavities 65 are arranged in a row at predetermined intervals along the length of the tape.
- the base tape 61 has multiple feed holes 66.
- the feed holes 66 engage with the sprocket 231 of the feeder 20.
- the feed holes 66 are formed in a generally circular or elliptical shape.
- the feed holes 66 are arranged in a row in the longitudinal direction of the tape at predetermined intervals.
- the feed holes 66 are arranged in a row in the longitudinal direction of the tape on one side of the tape width direction (for example, the left side in the tape feed direction).
- the cover tape 62 is a tape that closes the opening of the cavity 65 to prevent the component 69 from popping out.
- the cover tape 62 is made of, for example, a transparent polymer film.
- the cover tape 62 is adhered to the top surface of the base tape 61 on both sides of the cavity 65 in the width direction so as to avoid the opening of the cavity 65.
- the cover tape 62 is formed to exclude the area where the feed holes 66 are provided.
- the reel 30 is used as a core material around which the carrier tape 60 is wound.
- the reel 30 includes a shaft portion 31.
- the shaft portion 31 is a central core around which the carrier tape 60 is wound.
- the shaft portion 31 is formed in a cylindrical shape and has an axial length sufficient to hold the carrier tape 60.
- the shaft portion 31 has a plurality of slits 312 opening in an outer circumferential surface 311.
- the slits 312 are formed in a tapered shape such that the circumferential width of the shaft portion 31 gradually decreases from the radially inner side to the radially outer side of the shaft portion 31. In this embodiment, four slits 312 are formed at equal intervals (90 degrees) in the circumferential direction.
- the shaft portion 31 is formed, for example, from a resin material.
- the reel 30 has a pair of flange portions 32.
- the flange portions 32 are disk members provided on both ends of the shaft portion 31.
- the flange portions 32 are arranged concentrically with the shaft portion 31.
- the pair of flange portions 32 face each other and are spaced apart in the axial direction of the shaft portion 31, i.e., in the reel width direction.
- the pair of flange portions 32 are arranged so as to sandwich the carrier tape 60 wound around the shaft portion 31 from both sides.
- the distance between the pair of flange portions 32 (flange width) is set corresponding to the tape width of the carrier tape 60.
- the flange portions 32 are formed, for example, from a resin material or a paper material such as cardboard.
- the flange portion 32 is formed with a retaining hole 321 for holding the reel 30 and multiple locking grooves 322.
- the retaining hole 321 is a through hole used by the feeder 20, external setup device, reel warehouse, etc. to hold the reel 30.
- the retaining hole 321 is connected to a retaining hole (not shown) in the shaft portion 31.
- the locking grooves 322 are formed radially outward in the pair of flange portions 32.
- the reel 30 has three locking grooves 322 formed at equal intervals (120 degrees) around the circumference. The locking grooves 322 are used to prevent the reel 30 from rotating, etc.
- the carrier tape 60 generally has a tape width that is determined as a pre-defined standard, such as 4 mm, 8 mm, 12 mm, 16 mm, or 24 mm.
- Carrier tapes 60 come in a variety of types, including those with a flat base tape 61 and the embossed type mentioned above, with widths, thicknesses, and cavity 65 shapes varying depending on the components housed within.
- Reels 30 are available in multiple varieties with different flange widths and diameters to accommodate the various carrier tapes 60.
- the reel 30 includes a holding unit 40 that holds the end of the carrier tape 60.
- the holding unit 40 is detachably attached to the shaft 31.
- a feeder may have a set upper limit on the diameter of the reel that can be used.
- the diameter is set to, for example, 13 inches or less so that the reel 30 can fit inside the feeder body 21. Therefore, if the carrier tape 60 containing a specific type of component is wound on a reel with a diameter larger than 13 inches (e.g., 15 inches), it becomes necessary to rewind it onto a reel with a diameter of 13 inches or less.
- the carrier tape 60 wound on the reel 30 can accommodate a large number of components depending on the length of the carrier tape 60 and the pitch of the cavities 65.
- a tape rewinding device is used to wind the carrier tape 60.
- the tape rewinding device synchronously rotates the reels 30 held by the two reel holders. In this way, the tape rewinding device moves the carrier tape 60 a predetermined length between the two reels 30.
- all of the carrier tape 60 is wound by moving it from the 15-inch reel 30A to another spare reel 30B. Next, it is wound from the spare reel 30B onto each of the multiple 13-inch reels by moving it a predetermined length.
- trailer sections 68 are formed on both ends of the new carrier tape 60 (see Figure 4). These trailer sections 68 are set to a specified length (e.g., 160 mm), and are sections in which cavities 65 within that specified range do not house components 69. In Figure 4, cavities 65 that house components 69 are shown with diagonal lines, and cavities 65 that do not house components 69 are shown without diagonal lines.
- the trailer section 68 on the terminal side is connected to the shaft section 31 of the reel 30 by inserting the end into the slit 312, as shown in Figure 4.
- connection between the trailer section 68 on the terminal side and the shaft section 31 is severed when the carrier tape 60 is unwound from the reel 30, the portion wound around the shaft section 31 is removed, and a predetermined tension is applied to further feed and move the carrier tape 60. Specifically, the terminal end inserted into the slit 312 is pulled out, and the carrier tape 60 is released from the reel 30.
- the first tape 60A which is the side of the carrier tape 60 that has the trailer portion 68 and is to be rewound, can be wound onto the 13-inch reel 30C by connecting the trailer portion 68 to the shaft portion 31, as shown in Figure 4. Furthermore, even if the cavity 65 of the trailer portion 68 is crushed toward the center of the shaft portion 31 due to the tension during winding, since no component 69 is housed in the cavity 65, deformation of the component 69 will not occur.
- the second tape 60B of the carrier tape 60 that has been separated from the first tape 60A does not have a trailer portion 68 at its end. Therefore, if the end were inserted into the slit 312 and connected to the shaft portion 31, as with the first tape 60A, the tension applied during winding could place a load on the carrier tape 60, which could crush the cavities 65 that house the components. This could apply an external force to the components 69 housed in the cavities 65, which could cause the components 69 to deform.
- the reel 30 is configured to reduce the load on the wound carrier tape 60 and prevent external forces from being applied to components during the winding process.
- the reel 30 includes a string 42 and a connection portion 43.
- the string 42 and connection portion 43 form a holding unit 40 that holds the end of the carrier tape 60.
- the holding unit 40 includes a unit body 41.
- the unit body 41 is formed in a cylindrical shape with a bottom. As shown in FIGS. 5 and 10 , the unit body 41 is placed in a tapered slit 312 so that the axial direction of the unit body 41 is parallel to the axial direction of the shaft portion 31.
- the outer dimensions of the unit body 41 are smaller than the width of the opening of the slit 312, and the unit body 41 is prevented from slipping out of the slit 312.
- the holding unit 40 includes a string 42 that is unwound from the outer circumferential surface 311 of the shaft 31.
- the string 42 is unwound from one of four slits 312 that open in the outer circumferential surface 311 of the shaft 31, as shown in FIG. 5.
- the string 42 is a flexible, long member with one end fixed directly or indirectly to the shaft 31.
- the string 42 is an auxiliary tape 42A formed in a band shape.
- the string 42 may also be an auxiliary wire with a circular or elliptical cross-sectional shape.
- the holding unit 40 includes a connection part 43 that detachably connects the string 42 and the carrier tape 60.
- the connection part 43 is provided on the other end of the string 42 and connects the end of the carrier tape 60 wound around the reel 30 to the string 42.
- the carrier tape 60 is connected to the shaft part 31 of the reel 30 via the connection part 43 and the string 42.
- the string 42 and connection part 43 have a predetermined length (e.g., 160 mm) from the outer circumferential surface 311 of the shaft part 31, and function as a pseudo trailer part.
- connection portion 43 can be configured in various ways.
- the connection portion 43 has a chuck 43A that clamps the carrier tape 60 from both sides in the thickness direction.
- the chuck 43A can change the pair of gripping claws 43A1 from an open state to a closed state by pulling the pair of gripping claws 43A1 into the holder 43A2.
- the end portion of the carrier tape 60 is clamped between the pair of gripping claws 43A1, thereby causing the chuck 43A to enter a gripping state.
- the connection portion 43 is configured to release the carrier tape 60 when a predetermined tension is applied to the carrier tape 60 while the string 42 and carrier tape 60 are connected. Specifically, when a predetermined tension is applied to the chuck 43A, the pair of gripping claws 43A1 are pulled out from the holder 43A2. Accordingly, the pair of gripping claws 43A1 transition from a closed state to an open state, and the chuck 43A releases the end of the carrier tape 60. This causes the carrier tape 60 to detach from the chuck 43A.
- predetermined tension is set so that when the carrier tape 60 is unwound from the reel 30 and the portion wound around the shaft 31 is removed, the carrier tape 60 is released from the connection portion 43 due to the external force applied to feed and move the carrier tape 60.
- the predetermined tension is set to be higher than the tension generated by the weight of the unwound carrier tape 60 at the portion located between the connection portion 43 and the tape transport path 211 of the feeder 20, and lower than the maximum tension that can be applied to the carrier tape 60 when the feeder 20 feeds and moves the carrier tape 60.
- connection portion 43 the above-mentioned predetermined tension is adjusted appropriately based on the elastic force that tries to open the pair of gripping claws 43A1 and the sliding resistance that varies depending on the shapes of the pair of gripping claws 43A1 and the holder 43A2.
- the connection portion 43 may have a hook 43B that engages with an engagement hole 81 provided on the carrier tape 60.
- the locking hole 81 is a feed hole 66 that engages with the sprocket 231 of the feeder 20 when the carrier tape 60 is fed by the feeder 20, as shown in FIG. 7.
- the locking hole 81 is a perforation 67 formed in the carrier tape 60 and dedicated to the hook 43B, as shown in FIG. 8.
- the perforation 67 is formed in the center of the width of the base tape 61, for example, by a manual or automatic puncher.
- the locking hole 81 is a through-hole 73 formed in the extension tape 70 attached to the carrier tape 60, as shown in Figure 9.
- the extension tape 70 is a component specifically designed for winding, for example, the divided carrier tape 60, and has an adhesive portion 71 with an adhesive bottom side that allows it to be attached to the top surface of the carrier tape 60, and a non-adhesive portion 72 that extends longitudinally beyond the end of the carrier tape 60 and has non-adhesive surfaces on both sides.
- the extension tape 70 also has a through-hole 73 formed in the non-adhesive portion 72, allowing the hook 43B to be inserted through it.
- the carrier tape 60 may be configured to be released from the hook 43B when a predetermined tension is applied to the carrier tape 60.
- a notch may be formed in advance in at least a portion from the locking hole 81 to the terminal edge of the carrier tape 60, and when a predetermined tension is applied, the hook 43B may pass from the locking hole 81 through the notch, thereby releasing the carrier tape 60 from the hook 43B.
- the same configuration as above may be used, or the adhesive portion 71 and non-adhesive portion 72 may be separated, allowing the carrier tape 60 to be released from the hook 43B.
- the holding unit 40 of this embodiment is set on the inner periphery of the shaft 31 (radially inward from the outer periphery 311), and the string 42 is unwound from the outer periphery 311 of the shaft 31 through the slit 312.
- the holding unit 40 has a winding mechanism 50 that winds up the string 42.
- a general winding mechanism can be applied to the winding mechanism 50.
- the winding mechanism 50 has a drum 51 and a spiral spring 52.
- the drum 51 is rotatably mounted on the unit body 41 around a drum shaft 511. This allows the drum 51 to rotate relative to the shaft portion 31.
- the spiral spring 52 applies a biasing force that rotates the drum 51 in one rotational direction (counterclockwise in Figure 10).
- One end of the string 42 is fixed to the outer peripheral surface of the drum 51, and is wound onto the drum 51 as the drum 51 rotates in one direction.
- the drum 51 rotates in the other direction against the elastic force of the spiral spring 52, and the string 42 is pulled out from the holding unit 40.
- the string 42 is wound, and at least a portion of the connection portion 43 is housed inside the slit 312.
- the winding mechanism 50 causes at least a portion of the connection portion 43 to protrude from the outer peripheral surface 311 of the shaft portion 31.
- the amount of protrusion 85 by which the tip of the connection portion 43 protrudes from the outer peripheral surface 311 is preferably such that the connection portion 43 does not get in the way when winding the carrier tape 60 onto the reel 30 without using the holding unit 40, and is also such that the operator can easily grasp the connection portion 43 when pulling it out.
- the above-mentioned amount of protrusion 85 is adjusted by the setting position of the holding unit 40, the rotation of the drum 51 relative to the unit main body 41, etc. This improves the workability of the winding operation.
- the string 42 connected to the shaft portion 31 and the carrier tape 60 can be detachably connected via the connecting portion 43 during the winding operation, even if the carrier tape 60 does not have a trailer portion 68.
- the string 42 and the connecting portion 43 function as a pseudo trailer portion, preventing external force from being applied to the component 69 housed in the cavity 65 near the end of the carrier tape 60.
- the winding mechanism 50 of the holding unit 40 may have a locking mechanism that locks the winding of the string 42. This may improve the ease of winding.
- the winding mechanism 50 is configured to automatically wind the string 42 when tension on the string 42 is released, it may also be configured to wind the string manually, for example, without the spiral spring 52.
- the reel 30 may be provided with a storage section to prevent the string 42 and the connection portion 43 from moving loosely when the holding unit 40 is not in use, and the winding mechanism 50 may be omitted.
- the holding unit 40 is set in one of the multiple slits 312 on the inner periphery of the shaft portion 31.
- the holding unit 40 may also be configured to be detachably set on the outer periphery 311 of the shaft portion 31, for example.
- the string 42 and the connection portion 43 may not constitute the holding unit 40 illustrated in the embodiment, with the end of the string 42 being fixed integrally to a portion of the reel 30. Even with this configuration, as with the embodiment, it is possible to reduce the load on the carrier tape 60 during the winding operation, preventing deformation and preventing external force from being applied to the housed component 69.
