Prevent the total amount from leaking. However, if the volume of the space to be air-conditioned is sufficiently large and the concentration of the refrigerant in the space does not exceed the standard value even if the entire amount of refrigerant in the air conditioner leaks, a safety valve such as a refrigerant cutoff valve is required. No countermeasures need to be installed.

- the present disclosure is intended to solve the above problems, and aims to provide an air conditioner that can ensure safety in the event of refrigerant leakage even when the volume of the space where the indoor unit is installed changes.
- An air conditioner includes an indoor unit that cools or heats an air-conditioned space, an outdoor unit that supplies hot or cold heat to the indoor unit, a refrigerant cutoff unit that cuts off the supply of refrigerant to the indoor unit, and an indoor unit.
- a refrigerant sensor that detects the refrigerant leaked from the unit, a space detection unit that detects information about the volume of the space where the indoor unit is installed, and based on the detection results of the space detection unit, the space where the indoor unit is installed is a narrow space. and a control device that determines whether or not the space in which the indoor unit is installed is a narrow space, and energizes the refrigerant sensor.
- the volume of the space in which the indoor unit is installed is detected by the space detection unit, and when the space is narrow, the refrigerant sensor is energized, thereby changing the volume of the air-conditioned space. In this case, safety can be ensured even when the refrigerant leaks.
