Description
本発明は、ファウリング抑制能付与剤およびそれを用いてなる水処理膜に関する。
水処理膜は、不純物を含む水を処理するために用いられる膜であり、世界各国で排水基準、水質基準が強化されるに伴い、使用が広がっている。水処理膜が使用される用途には、浄水処理、プロセス水製造、下水処理、工業排水処理、海水の淡水化等があり、精密濾過膜、限外濾過膜、ナノ濾過膜、逆浸透膜、正浸透膜、イオン交換膜等の種々の水処理膜が用途に応じて使い分けられている。
これらの水処理膜には、使用に伴って有機物や微生物等の汚染物質(ファウラント)によって汚染され(ファウリング)、透過水量(フラックス)が低下するという課題がある。従来、この課題に対し、各種親水性樹脂を水処理膜に接触させて親水化処理を施すことでファウリングを抑制する技術が提案されている。例えば、構造中にリン原子及び窒素原子を含む所定の構造を有する単量体、及びカチオン性(メタ)アクリル酸エステルを含む単量体組成物を重合して得た共重合体と、水とを含むポリアミド逆浸透膜用の表面処理剤(特許文献1参照)や、逆浸透膜に、ポリアルキレンオキサイド鎖を有する変性ポリビニルアルコールを接触させることで親水化する方法(特許文献2参照)が開示されている。また、逆浸透膜に、ポリアルキレンオキサイド鎖を有するベタイン化合物を接触させることで逆浸透膜の耐汚染化処理をする方法(特許文献3参照)、更に、側鎖にエチレンオキシド鎖を有する所定の構造の構成単位[A]、及び、側鎖末端にブチル基を有する所定の構造の単量体単位[B]を所定の割合で有し、所定の重量平均分子量を有する共重合体からなる多孔質濾過膜用のファウリング抑制剤(特許文献4参照)が開示されている。
上記のとおり、ファウリング抑制のために親水性樹脂を水処理膜に接触させて親水化処理を施す技術が提案され、そのための各種親水性樹脂が提案されている。しかし例えば、水処理膜の1種である逆浸透膜(RO膜)は疎水性であるため、従来の親水性樹脂では膜への付着性が充分ではなく、長期間の使用においてRO膜から親水性樹脂が剥離し、ファウリング抑制能が失われてしまう。このように従来の親水性樹脂は、幅広い水処理膜に対して十分な付着性を有し、優れたファウリング抑制能を付与することができるものではなかった。
本発明は、上記現状に鑑みてなされたものであり、例えばRO膜等の各種の水処理膜に対する良好な付着性を有し、優れたファウリング抑制能を付与することができるファウリング抑制能付与剤を提供することを目的とする。
本発明者は、例えばRO膜等の各種の水処理膜に対する良好な付着性を有し、優れたファウリング抑制能を付与することができるファウリング抑制能付与剤について検討し、側鎖にオキシアルキレン基を有すると共に、側鎖末端に水酸基含有アルキル基を有する特定の構造の構造単位(I)と、側鎖にオキシアルキレン基を有し、側鎖末端が水素原子又はアルキル基である特定の構造の構造単位(II)とを有する共重合体が、各種の水処理膜に対する良好な付着性を有し、優れたファウリング抑制能を付与することができることを見出し、本発明に到達したものである。
すなわち本発明は、下記一般式(1);

(式中、R4は、水素原子又はメチル基を表す。R5は、直接結合、-CH2-、-CH2CH2-、又は-CO-を表す。R6は、同一又は異なって、炭素数1~20のアルキレン基を表す。R7は、水素原子又は炭素数1~20のアルキル基を表す。mは、オキシアルキレン基の付加モル数であり、1~100の数を表す。)で表される構造単位(II)とを有する共重合体を含むことを特徴とするファウリング抑制能付与剤である。
上記共重合体は、重量平均分子量が1,000~1,000,000であることが好ましい。
本発明はまた、本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤による処理がされてなることを特徴とする水処理膜でもある。
本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤は、精密濾過膜、限外濾過膜、ナノ濾過膜、逆浸透膜、正浸透膜、イオン交換膜等、各種の水処理膜に対する良好な付着性を有し、優れたファウリング抑制能を付与することができ、ファウラント付着後でも洗浄によるフラックス回復率が高い。このため、本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤を用いることで、水処理膜が長期間に渡って優れたファウリング抑制能を発揮することができる。
以下に本発明を詳述する。

1.ファウリング抑制能付与剤
本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤は、上記一般式(1)で表される構造単位(I)と、上記式(2)で表される構造単位(II)とを有する共重合体を含むことを特徴とする。本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤が含む共重合体は、構造単位(I)に該当する構造単位、構造単位(II)に該当する構造単位をそれぞれ1種有していてもよく、2種以上有していてもよい。また、構造単位(I)、(II)を有する限り、それ以外のその他の構成単位を1種又は2種以上有していてもよい。
本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤は、上記一般式(1)で表される構造単位(I)と、上記式(2)で表される構造単位(II)とを有する共重合体を含むことを特徴とする。本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤が含む共重合体は、構造単位(I)に該当する構造単位、構造単位(II)に該当する構造単位をそれぞれ1種有していてもよく、2種以上有していてもよい。また、構造単位(I)、(II)を有する限り、それ以外のその他の構成単位を1種又は2種以上有していてもよい。
上記一般式(1)において、R1は、水素原子又はメチル基を表す。
R2は、直接結合、-CH2-、-CH2CH2-、又は-CO-を表すが、水処理膜への親和性の観点から、-CO-であることが好ましい。

上記共重合体において、一般式(1)で表される構造単位(I)の割合は、全構造単位100モル%に対して、5~99モル%であることが好ましい。より好ましくは、10~99モル%であり、更に好ましくは、20~99モル%である。
また、共重合体において、一般式(2)で表される構造単位(II)の割合は、全構造単位100モル%に対して、1~95モル%であることが好ましい。より好ましくは、1~90モル%であり、更に好ましくは、1~80モル%である。
また、共重合体において、一般式(2)で表される構造単位(II)の割合は、全構造単位100モル%に対して、1~95モル%であることが好ましい。より好ましくは、1~90モル%であり、更に好ましくは、1~80モル%である。
上記構造単位(I)を形成する単量体、構造単位(II)を形成する単量体としては、それぞれ下記一般式(3)、一般式(4)の単量体が好ましい。

上記一般式(3)で表される単量体としては、グリセロールモノ(メタ)アクリレート等が挙げられる。
上記一般式(4)で表される単量体としては、エトキシ-ジエチレングリコール(メタ)アクリレート、メトキシ-トリエチレングリコール(メタ)アクリレート、2-エチルヘキシル-ジエチレングリコール(メタ)アクリレート、メトキシ-ポリエチレングリコール(メタ)アクリレート、メトキシ-ジプロピレングリコール(メタ)アクリレート、フェノキシ-ジエチレングリコール(メタ)アクリレート、フェノキシ-ポリエチレングリコール(メタ)アクリレート等のアルコキシアルキレングリコール(メタ)アクリレートや、(メタ)アリルアルコールのアルキレンオキサイド付加物、イソプレノールのアルキレンオキサイド付加物等の(イソ)プロペニル基を有するアルコキシアルキレングリコール等が挙げられる。これらの中でも、親水性の点から、メトキシ-ポリエチレングリコール(メタ)アクリレート、イソプレノールのアルキレンオキサイド付加物が好ましい。
上記共重合体が、構造単位(I)、(II)以外のその他の構成単位を有する場合、その他の構成単位を形成する単量体としては、アミン等のカチオン性基を有するエチレン性不飽和単量体;スルホン酸基、カルボン酸基等のアニオン性基を有するエチレン性不飽和単量体;エポキシ基等のその他の反応性基を有するエチレン性不飽和単量体等が挙げられる。
その他の構成単位は、これらのエチレン性不飽和単量体の炭素-炭素二重結合(C=C)が炭素-炭素単結合(C-C)に置き換わって、隣接する構成単位と結合を形成した構成単位である。ただし、このような構成単位に該当する構造であれば、実際に単量体の炭素-炭素二重結合が炭素-炭素単結合に置き換わって形成された構造でなくてもよい。
その他の構成単位は、これらのエチレン性不飽和単量体の炭素-炭素二重結合(C=C)が炭素-炭素単結合(C-C)に置き換わって、隣接する構成単位と結合を形成した構成単位である。ただし、このような構成単位に該当する構造であれば、実際に単量体の炭素-炭素二重結合が炭素-炭素単結合に置き換わって形成された構造でなくてもよい。
上記共重合体における、構造単位(I)、(II)以外のその他の構成単位の割合は、全構造単位100モル%に対して、80モル%以下であることが好ましい。より好ましくは、60モル%以下であり、更に好ましくは、40モル%以下である。
上記共重合体は、重量平均分子量が1,000~1,000,000であることが好ましい。このような分子量であると、膜への付着性とファウリング抑制能を両立することが可能となる。より好ましくは、5,000~500,000であり、更に好ましくは、10,000~200,000である。
共重合体の重量平均分子量は、ゲルパーミエーションクロマトグラフィー(GPC)を用いて、後述する実施例に記載の方法で測定することができる。

上記共重合体を製造する方法は、上記一般式(3)で表される単量体、一般式(4)で表される単量体、及び必要に応じて使用されるその他の単量体から上記共重合体が製造されることになる限り特に制限されず、ラジカル重合、カチオン重合、アニオン重合のいずれの重合反応を用いるものであってもよい。また重合反応は光重合、熱重合のいずれであってもよい。
上記共重合体を製造する際の重合反応は、重合開始剤を用いて行うことが好ましく、重合開始剤はラジカル重合開始剤、カチオン重合開始剤、アニオン重合開始剤の中から重合反応の種類に応じて用いることができる。これら重合開始剤としては、通常用いられるものを使用することができる。
重合開始剤の使用量は、重合反応に使用する単量体の合計1モルに対し、0.001~1モルの割合で使用することが好ましい。

本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤は、上記共重合体を含む限り、その他の成分を含んでいてもよい。
その他の成分としては例えば、リン酸塩等のpH安定剤、次亜塩素酸ナトリウム等の抗菌成分;メタノール、エタノール、プロパノール等の低級アルコール等の1種又は2種以上が挙げられる。

本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤における上記その他の成分の含有量は、ファウリング抑制能を阻害しない限り特に制限されないが、ファウリング抑制能付与剤に含まれる上記共重合体100質量%に対して、40質量%以下であることが好ましい。より好ましくは、20質量%以下である。
本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤は、水溶液の形態で用いられてもよい。その際、該水溶液中の上記共重合体の濃度には特に制限はないが、0.1~50,000mg/Lであることが好ましい。このような濃度であると、水溶液が取扱いのしやすい粘度を有するものとなり、かつ水処理膜にファウリング抑制能を付与するための処理時間が長くなり過ぎて非効率になることもない。該水溶液の濃度は、より好ましくは、0.1~20,000mg/Lであり、更に好ましくは、0.1~10,000mg/Lである。
上記ファウリング抑制能付与剤の水溶液を調製する際に用いる水は特に制限されないが、脱塩水等のイオン負荷の低い水が好ましい。また、水処理膜で処理する水にファウリング抑制能付与剤を添加して、水溶液を調製すると共に該水溶液で水処理膜を処理してもよい。
2.ファウリング抑制能の付与方法
本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤を用いて水処理膜にファウリング抑制能を付与する方法は特に制限されず、水処理膜の形成前に膜の原料に本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤を混合した後、該原料を用いて水処理膜を形成する方法や、水処理膜の原料樹脂表面に本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤に含まれる共重合体をグラフト重合等により結合させる方法、水処理膜表面を本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤でコーティングする方法、本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤の水溶液を水処理膜に接触させる方法等が挙げられる。これらのファウリング抑制能付与剤で水処理膜を処理する方法の中でも、本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤の水溶液を水処理膜に接触させることで水処理膜にファウリング抑制能を付与する方法が好ましい。この方法を用いると、水処理装置による水処理を行いながら同時に水処理膜にファウリング抑制能を付与することが可能であり、最も簡便に水処理膜にファウリング抑制能を付与することができる。

本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤の水溶液を水処理膜に接触させる方法は、それによってファウリング抑制能が付与されることになる限り特に制限されないが、ファウリング抑制能付与剤の水溶液を水処理膜に加圧通水させる方法が好ましい。
ファウリング抑制能付与剤の水溶液を水処理膜に加圧通水させる場合、水処理装置内に設置された水処理膜に対してファウリング抑制能付与剤の水溶液を加圧通水させてもよく、水処理装置とは別に設置された水処理膜にファウリング抑制能付与剤の水溶液を加圧通水させてもよい。水処理装置内に設置された水処理膜に対してファウリング抑制能付与処理を行う場合、水処理装置の稼働中に、被処理水に本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤を添加して水処理とファウリング抑制能付与処理とを同時に行ってもよく、水処理を行うことなく、ファウリング抑制能付与処理のみを行ってもよい。
ファウリング抑制能付与剤の水溶液を水処理膜に加圧通水させる場合、水処理装置内に設置された水処理膜に対してファウリング抑制能付与剤の水溶液を加圧通水させてもよく、水処理装置とは別に設置された水処理膜にファウリング抑制能付与剤の水溶液を加圧通水させてもよい。水処理装置内に設置された水処理膜に対してファウリング抑制能付与処理を行う場合、水処理装置の稼働中に、被処理水に本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤を添加して水処理とファウリング抑制能付与処理とを同時に行ってもよく、水処理を行うことなく、ファウリング抑制能付与処理のみを行ってもよい。
上記水処理膜に対してファウリング抑制能付与剤の水溶液を加圧通水させる際の圧力は、ファウリング抑制能が付与されることになる限り特に制限されないが、0.1~12MPaであることが好ましい。
また、通水する際のフラックスには特に制限はないが、0.1~15m3/m2/day程度が好ましい。
このような通水条件で行うことで、フラックスの低下が大きくなりすぎないようにしながら、ファウリング抑制能を十分に付与することができる。

上記水処理膜に対してファウリング抑制能付与剤の水溶液を加圧通水させて処理する時間は特に制限されないが、フラックスの低下が大きくなりすぎないようにしながら、ファウリング抑制能を十分に付与することを考慮すると、1~1,000時間であることが好ましい。より好ましくは、2~300時間である。
上記水処理膜に対してファウリング抑制能付与剤の水溶液を加圧通水させて処理する際の処理温度は特に制限されないが、フラックスの低下が大きくなりすぎないようにし、かつ水処理膜の変性を抑制することも考慮すると、5~60℃が好ましい。より好ましくは10~50℃である。
3.ファウリング抑制方法
本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤により水処理膜にファウリング抑制能を付与することができるが、本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤を用いたとしても長期間に渡って水処理に使用すると、水処理膜にファウラントが徐々に付着し、水の透過率が低下することは避けられない。しかし、膜に付着したファウラントを除去することで水処理膜の透過率を回復させることができる。
膜に付着したファウラントを除去する方法は特に制限されないが、機械的剥離洗浄及び/又は薬洗により効果的にファウラントを除去することができ、水処理膜の透過率を回復させることができる。本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤により処理した水処理膜は、このような洗浄によるフラックスの回復率が高いため、このような洗浄を組み合わせることで、長期間に渡って優れたファウリング抑制能を発揮することが可能となる。
このようにしてファウラントを除去し、水処理膜の透過率を回復させる工程も含むファウリング抑制方法、すなわち、下記一般式(1);
本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤により水処理膜にファウリング抑制能を付与することができるが、本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤を用いたとしても長期間に渡って水処理に使用すると、水処理膜にファウラントが徐々に付着し、水の透過率が低下することは避けられない。しかし、膜に付着したファウラントを除去することで水処理膜の透過率を回復させることができる。
膜に付着したファウラントを除去する方法は特に制限されないが、機械的剥離洗浄及び/又は薬洗により効果的にファウラントを除去することができ、水処理膜の透過率を回復させることができる。本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤により処理した水処理膜は、このような洗浄によるフラックスの回復率が高いため、このような洗浄を組み合わせることで、長期間に渡って優れたファウリング抑制能を発揮することが可能となる。
このようにしてファウラントを除去し、水処理膜の透過率を回復させる工程も含むファウリング抑制方法、すなわち、下記一般式(1);

(式中、R4は、水素原子又はメチル基を表す。R5は、直接結合、-CH2-、-CH2CH2-、又は-CO-を表す。R6は、同一又は異なって、炭素数1~20のアルキレン基を表す。R7は、水素原子又は炭素数1~20のアルキル基を表す。mは、オキシアルキレン基の付加モル数であり、1~100の数を表す。)で表される構造単位(II)とを有する共重合体を含むファウリング抑制能付与剤で水処理膜を処理してファウリング抑制能を付与する工程と、ファウリング抑制能を付与した水処理膜を機械的剥離洗浄及び/又は薬洗により洗浄して水処理膜に付着したファウラントを除去する工程とを含む水処理膜のファウリング抑制方法もまた、本発明の1つである。
上記ファウラントを除去する工程は、機械的剥離洗浄及び/又は薬洗により行われる。
薬洗は、水処理膜に付着したファウラントを薬剤によって除去する方法であればいずれの方法であってもよいが、酸及び/又はその塩(以下、酸(塩)と記載する)、アルカリの少なくとも1種類の洗浄剤を用いた洗浄により行われることが好ましい。
機械的剥離洗浄は、機械的な剥離力により水処理膜に付着したファウラントを除去する方法であればいずれの方法であってもよく、超音波、バブル等を利用した洗浄や逆洗などにより行うことができる。
逆洗とは、水処理膜に対して、水処理時とは逆の方向に水を流して機械的な剥離力により水処理膜に付着したファウラントを除去する方法である。
逆洗を行う場合、水処理膜に対して水処理時とは逆の方向に通水する際のフラックスには特に制限はないが、ファウラントを充分に除去することと洗浄工程の効率とを考慮すると、0.1~15m3/m2/dayであることが好ましい。
また、水は加圧通水させてもよく、加圧通水させる場合の圧力には特に制限はないが、ファウラントを充分に除去することと膜に悪影響を与えないこととを考慮すると、0.1~12Mpaであることが好ましい。
薬洗は、水処理膜に付着したファウラントを薬剤によって除去する方法であればいずれの方法であってもよいが、酸及び/又はその塩(以下、酸(塩)と記載する)、アルカリの少なくとも1種類の洗浄剤を用いた洗浄により行われることが好ましい。
機械的剥離洗浄は、機械的な剥離力により水処理膜に付着したファウラントを除去する方法であればいずれの方法であってもよく、超音波、バブル等を利用した洗浄や逆洗などにより行うことができる。
逆洗とは、水処理膜に対して、水処理時とは逆の方向に水を流して機械的な剥離力により水処理膜に付着したファウラントを除去する方法である。
逆洗を行う場合、水処理膜に対して水処理時とは逆の方向に通水する際のフラックスには特に制限はないが、ファウラントを充分に除去することと洗浄工程の効率とを考慮すると、0.1~15m3/m2/dayであることが好ましい。
また、水は加圧通水させてもよく、加圧通水させる場合の圧力には特に制限はないが、ファウラントを充分に除去することと膜に悪影響を与えないこととを考慮すると、0.1~12Mpaであることが好ましい。
上記ファウラントを除去する工程を酸(塩)、アルカリの少なくとも1種類の洗浄剤を用いた洗浄により行う場合、酸としては、塩酸、硫酸、硝酸、亜硝酸、炭酸、リン酸、次亜塩素酸、次亜ヨウ素酸等の無機酸やギ酸、酢酸、クエン酸、プロピオン酸、酪酸、シュウ酸、乳酸、マレイン酸、フマル酸、コハク酸、安息香酸等の有機酸等の1種又は2種以上を用いることができる。酸の塩類としては、例えば、ナトリウム塩、カリウム塩等のアルカリ金属塩であってもよいし、アンモニウム塩等の有機塩であってもよい。
またアルカリとしては、水酸化ナトリウム、水酸化カリウム等のアルカリ金属水酸化物や、ドデシル硫酸ナトリウム、エチレンジアミン四酢酸四ナトリウム等の1種又は2種以上を用いることができる。

上記洗浄に用いる酸(塩)やアルカリの濃度には特に制限はないが、水処理膜に悪影響を与えることなくファウラントを充分に除去することを考えると、水に対する溶質の割合として0.1~60質量%であることが好ましい。
上記水処理膜を洗浄する工程を酸(塩)、アルカリの少なくとも1種類の洗浄剤を用いた洗浄により行う場合、洗浄剤を用いて水処理膜を洗浄する方法は、水処理膜が洗浄されることになる限り特に制限されず、水処理膜を水処理装置から取り外して洗浄剤中に浸漬させるか、水処理膜に対して洗浄剤を通液させることで洗浄してもよく、水処理装置中に設置された水処理膜に対して洗浄剤を通液させて洗浄してもよい。中でも、水処理膜の洗浄を簡便に行うことができる点で、水処理装置中に設置された水処理膜に対して洗浄剤を通液させて洗浄することが好ましい。
4.水処理膜、水処理システム
本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤は、例えばRO膜等の各種の水処理膜に対する良好な付着性を有し、優れたファウリング抑制能を付与することができるものであり、本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤で処理された水処理膜は優れたファウリング抑制能を長期間に渡って発揮することができる。このような、本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤による処理がされてなる水処理膜もまた、本発明の1つである。該水処理膜の具体的な例として、精密濾過膜、限外濾過膜、ナノ濾過膜、RO膜、正浸透膜、イオン交換膜がある。
本発明の水処理膜は、超純水製造システム、排水回収システムをはじめとする各種水処理システムに好適に用いることができる。
本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤は、例えばRO膜等の各種の水処理膜に対する良好な付着性を有し、優れたファウリング抑制能を付与することができるものであり、本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤で処理された水処理膜は優れたファウリング抑制能を長期間に渡って発揮することができる。このような、本発明のファウリング抑制能付与剤による処理がされてなる水処理膜もまた、本発明の1つである。該水処理膜の具体的な例として、精密濾過膜、限外濾過膜、ナノ濾過膜、RO膜、正浸透膜、イオン交換膜がある。
本発明の水処理膜は、超純水製造システム、排水回収システムをはじめとする各種水処理システムに好適に用いることができる。
以下に実施例を掲げて本発明を更に詳細に説明するが、本発明はこれらの実施例のみに限定されるものではない。なお、特に断りのない限り、「部」は「重量部」を、「%」は「質量%」を意味するものとする。
実施例1~6、比較例1、2で製造した重合体の重量平均分子量は、以下の条件で測定した。

1.重合体の製造
実施例1
温度計、還流冷却器、攪拌機を備えた容量200mLのガラス製セパラブルフラスコに、純水50.7部を仕込み、攪拌下、80℃になるまで昇温した。次いで、攪拌下、重合反応系中に、グリセロールモノメタクリレート(以下、GLMMと称す)4.8部、メトキシポリエチレングリコールアクリレート(新中村化学社製、メトキシポリエチレングリコール#400アクリレート、エチレングリコールの付加モル数9。以下、AM-90Gと称す)57.9部、2質量%過硫酸ナトリウム水溶液(以下、2%NaPSと称す)22.5部、35質量%亜硫酸水素ナトリウム水溶液(以下、35%SBSと称す)0.9部、純水20部を、それぞれ別個の滴下ノズルより滴下した。各滴下液の滴下時間は、GLMMを180分間およびAM-90Gを180分間、2%NaPSを210分間、35%SBSを180分間、純水を180分間とした。上記各滴下は、すべて同時に滴下を開始し、滴下速度は一定とし、連続的に滴下した。
滴下終了後、更に30分間に亘って反応溶液を80℃に保持して熟成し、重合を完結させた。このようにして、重量平均分子量が54,000の共重合体(1)を得た。
実施例1
温度計、還流冷却器、攪拌機を備えた容量200mLのガラス製セパラブルフラスコに、純水50.7部を仕込み、攪拌下、80℃になるまで昇温した。次いで、攪拌下、重合反応系中に、グリセロールモノメタクリレート(以下、GLMMと称す)4.8部、メトキシポリエチレングリコールアクリレート(新中村化学社製、メトキシポリエチレングリコール#400アクリレート、エチレングリコールの付加モル数9。以下、AM-90Gと称す)57.9部、2質量%過硫酸ナトリウム水溶液(以下、2%NaPSと称す)22.5部、35質量%亜硫酸水素ナトリウム水溶液(以下、35%SBSと称す)0.9部、純水20部を、それぞれ別個の滴下ノズルより滴下した。各滴下液の滴下時間は、GLMMを180分間およびAM-90Gを180分間、2%NaPSを210分間、35%SBSを180分間、純水を180分間とした。上記各滴下は、すべて同時に滴下を開始し、滴下速度は一定とし、連続的に滴下した。
滴下終了後、更に30分間に亘って反応溶液を80℃に保持して熟成し、重合を完結させた。このようにして、重量平均分子量が54,000の共重合体(1)を得た。
実施例2
50mLスクリュー管に、純水を109.2部、GLMMを26.6部、AM-90Gを2.9部、NaPSを0.09部、SBSを0.064部加え、自動合成装置にて80℃に昇温した後に3時間撹拌を行い、重合を完結させた。このようにして、重量平均分子量が120,000の共重合体(2)を得た。
50mLスクリュー管に、純水を109.2部、GLMMを26.6部、AM-90Gを2.9部、NaPSを0.09部、SBSを0.064部加え、自動合成装置にて80℃に昇温した後に3時間撹拌を行い、重合を完結させた。このようにして、重量平均分子量が120,000の共重合体(2)を得た。
実施例3
実施例1において、初期仕込みの純水を34.8部、GLMMを19.2部、AM-90Gを14.5部、2%NaPSを22.5部、35%SBSを1.3部、滴下する純水を20部に変更した以外は実施例1と同様に重合を行い、重量平均分子量が19,000の共重合体(3)を得た。
実施例1において、初期仕込みの純水を34.8部、GLMMを19.2部、AM-90Gを14.5部、2%NaPSを22.5部、35%SBSを1.3部、滴下する純水を20部に変更した以外は実施例1と同様に重合を行い、重量平均分子量が19,000の共重合体(3)を得た。
実施例4
30mL容のシュレンク管内にGLMM1.5部、α-ヨードフェニル酢酸エチル0.014部、2,2’-アゾビス(2,4-ジメチルバレロニトリル)0.003部、テトラブチルアンモニウムヨージド0.043部、及びエタノール2.25部を添加した後、シュレンク管の内部空間をアルゴンガスで置換した。シュレンク管の内容物を60℃にて25分間撹拌することによって反応を行った。反応終了後、得られた反応溶液をジエチルエーテルに滴下することにより第1段階目の重合体を得た。重合体の数平均分子量Mnは8,000、重量平均分子量は10,000であった。
次いで100mL容のナスフラスコ内に得られた重合体0.042部、AM-90G0.26部、4,4’-アゾビス(4-シアノ吉草酸)0.002部、ヨウ化ナトリウム0.003部、及びイオン交換水4.29部を添加した後、ナスフラスコの内部空間をアルゴンガスで置換した。ナスフラスコの内容物を90℃にて3時間撹拌することによって反応を行った。反応終了後、得られた反応溶液をメタノールで希釈し、ジエチルエーテルに滴下することによりブロック共重合体(4)を得た。ブロック共重合体(4)の数平均分子量Mnは14,000、重量平均分子量は23,000であった。
第1段階目の重合体、およびブロック共重合体(4)の数平均分子量Mnから計算したブロック共重合体(4)中に含まれるグリセロールモノメタクリレートユニットとメトキシポリエチレングリコールアクリレートユニットのモル比は、78:22であった。
30mL容のシュレンク管内にGLMM1.5部、α-ヨードフェニル酢酸エチル0.014部、2,2’-アゾビス(2,4-ジメチルバレロニトリル)0.003部、テトラブチルアンモニウムヨージド0.043部、及びエタノール2.25部を添加した後、シュレンク管の内部空間をアルゴンガスで置換した。シュレンク管の内容物を60℃にて25分間撹拌することによって反応を行った。反応終了後、得られた反応溶液をジエチルエーテルに滴下することにより第1段階目の重合体を得た。重合体の数平均分子量Mnは8,000、重量平均分子量は10,000であった。
次いで100mL容のナスフラスコ内に得られた重合体0.042部、AM-90G0.26部、4,4’-アゾビス(4-シアノ吉草酸)0.002部、ヨウ化ナトリウム0.003部、及びイオン交換水4.29部を添加した後、ナスフラスコの内部空間をアルゴンガスで置換した。ナスフラスコの内容物を90℃にて3時間撹拌することによって反応を行った。反応終了後、得られた反応溶液をメタノールで希釈し、ジエチルエーテルに滴下することによりブロック共重合体(4)を得た。ブロック共重合体(4)の数平均分子量Mnは14,000、重量平均分子量は23,000であった。
第1段階目の重合体、およびブロック共重合体(4)の数平均分子量Mnから計算したブロック共重合体(4)中に含まれるグリセロールモノメタクリレートユニットとメトキシポリエチレングリコールアクリレートユニットのモル比は、78:22であった。
実施例5
実施例2において、純水を20.2部、GLMMをグリセリンモノアクリレート(以下GLMAと称す)4.38部、AM-90Gを3.62部、NaPSを0.11部、SBSを0.07部に変更した以外は実施例2と同様に重合を行い、重量平均分子量が51,000の共重合体(5)を得た。
実施例2において、純水を20.2部、GLMMをグリセリンモノアクリレート(以下GLMAと称す)4.38部、AM-90Gを3.62部、NaPSを0.11部、SBSを0.07部に変更した以外は実施例2と同様に重合を行い、重量平均分子量が51,000の共重合体(5)を得た。
実施例6
実施例5において、純水を15.0部、GLMAを5.85部、AM-90GをイソプレノールのEO50mol付加物(IPN-50と称す)の60%水溶液1.60部、NaPSを0.12部、SBSを0.06部に変更した以外は実施例5と同様に重合を行い、重量平均分子量が48,000の共重合体(6)を得た。
実施例5において、純水を15.0部、GLMAを5.85部、AM-90GをイソプレノールのEO50mol付加物(IPN-50と称す)の60%水溶液1.60部、NaPSを0.12部、SBSを0.06部に変更した以外は実施例5と同様に重合を行い、重量平均分子量が48,000の共重合体(6)を得た。
比較例1
実施例1において、GLMMを使用せず、初期仕込みの純水を48.5部、AM-90Gを57.9部、2%NaPSを18.0部、35%SBSを0.3部、滴下する純水を20部に変更した以外は実施例1と同様に重合を行い、重量平均分子量が43,000の比較重合体(1)を得た。
実施例1において、GLMMを使用せず、初期仕込みの純水を48.5部、AM-90Gを57.9部、2%NaPSを18.0部、35%SBSを0.3部、滴下する純水を20部に変更した以外は実施例1と同様に重合を行い、重量平均分子量が43,000の比較重合体(1)を得た。
比較例2
実施例1において、AM-90Gを使用せず、初期仕込みの純水を44.7部、GLMMを32.0部、2%NaPSを30.0部に変更した以外は実施例1と同様に重合を行い、重量平均分子量が47,000の比較重合体(2)を得た。

2.特性評価
実施例1~6、比較例1、2で合成した重合体を用いて、以下の方法により水処理膜を修飾し、ファウリング抑制能の評価を行った。また、ファウラントを付着させた水処理膜をアルカリで処理することによるフラックス回復率を測定した。比較のため、重合体で修飾していない水処理膜についても同様の評価を行い、比較例3とした。結果を表1に示す。
<膜の修飾>
合成した重合体の水溶液に分画分子量60,000のポリエーテルスルホン製中空糸型限外濾過膜(UF膜)モジュールを24時間浸漬することにより、膜表面を重合体で修飾した。
<ファウリング抑制能評価>
合成した重合体によって修飾された膜モジュールを含む図1の装置を用いて、1バールの圧力下で膜モジュールにイオン交換水を通水した後、膜モジュールに1バールの圧力下でファウラントとして0.5重量%ウシ血清アルブミン水溶液を通水し、フラックスPWPFを測定した。
<フラックス回復率の測定>
合成した重合体によって修飾された膜モジュールを含む図1の装置を用いて、1バールの圧力下で膜モジュールにイオン交換水を通水し、フラックスPWPBFを測定した。続いて膜モジュールに1バールの圧力下でファウラントとして0.5重量%ウシ血清アルブミン水溶液を2時間通水することにより、膜表面へファウラントを吸着させた。膜にファウラントを吸着させた後、膜モジュールにイオン交換水を15分間、および0.2重量%水酸化ナトリウム水溶液を15分間通水することにより膜を洗浄した。膜洗浄後、再びイオン交換水を1バールの圧力下で膜モジュールに通水し、フラックスPWPAFを測定した。以下の式によりフラックス回復率を算出し、ポリマーのファウリング抑制能を比較した。
フラックス回復率(%)=PWPAF/PWPBF×100
実施例1~6、比較例1、2で合成した重合体を用いて、以下の方法により水処理膜を修飾し、ファウリング抑制能の評価を行った。また、ファウラントを付着させた水処理膜をアルカリで処理することによるフラックス回復率を測定した。比較のため、重合体で修飾していない水処理膜についても同様の評価を行い、比較例3とした。結果を表1に示す。
<膜の修飾>

<フラックス回復率の測定>
合成した重合体によって修飾された膜モジュールを含む図1の装置を用いて、1バールの圧力下で膜モジュールにイオン交換水を通水し、フラックスPWPBFを測定した。続いて膜モジュールに1バールの圧力下でファウラントとして0.5重量%ウシ血清アルブミン水溶液を2時間通水することにより、膜表面へファウラントを吸着させた。膜にファウラントを吸着させた後、膜モジュールにイオン交換水を15分間、および0.2重量%水酸化ナトリウム水溶液を15分間通水することにより膜を洗浄した。膜洗浄後、再びイオン交換水を1バールの圧力下で膜モジュールに通水し、フラックスPWPAFを測定した。以下の式によりフラックス回復率を算出し、ポリマーのファウリング抑制能を比較した。
フラックス回復率(%)=PWPAF/PWPBF×100
表1の結果から、本発明の共重合体によって修飾されたUF膜は、ファウラントを含む水溶液を通水した際のフラックスが高く、またフラックス回復率も良好であることが確認され、これにより、本発明の共重合体が、水処理膜に対して優れたファウリング抑制能を付与することができることが確認された。
3.重合体の製造
実施例7
温度計、還流冷却器、攪拌機を備えた容量200mLのガラス製セパラブルフラスコに、純水60部を仕込み、攪拌下、80℃になるまで昇温した。次いで、攪拌下、重合反応系中に、GLMM12.8部、AM-90G25.7部、2%NaPS20部、35%SBS0.76部、純水20部を、それぞれ別個の滴下ノズルより滴下した。各滴下液の滴下時間は、GLMMを180分間およびAM-90Gを180分間、2%NaPSを210分間、35%SBSを180分間、純水を180分間とした。上記各滴下は、すべて同時に滴下を開始し、滴下速度は一定とし、連続的に滴下した。
滴下終了後、更に30分間に亘って反応溶液を80℃に保持して熟成し、重合を完結させた。このようにして、重量平均分子量が47,200の共重合体(7)を得た。
実施例7
温度計、還流冷却器、攪拌機を備えた容量200mLのガラス製セパラブルフラスコに、純水60部を仕込み、攪拌下、80℃になるまで昇温した。次いで、攪拌下、重合反応系中に、GLMM12.8部、AM-90G25.7部、2%NaPS20部、35%SBS0.76部、純水20部を、それぞれ別個の滴下ノズルより滴下した。各滴下液の滴下時間は、GLMMを180分間およびAM-90Gを180分間、2%NaPSを210分間、35%SBSを180分間、純水を180分間とした。上記各滴下は、すべて同時に滴下を開始し、滴下速度は一定とし、連続的に滴下した。
滴下終了後、更に30分間に亘って反応溶液を80℃に保持して熟成し、重合を完結させた。このようにして、重量平均分子量が47,200の共重合体(7)を得た。
実施例8
実施例7において、35%SBSを0.50部に変更した以外は実施例7と同様に重合を行い、重量平均分子量が54,200の共重合体(8)を得た。

実施例3において、35%SBSを1.0部に変更した以外は実施例3と同様に重合を行い、重量平均分子量が23,700の共重合体(9)を得た。

4.特性評価
<ポリイミド膜への吸着試験>
ポリイミド膜(宇部興産社製、ユーピレックス75μm、15mm×50mm)の試験片(すなわち、浸漬前の試験片)を、実施例7で得られた共重合体(7)の4%水溶液(水溶液温度25℃)に60分間浸漬した後、130℃で60分間乾燥し、これを「浸漬後の試験片」とした。浸漬前後の試験片重量変化から、ポリイミド膜に対する共重合体(7)の吸着量(%)を算出した。共重合体(8)、共重合体(9)及び比較重合体(1)についても同様の試験を行った。結果を表2に示す。
<ポリイミド膜への吸着試験>

表2の結果から、本発明の共重合体は、ポリイミド膜への付着性が高いことが確認され、これにより、逆浸透膜への付着性にも優れることが確認された。

- 下記一般式(1);
(式中、R1は、水素原子又はメチル基を表す。R2は、直接結合、-CH2-、-CH2CH2-、又は-CO-を表す。R3は、同一又は異なって、炭素数1~20のアルキレン基を表す。Xは、-CH2CH(OH)CH2(OH)、又は-CH(-CH2OH)2を表す。nは、オキシアルキレン基の付加モル数であり、0~100の数を表す。)で表される構造単位(I)と、下記式(2);
(式中、R4は、水素原子又はメチル基を表す。R5は、直接結合、-CH2-、-CH2CH2-、又は-CO-を表す。R6は、同一又は異なって、炭素数1~20のアルキレン基を表す。R7は、水素原子又は炭素数1~20のアルキル基を表す。mは、オキシアルキレン基の付加モル数であり、1~100の数を表す。)で表される構造単位(II)とを有する共重合体を含むことを特徴とするファウリング抑制能付与剤。 - 前記共重合体は、重量平均分子量が1,000~1,000,000であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のファウリング抑制能付与剤。
- 請求項1又は2に記載のファウリング抑制能付与剤による処理がされてなることを特徴とする水処理膜。
