  • the sliding member of the present invention can suppress the occurrence of seizure by suppressing a sudden increase in the temperature of the sliding member during the familiarizing process. Further, even if the load and the sliding speed (sliding speed) change during the running-in process, a sharp increase in the friction coefficient can be suppressed, and the running-in process can be stably performed.
  • the sliding member of the present invention has excellent conformability, is free from seizure, and can form a favorable conforming surface in a short time. The reason why such an effect is obtained is supposed to be as follows.
  • the sliding member of the present invention has the polymer monolith on the surface of the base material, but since the polymer monolith has a three-dimensional bicontinuous structure of continuous pores and polymer skeleton, it has high flexibility, It is easy to keep the lubricating oil inside efficiently. Since such a polymer monolith is formed on the sliding-side surface of the base material whose surface roughness Ra on the sliding side is 0.5 to 1000 ⁇ m, friction with the mating member at the time of running-in treatment is achieved. The coefficient can be kept low. Further, even if a strong load is applied to the sliding surface with the mating member during the fitting-in process, it is possible to suppress a sudden increase in the temperature of the sliding member and suppress the occurrence of seizure. Further, it is possible to suppress a sudden change in the friction coefficient.
  • the conforming treatment gradually progresses, the projections on the sliding side surface of the base material (hereinafter, also referred to as sliding surface) are worn and the sliding surface is gradually flattened, and the polymer monolith is gradually
  • the conforming treatment proceeds with the polymer monolith remaining in the recesses of the sliding surface even when the conforming treatment has progressed to some extent. Therefore, it is presumed that the polymer monolith can maintain the excellent effect of improving the frictional characteristics and the effect of suppressing seizure even at a stage where the familiarization treatment has progressed to some extent.
  • the sliding member of the present invention is presumed to have excellent conformability.
  • the sliding member of the present invention is also excellent in impact resistance.
  • the polymer monolith may remain in the recesses on the sliding surface of the base material even after the running-in treatment.

Further, excellent conformability can be obtained without performing high-level polishing (for example, only primary machining), and the manufacturing cost of the sliding member can be reduced. Needless to say, the sliding member of the present invention may be one in which the sliding surface of the base material is highly polished.
  • the sliding member of the present invention even when the running-in process is performed under poor lubrication conditions in which the supply of lubricating oil is small, the temperature of the sliding member suddenly rises and the friction coefficient rapidly increases. Fluctuations can be suppressed. It is presumed that the reason why such an effect is obtained is that the polymer monolith easily holds the lubricating oil effectively inside.
  • the sliding member of the present invention even when the running-in process is performed by intermittent operation such as repeated start and stop, the temperature of the sliding member is suddenly increased and the friction coefficient is increased. It is possible to suppress abrupt changes and form a good conforming surface.
  • the reason why such an effect is obtained is that, as described above, the polymer monolith easily retains the lubricating oil inside effectively, and therefore the driving stop of the device is stopped due to the effect of the polymer monolith holding the lubricating oil inside. It is presumed that this is because it is possible to avoid problems such as burn-in due to running out of oil.
