図15を参照して、第1マフラーケース81は、右後角部に、触媒72の下流端の近傍まで凹んだ凹部81vが形成されており、触媒円筒管73から縮径部74aを経て後方に延びた中流連結排気管74が右側後壁81BRを貫通して凹部81vに、すなわち外部に突出している。
第2マフラーケース82は、内部がセパレータ82sにより前後に画成され、後側の内部空間が第2膨張室F2を構成し、前側の内部空間が第3膨張室F3を構成する。
下流側連結排気管75の第2マフラーケース82に貫入した後側部分は、第3膨張室F3を後方に延びてセパレータ82sを貫通して、後端開口を第2膨張室F2に臨ませている。
したがって、シリンダヘッド64の排気ポートから上流側排気管71に排出された排ガスは、第1マフラーケース81内に設けられた触媒円筒管73内の触媒72を通過して浄化された後、一旦外部に出る中流連結排気管44を流れて、再び第1マフラーケース81内の第1膨張室F1に流入し、膨張して排気圧を開放する。
第2膨張室F2に流入した排ガスは、連通管76を通って第3膨張室F3に流入し、膨張して、またさらに排気圧を開放する。
このように、本排気装置70のマフラー80は、第1,第2,第3膨張室F1,F2,F3により3段に亘って排気圧が開放されて排気音が低減される。
触媒72が、上流側の第1マフラーケース51の第1膨張室F1内に配置されるので、第1膨張室F1内の排ガスの熱によって触媒72を早期活性化することができるとともに、第1膨張室F1内の熱によって触媒72が保温され、活性状態を維持することができる。
LAFセンサ85は、上流側排気管71の触媒72に近い第1マフラーケース81の近傍に取り付けられ、上流側排気管71中の排ガスの酸素濃度と未燃ガス濃度から空燃比を検出する。
したがって、第1マフラーケース81に凹部を形成するなどの加工をすることなく、O2センサ86を中流連結排気管74の外部に露出した部分に容易に取り付けることができる。
膨張室の容量を削減する必要もない。
したがって、O2センサ86は、中流連結排気管74の第1マフラーケース81の右側後壁81BRから凹部81vに突出した部分に取り付けられる。

Claims (12)
- 内燃機関から延出する排気管に触媒(42;72)と消音器(50;80)が設けられる車両に搭載される内燃機関の排気装置において、
前記触媒(42;72)の上流に設けられた上流側排ガスセンサ(55;85)と、前記触媒(42;72)の下流に設けられた下流側排ガスセンサ(56;86)とを、備え、
前記下流側排ガスセンサ(56;86)は、前記消音器(50;80)の膨張室(E2,E3;F1)から外部に延出した排気管(44;74)に設けられることを特徴とする内燃機関の排気装置。 - 前記触媒(42)は、前記膨張室(E2,E3)内に配置されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の内燃機関の排気装置。
- 前記膨張室(E2,E3)から外部に延出した排気管(44)は、連結排気管(44)として別の膨張室(E1)に接続されることを特徴とする請求項1または請求項2に記載の内燃機関の排気装置。
- 前記連結排気管(44)とは、分離した前記膨張室(E2,E3)と前記別の膨張室(E1)とを連結する別の連結排気管(47)を有し、
前記下流側排ガスセンサ(56)は、少なくとも一部が側面視で前記別の連結排気管(47)の車幅方向内側に重なることを特徴とする請求項3に記載の内燃機関の排気装置。 - 前記下流側排ガスセンサ(56)は、車幅方向内側に傾斜して前記排気管(44)に取り付けられることを特徴とする請求項1ないし請求項4のいずれか1項に記載の内燃機関の排気装置。
- 前記下流側排ガスセンサ(56)は、前記消音器(50)の車幅方向外側に被せられるマフラーカバー(53)の車幅方向内側に配置されることを特徴とする請求項1ないし請求項5のいずれか1項に記載の内燃機関の排気装置。
- 前記下流側排ガスセンサ(56)は、前記マフラーカバー(53)によって上側を覆われることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の内燃機関の排気装置。
- 前記膨張室(F1)から外部に延出した連結排気管(74)は、同膨張室(F1)に接続されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の内燃機関の排気装置。
- 前記触媒(72)は、前記膨張室(F1)内に配置されることを特徴とする請求項8に記載の内燃機関の排気装置。
- 前記下流側排ガスセンサ(86)は、前記膨張室(F1)から外部に延出した連結排気管(74)の同膨張室(F1)との上流側接合部(74b)の近傍に配置されることを特徴とする請求項9に記載の内燃機関の排気装置。
- 前記膨張室(F1)は、前記触媒(72)の下流端の近傍にまで凹出した凹部(81v)を有し、
前記連結排気管(74)は、前記膨張室(F1)から前記凹部(81v)に延出し、
前記下流側排ガスセンサ(86)は、その前記連結排気管(74)への取付部が前記凹部(81v)内に位置することを特徴とする請求項10に記載の内燃機関の排気装置。 - 前記膨張室(F1)は、前記内燃機関(61)の下方に配置され、
前記膨張室(F1)と下流側連結排気管(75)により接続された別の膨張室(F2,F3)を有し、 前記下流側排ガスセンサ(86)は、前記別の膨張室(F2,F3)または前記下流側連結排気管(75)の車幅方向内側に配置されることを特徴とする請求項8ないし請求項11のいずれか1項に記載の内燃機関の排気装置。
