Description
本発明は、インク吸収体に関する。
インクジェットプリンターでは、通常、インクの目詰まりによる印刷品質の低下を防止するために実施されるヘッドクリーニング動作や、インクカートリッジ交換後のインク充填動作の際に、廃インクが発生する。そこで、このような廃インクがプリンター内部の機構等に対する不本意な付着が生じないようにするために、廃インクを吸収する液体吸収体(インク吸収体)を備えている。
従来、液体吸収体(インク吸収体)としては、天然セルロース繊維および/または合成繊維と、熱融着性物質とを含むものが用いられてきた(例えば、特許文献1参照)。
しかしながら、従来の液体吸収体(インク吸収体)では、インクの浸透性に劣り、速やかに廃インクを吸収できないため、例えば、インク吸収体を収容する容器が転倒した場合に、インクが漏出するという問題があった。
本発明の目的は、インク吸収体を収容する容器が転倒した場合であっても、インクの漏出を効果的に防止することができるインク吸収体を提供することにある。
このような目的は、下記の本発明により達成される。
本発明のインク吸収体は、インクの吸収に用いられ、吸水性樹脂を含むインク吸収体であって、
0.24gのインク吸収体に対して、12gの割合でインクを加えた混合物において、前記混合物の調製から25分経過した時点における音叉型振動式粘度計を用いて測定した粘度が、5Pa・s以上100Pa・s以下であることを特徴とする。

これにより、繊維に前述した吸水性樹脂を好適に担持させることができ、インク吸収体を収容する容器からの吸水性樹脂の漏出をより好適に防止することができる。また、インク吸収体にインクが付与された場合に、当該インクを繊維がいったん保持し、その後、吸水性樹脂により効率よく送り込むことができ、インク吸収体全体としてのインクの吸収特性を向上させることができる。また、インク吸水体の製造コストの低減の観点からも有利である。
本発明のインク吸収体では、前記繊維は、セルロース繊維であることが好ましい。
これにより、インク吸収体にインクが付与された場合に、流動性が特に高い状態を速やかに脱することができるとともに、いったんセルロース繊維が取り込んだインクを、好適に吸水性樹脂に送り込むことができる。その結果、インク吸収体全体としてのインクの吸収特性を特に優れたものとすることができる。また、セルロースは、一般に吸水性樹脂との親和性が高いため、繊維の表面に吸水性樹脂をより好適に担持させることができる。
これにより、インク吸収体にインクが付与された場合に、流動性が特に高い状態を速やかに脱することができるとともに、いったんセルロース繊維が取り込んだインクを、好適に吸水性樹脂に送り込むことができる。その結果、インク吸収体全体としてのインクの吸収特性を特に優れたものとすることができる。また、セルロースは、一般に吸水性樹脂との親和性が高いため、繊維の表面に吸水性樹脂をより好適に担持させることができる。
本発明のインク吸収体では、前記繊維100gに対して、前記吸水性樹脂が5g超90g以下の割合で混合されていることが好ましい。
これにより、吸水性樹脂を含むことによる効果を十分に発揮させつつ、繊維を含むことによる効果をより顕著に発揮させることができる。
本発明のインク吸収体では、前記吸水性樹脂は、粒子状をなしていることが好ましい。

[インク吸収体]
本発明のインク吸収体は、インクの吸収に用いるものであり、吸水性樹脂を含んでいる。そして、0.24gのインク吸収体に対して、インク(水性インク)を12gの割合で加えた混合物について、前記混合物の調製から25分経過した時点における音叉型振動式粘度計を用いて測定した粘度(以下、「25分後粘度」とも言う。)が5Pa・s以上100Pa・s以下である。
本発明のインク吸収体は、インクの吸収に用いるものであり、吸水性樹脂を含んでいる。そして、0.24gのインク吸収体に対して、インク(水性インク)を12gの割合で加えた混合物について、前記混合物の調製から25分経過した時点における音叉型振動式粘度計を用いて測定した粘度(以下、「25分後粘度」とも言う。)が5Pa・s以上100Pa・s以下である。
このような条件を満足することにより、比較的短時間でインクを好適に吸収して、インク吸収体を収容する容器が転倒した場合であっても、インクの漏出を効果的に防止することができるインク吸収体を提供することができる。
また、インク吸収体の量に対する吸収させるべきインク量(比率)が比較的大きい場合であっても、好適にインクを吸収することができ、インク吸収体を備える装置が大型化することを効果的に防止しつつ、上記のような効果を長期間にわたって安定的に発揮することができる。また、インク吸収体の交換の頻度を少なくすることができるため、インク吸収体を備える装置の保守管理が容易となる。
また、従来においては、インク吸収体の体積(インク吸収体に吸収させる許容インク吸収量)が大きい場合(例えば、インク吸収体に吸収させる許容インク吸収量が1000cm3以上4000cm3以下である装置)やインク吸収体の高さが大きい場合に、インク吸収体の表面に、顔料等のインク中に含まれる固形分の被膜が形成され、インク吸収体の内部にインクが十分に浸透せずに、インク吸収体の全体をインクの吸収に効率よく利用することができないという問題があったが、本発明によれば、インク吸収体の体積(インク吸収体に吸収させる許容インク吸収量)が比較的大きい装置等にも好適に適用することができる。
また、上記のようなインクを用いて測定される25分後粘度が、所定の条件を満足することにより、各種の水性ジェット(ラテックスインクを含む)を用いた場合に、上述したような優れた効果が得られる。
これに対し、25分後粘度が前記下限値未満であると、インクを付与されたインク吸収体は、長時間にわたって流動性が高い状態を維持し、インク吸収体を収容する容器が転倒した場合に、インクの漏出が生じやすくなる。
また、25分後粘度が前記上限値を超えると、インク吸収体にインクを付与した場合に、インク吸収体の表面に、インク中に含まれる固形分の被膜が形成されやすく、インク吸収体の内部にインクが十分に浸透しにくくなる。その結果、インク吸収体を収容する容器が転倒した場合に、インクの漏出が生じやすくなる。
上記のように、25分後粘度は、5Pa・s以上100Pa・s以下であればよいが、6Pa・s以上60Pa・s以下であるのが好ましく、7Pa・s以上40Pa・s以下であるのがより好ましく、8Pa・s以上25Pa・s以下であるのがさらに好ましい。
これにより、上記のような効果がより顕著に発揮される。

なお、本発明において、粘度とは、特に断りのない限り、26℃での粘度(絶対粘度)のことを指す。
また、25分後粘度や、後述する5Pa・s到達時間は、例えば、インク吸収体の構成材料の組成や、吸水性樹脂の粒径等の各種条件を調整することにより、好適に調整することができる。
25分後粘度のより具体的な測定条件は、以下に詳述するものとすることができる。
すなわち、25分後粘度の測定時におけるインクの使用量を12gとし、インク吸収体の使用量を0.24gとすることができる。

また、25分後粘度の測定には、インクとして、セイコーエプソン社製のインクジェットプリンター用インクである、粘度が5mPa・sのICBK-61を用いることができる。
また、25分後粘度の測定時の温度は、26℃±1℃とすることができる。
また、音叉型振動式粘度計及び容器としては、エー・アンド・デイ社製のSV-Aシリーズ(例えば、SV-100H,容器としては型式AX-SV-35 ガラス容器容量<ホウケイ酸ガラス 約13mL>)を用いることができる。

0.24gのインク吸収体に対して、粘度が5mPa・sのインクを12g加えた混合物について、音叉型振動式粘度計を用いて粘度を測定した場合における、前記混合物の粘度が5Pa・sとなるまでの時間(前記混合物の調製からの時間。以下、「5Pa・s到達時間」とも言う。)は、1分以上20分以下であるのが好ましく、2分以上15分以下であるのがより好ましく、3分以上10分以下であるのがさらに好ましい。
これにより、比較的短時間でインクを好適に吸収して、インク吸収体を収容する容器が転倒した場合であっても、インクの漏出をより効果的に防止することができる。
また、インク吸収体の量に対する吸収させるべきインク量(比率)が比較的大きい場合であっても、好適にインクを吸収することができる。
また、インク吸収体の体積(インク吸収体に吸収させる許容インク吸収量)が比較的大きい装置等にも好適に適用することができる。
これに対し、5Pa・s到達時間が前記下限値未満であると、インク吸収体へのインクの付与量等によっては、インク吸収体の表面に、インク中に含まれる固形分の被膜が形成されやすく、インク吸収体の内部にインクが十分に浸透しにくくなる可能性がある。
また、5Pa・s到達時間が前記上限値を超えると、インク吸収体へのインクの付与量等によっては、インクを付与されたインク吸収体の流動性が十分に低下するのに要する時間が長くなる傾向を示す。
なお、5Pa・s到達時間のより具体的な測定条件としては、前述した25分後粘度の測定条件と同様とすることができる。
以下、本発明のインク吸収体の構成材料について説明する。
<吸水性樹脂>
インク吸収体の構成成分である吸水性樹脂は、吸水性を有する樹脂であればよく、特に限定されないが、例えば、カルボキシメチルセルロース、ポリアクリル酸、ポリアクリルアミド、澱粉-アクリル酸グラフト共重合体、澱粉-アクリロニトリルグラフト共重合体の加水分解物、酢酸ビニル-アクリル酸エステル共重合体、イソブチレンとマレイン酸との共重合体等、アクリロニトリル共重合体やアクリルアミド共重合体の加水分解物、ポリエチレンオキサイド、ポリスルフォン酸系化合物、ポリグルタミン酸や、これらの塩(中和物)、架橋体等が挙げられる。ここで、吸水性とは、親水性を有し、水分を保持する機能を言う。吸水性樹脂には、吸水するとゲル化するものが多い。
<吸水性樹脂>
インク吸収体の構成成分である吸水性樹脂は、吸水性を有する樹脂であればよく、特に限定されないが、例えば、カルボキシメチルセルロース、ポリアクリル酸、ポリアクリルアミド、澱粉-アクリル酸グラフト共重合体、澱粉-アクリロニトリルグラフト共重合体の加水分解物、酢酸ビニル-アクリル酸エステル共重合体、イソブチレンとマレイン酸との共重合体等、アクリロニトリル共重合体やアクリルアミド共重合体の加水分解物、ポリエチレンオキサイド、ポリスルフォン酸系化合物、ポリグルタミン酸や、これらの塩(中和物)、架橋体等が挙げられる。ここで、吸水性とは、親水性を有し、水分を保持する機能を言う。吸水性樹脂には、吸水するとゲル化するものが多い。
中でも、吸水性樹脂は、側鎖に官能基を有する樹脂が好ましい。官能基としては、例えば、酸基、ヒドロキシル基、エポキシ基、アミノ基等が挙げられる。
特に、吸水性樹脂は、側鎖に酸基を有する樹脂であるのが好ましく、側鎖にカルボキシル基を有する樹脂であるのがより好ましい。
吸水性樹脂を構成するカルボキシル基含有単位としては、例えば、アクリル酸、メタアクリル酸、イタコン酸、マレイン酸、クロトン酸、フマル酸、ソルビン酸、ケイ皮酸やこれらの無水物、塩等の単量体から誘導されるものが挙げられる。
インク吸収体が側鎖に酸基を有する吸水性樹脂を含む場合、当該吸水性樹脂中に含まれる酸基のうち中和されて塩を形成しているものの割合は、30mol%以上100mol%以下であるのが好ましく、50mol%以上95mol%以下であるのがより好ましく、60mol%以上90mol%以下であるのがさらに好ましく、70mol%以上80mol%以下であるのがもっとも好ましい。
これにより、インク吸収体によるインクの吸収性をより優れたものとすることができる。
中和の塩の種類は、特に限定されず、例えば、ナトリウム塩、カリウム塩、リチウム塩等のアルカリ金属塩、アンモニア等の含窒素塩基性物の塩等が挙げられるが、ナトリウム塩が好ましい。
これにより、インク吸収体によるインクの吸収性をより優れたものとすることができる。
側鎖に酸基を有する吸水性樹脂は、インク吸収時に酸基同士の静電反発が起こり、吸収速度が速くなるため好ましい。また、酸基が中和されていると、浸透圧によりインクが吸水性樹脂内部に吸収されやすくなる。
吸水性樹脂は、酸基を含有していない構成単位を有していてもよく、このような構成単位としては、例えば、親水性の構成単位、疎水性の構成単位、重合性架橋剤となる構成単位等が挙げられる。
前記親水性の構成単位としては、例えば、アクリルアミド、メタアクリルアミド、N-エチル(メタ)アクリルアミド、N-n-プロピル(メタ)アクリルアミド、N-イソプロピル(メタ)アクリルアミド、N,N-ジメチル(メタ)アクリルアミド、2-ヒドロキシエチル(メタ)アクリレート、2-ヒドロキシプロピル(メタ)アクリレート、メトキシポリエチレングリコール(メタ)アクレリート、ポリエチレングリコールモノ(メタ)アクリレート、N-ビニルピロリドン、N-アクリロイルピペリジン、N-アクリロイルピロリジン等のノニオン性化合物から誘導される構成単位等が挙げられる。
前記疎水性の構成単位としては、例えば、(メタ)アクリルニトリル、スチレン、塩化ビニル、ブタジエン、イソブテン、エチレン、プロピレン、ステアリル(メタ)アクリレート、ラウリル(メタ)アクリレート等の化合物から誘導される構成単位等が挙げられる。
前記重合性架橋剤となる構成単位としては、例えば、ジエチレングリコールジアクリレート、N,N’-メチレンビスアクリルアミド、ポリエチレングリコールジアクリレート、ポリプロピレングリコールジアクリレート、トリメチロールプロパンジアリルエーテル、トリメチロールプロパントリアクリレート、アリルグリシジルエーテル、ペンタエリスリトールトリアリルエーテル、ペンタエリスリトールジアクリレートモノステアレート、ビスフェノールジアクリレート、イソシアヌル酸ジアクリレート、テトラアリルオキシエタン、ジアリルオキシ酢酸塩等から誘導される構成単位等が挙げられる。
吸水性樹脂としては、吸収性能、コスト等の観点から、ポリアクリル酸塩共重合体またはポリアクリル酸重合架橋体が好ましい。
ポリアクリル酸重合架橋体としては、分子鎖を構成する全構成単位に占めるカルボキシル基を有する構成単位の割合が、50mol%以上のものが好ましく、80mol%以上のものがより好ましく、90mol%以上のものがさらに好ましい。
カルボキシル基を含有する構成単位の割合が少なすぎると、インクの吸収性能を十分に優れたものとすることが困難になる可能性がある。
ポリアクリル酸重合架橋体中のカルボキシル基は、一部が中和(部分中和)されて塩を形成していることが好ましい。
ポリアクリル酸重合架橋体中の全カルボキシル基中に占める中和されているものの割合は、30mol%以上99mol%以下であるのが好ましく、50mol%以上99mol%以下であるのがより好ましく、70mol%以上99mol%以下であるのがさらに好ましい。
また、吸水性樹脂は、前述した重合性架橋剤以外の架橋剤で架橋した構造を有していてもよい。
吸水性樹脂が酸基を有する樹脂である場合、当該架橋剤としては、例えば、酸基と反応する官能基を複数持った化合物を好ましく用いることができる。
吸水性樹脂が酸基と反応する官能基を有する樹脂である場合には、当該架橋剤として、分子内に酸基と反応する官能基を複数個有する化合物を好適に用いることができる。
酸基と反応する官能基を複数個有する化合物(架橋剤)としては、例えば、エチレングリコールジグリシジルエーテル、トリメチロールプロパントリグリシジルエーテル、(ポリ)グリセリンポリグリシジルエーテル、ジグリセリンポリグリシジルエーテル、プロピレングリコールジグリシジルエーテル等のグリシジルエーテル化合物;(ポリ)グリセリン、(ポリ)エチレングリコール、プロピレングリコール、1,3-プロパンジオール、ポリオキシエチレングリコール、トリエチレングリコール、テトラエチレングリコール、ジエタノールアミン、トリエタノールアミン等の多価アルコール類;エチレンジアミン、ジエチレンジアミン、ポリエチレンイミン、ヘキサメチレンジアミン等の多価アミン類等が挙げられる。また、亜鉛、カルシウム、マグネシウム、アルミニウム等の多価イオン類等も、吸水性樹脂が有する酸基と反応して架橋剤として機能するため、好適に用いることができる。
インク吸収体において、吸水性樹脂は、例えば、ブロック状(塊状)、ペレット状、鱗片状、針状、繊維状、粒子状等、いかなる形状をなしていてもよい。
特に、吸水性樹脂が粒子状または繊維状をなしていると、インクの浸透性を容易に確保しつつ、インク吸収体を容器内に好適に充填することができる。また、様々な形状の容器への追従性を良好なものとすることができ、容器内に必要以上に大きい空隙が生じてしまうことを好適に防止することができる。また、インク吸収体が後に詳述するような繊維を含むものである場合に、当該繊維の表面に、吸水性樹脂を好適に担持させることができる。
前記粒子の平均粒径は、15μm以上800μm以下であるのが好ましく、15μm以上400μm以下であるのがより好ましい。
これにより、より容易に25分後粘度や5Pa・s到達時間を、好適な数値に調整することができ、前述したような効果をより確実に発揮させることができる。
これに対し、粒子の平均粒径が小さすぎると、インク吸収体の内部へのインクの浸透性が低下しやすくなる。
また、粒子の平均粒径が大きすぎると、吸水性樹脂の比表面積が小さくなり、インクの吸収特性が低下し、インクの吸収速度が低下する。
なお、本発明において、平均粒径とは、体積基準の平均粒径をいう。平均粒径は、例えば、レーザー回折・散乱法を測定原理とする粒度分布測定装置、すなわちレーザー回折式粒度分布測定装置による測定で求めることができる。
前記粒子中には、吸水性樹脂以外の成分が含まれていてもよい。このような成分としては、例えば、界面活性剤、潤滑剤、消泡剤、フィラー、ブロッキング防止剤、紫外線吸収剤等が挙げられる。
吸水性樹脂(例えば、粒子状の吸水性樹脂)は、その全体が均一な構成を有するものであってもよいし、各部位で構成が異なるものであってもよい。例えば、吸水性樹脂(例えば、粒子状の吸水性樹脂)は、表面付近の領域(例えば、表面から厚さ1μmの領域)が、他の部位に比べて、架橋度が高いものであってもよい。
これにより、インクの吸収倍率、吸収速度、吸水性樹脂の強度等をよりバランスよく向上させることができる。
また、インク吸収体が繊維を含むものである場合に、吸水性樹脂と繊維との密着性(接合強度)をより優れたものとすることができ、繊維がいったん保持したインクを吸水性樹脂により効率よく送り込むことができ、インク吸収体全体としてのインクの吸収特性をさらに向上させることができる。
本発明のインク吸収体中における吸水性樹脂の含有率(インクを吸収していない状態における含有率。以下同様。)は、20質量%以上であるのが好ましく、30質量%以上99質量%以下であるのがより好ましく、33質量%以上95質量%以下であるのがさらに好ましい。
これにより、前述したような効果がより顕著に発揮される。

<繊維>
本発明のインク吸収体は、少なくとも吸水性樹脂を含んでいればよいし、加えて吸水樹脂形状が繊維状で合っても良い。さらに、繊維(吸水性樹脂以外の材料で構成された繊維)を含んでいてもよい。

これにより、繊維に前述した吸水性樹脂を好適に担持させることができ、インク吸収体を収容する容器からの吸水性樹脂の漏出をより好適に防止することができる。また、インク吸収体にインクが付与された場合に、当該インクを繊維がいったん保持し、その後、吸水性樹脂により効率よく送り込むことができ、インク吸収体全体としてのインクの吸収特性を向上させることができる。また、一般に、セルロース繊維等の繊維(特に、古紙由来の繊維)は、前述した吸水性樹脂に比べて安価であり、インク吸水体の製造コストの低減の観点からも有利である。また、後に詳述するように、繊維としては、古紙由来のものを好適に用いることができるため、廃棄物の削減、資源の有効活用等の観点からも有利である。
繊維としては、例えば、ポリエステル繊維、ポリアミド繊維等の合成樹脂繊維;セルロース繊維、ケラチン繊維、フィブロイン繊維等の天然樹脂繊維やその化学修飾物等が挙げられ、これらを単独でまたは適宜混合して用いることができるが、セルロース繊維を主とする(例えば、70質量%以上含む)のが好ましく、ほぼ全部がセルロース繊維であるのがより好ましい。
セルロースは、好適な親水性を有する材料であるため、インク吸収体にインクが付与された場合に、当該インクを好適に取り込むことができ、流動性が特に高い状態(例えば、粘度が10mPa・s以下の状態)を速やかに脱することができるとともに、いったん取り込んだインクを、好適に吸水性樹脂に送り込むことができる。その結果、インク吸収体全体としてのインクの吸収特性を特に優れたものとすることができる。また、セルロースは、一般に吸水性樹脂との親和性が高いため、繊維の表面に吸水性樹脂をより好適に担持させることができる。また、セルロース繊維は、再生可能な天然素材で、各種繊維の中でも、安価で入手が容易であるため、インク吸収体の生産コストの低減、安定的な生産、環境負荷の低減等の観点からも有利である。
なお、本明細書において、セルロース繊維とは、化合物としてのセルロース(狭義のセルロース)を主成分とし繊維状をなすものであればよく、セルロース(狭義のセルロース)の他に、ヘミセルロース、リグニンを含むものであってもよい。
インク吸収体が繊維を含んでいる場合、インク吸収体に含まれる繊維は、1本であってもよいし、複数本であってもよい。
また、インク吸収体においては、例えば、複数本の繊維が独立して存在していてもよい。また、インク吸収体中において、繊維は、例えば、綿状で含まれていてもよい。また、繊維は、例えば、シート状、短冊状、小片状等に成形されたものであってもよい。
インク吸収体中において、繊維は、その表面に吸水性樹脂を担持しているのが好ましい。
これにより、インク吸収体を収容する容器からの吸水性樹脂の漏出をより好適に防止することができる。また、インク吸収体にインクが付与された場合に、当該インクを繊維がいったん保持し、その後、吸水性樹脂により効率よく送り込むことができ、インク吸収体全体としてのインクの吸収特性を向上させることができる。
繊維の原料としては、例えば、古紙を用いてもよい。
これにより、前述したような効果が得られるとともに、省資源の観点からも好ましい。

繊維の原料として古紙を用いる場合、当該古紙は、そのまま用いてもよいし、破砕処理を施した破砕物や、解繊処理を施した解繊物を用いてもよい。
繊維の平均長さは、特に限定されないが、0.1mm以上7mm以下であるのが好ましく、0.1mm以上5mm以下であるのがより好ましく、0.2mm以上3mm以下であるのがさらに好ましい。
これにより、吸水性樹脂の担持や、繊維によるインクの保持・当該インクの吸水性樹脂への送り込みをより好適に行うことができ、インク吸収体全体としてのインクの吸収特性をより優れたものとすることができる。
繊維の平均幅(径)は、特に限定されないが、0.5μm以上200μm以下であるのが好ましく、1.0μm以上100μm以下であるのがより好ましい。
これにより、吸水性樹脂の担持や、繊維によるインクの保持・当該インクの吸水性樹脂への送り込みをより好適に行うことができ、インク吸収体全体としてのインクの吸収特性をより優れたものとすることができる。
繊維の平均アスペクト比(平均幅に対する平均長さの比率)は、特に限定されないが、10以上1000以下であるのが好ましく、15以上500以下であるのがより好ましい。
これにより、吸水性樹脂の担持や、繊維によるインクの保持・当該インクの吸水性樹脂への送り込みをより好適に行うことができ、インク吸収体全体としてのインクの吸収特性をより優れたものとすることができる。
また、吸水性樹脂が粒子状をなす場合、吸水性樹脂の平均粒径をD[μm]、繊維の平均長さをL[μm]としたときに、0.15≦L/D≦467の関係を満足するのが好ましく、0.25≦L/D≦333の関係を満足するのがより好ましく、2≦L/D≦200の関係を満足するのがさらに好ましい。
これにより、吸水性樹脂の担持や、繊維によるインクの保持・当該インクの吸水性樹脂への送り込みをより好適に行うことができ、インク吸収体全体としてのインクの吸収特性をより優れたものとすることができる。
本発明のインク吸収体中における繊維の含有率は、0.5質量%以上80質量%以下であるのが好ましく、1.0質量%以上70質量%以下であるのがより好ましく、3.0質量%以上67質量%以下であるのがさらに好ましい。
これにより、前述したような吸水性樹脂を含むことによる効果を十分に発揮させつつ、繊維を含むことによる効果をより顕著に発揮させることができる。
吸水性樹脂の含有率は、繊維に対し、5重量%よりも大きく、90重量%以下であれば、本発明の効果を得ることができるが、繊維に対し、20重量%以上、70重量%以下であるのが好ましく、繊維に対し、40重量%以上55重量%以下の範囲であるのがさらに好ましい。
これにより、前述したような吸水性樹脂を含むことによる効果を十分に発揮させつつ、繊維を含むことによる効果をより顕著に発揮させることができる。
<その他の成分>
インク吸収体は、前述した以外の成分(その他の成分)を含んでいてもよい。

このような成分としては、例えば、界面活性剤、潤滑剤、消泡剤、フィラー、ブロッキング防止剤、紫外線吸収剤、顔料、染料等の着色剤、難燃剤、流動性向上剤等が挙げられる。
インク吸収体中におけるその他の成分の含有率は、10質量%以下であるのが好ましく、5.0質量%以下であるのがより好ましい。
本発明のインク吸収体は、インクを吸収する機能を有するものであればよく、例えば、インクの目詰まりによる印刷品質の低下を防止するために実施されるヘッドクリーニング動作や、インクカートリッジ交換後のインク充填動作の際に発生する廃インクを吸収するものや、印刷装置の流路から漏れ出たインクの吸収に用いるもの等が挙げられる。
以上、本発明の好適な実施形態について説明したが、本発明は、上記のものに限定されるものではない。
次に、本発明の具体的実施例について説明する。
[1]インク吸収体の製造
(実施例1)
まず、側鎖に酸基としてのカルボキシル基を有する樹脂(吸水性樹脂)であるポリアクリル酸重合架橋体(部分ナトリウム塩架橋物)としてのサンフレッシュ ST-250*(三洋化成工業社製)を用意した。

(実施例1)
まず、側鎖に酸基としてのカルボキシル基を有する樹脂(吸水性樹脂)であるポリアクリル酸重合架橋体(部分ナトリウム塩架橋物)としてのサンフレッシュ ST-250*(三洋化成工業社製)を用意した。
次に、このサンフレッシュ ST-250*に対して粒度調整を施し、平均粒径350μmの粉末を吸水性樹脂として得た。
このようにして得られた吸水性樹脂(粒度調整したもの)をインク吸収体とした。

(実施例2)
まず、前記実施例1と同様にして、粒度調整を施した平均粒径350μmの粉末としての吸水性樹脂を得た。

一方、別途用意したセルロース繊維として古紙の破砕物:200質量部全体に対し、上記吸水性樹脂:100質量部と混合し、霧吹きで水を噴霧した後、その後、50℃×24時間の乾燥処理を施して、インク吸収体を得た。なお、繊維の平均長さは2mm、平均幅は50μm、アスペクト比(平均長さ/平均幅)は20であった。
このようにして得られたインク吸収体においては、吸水性樹脂が繊維(古紙の破砕物)の表面に担持されていた。
(実施例3)
吸水性樹脂と繊維との混合比を表1に示すように変更した以外は、前記実施例2と同様にしてインク吸収体を製造した。

各実施例のインク吸収体の条件を表1にまとめて示す。また、表1には、前記各実施例のインク吸収体についての25分後粘度および5Pa・s到達時間をあわせて示した。
25分後粘度および5Pa・s到達時間の詳細な測定条件は、以下の通りとした。
すなわち、25分後粘度および5Pa・s到達時間の測定時におけるインクの使用量を12gとし、インク吸収体の使用量を0.24gとした。

また、25分後粘度および5Pa・s到達時間の測定には、インクとして、セイコーエプソン社製のインクジェットプリンター用インクであるICBK-61を用いた。
また、25分後粘度および5Pa・s到達時間の測定時の温度は、26℃±1℃とした。
また、25分後粘度および5Pa・s到達時間の測定に用いる、音叉型振動式粘度計としては、エー・アンド・デイ社製のSV-100Hを用いた。容器(インク吸収体、インクを収容する容器)としては、同社型式AX-SV-35 ガラス容器(ホウケイ酸ガラス 約13mL)を用いた。
また、測定時における振動子の振動数は30Hzとし、測定時における振動子の振幅は1mm以下とした。
[2]漏出防止効果の評価
前述した25分後粘度および5Pa・s到達時間の測定と同様の条件で実験を行い、粘度が、4.5Pa・sに到達した直後に粘度の測定を中止し、直ちに、計測器から外し容器を90°倒置してインクの流出の確認の有無を確認した。

これらの結果を、表2にまとめて示す。

その結果、表2に示すように、前記各実施例では、5Pa・s到達時においてもインクの流出がないことが確認できた。
実施例1について、4.5Pa・s到達直後に容器を90°倒置した様子を図1に示す。また、実施例1について、5Pa・s到達直後に容器を90°倒置した様子を図2に示す。
以上より、古紙パルプを用いる事で環境に配慮した、リサイクルを実現しつつ高分子吸収体との混合によりインク廃液の倒置時の漏液防止5Pa・s以上を実現できる事が判った。
なお、実施例1、2のインク吸収体について、0.24gのインク吸収体を12gのインクと混合してからの経過時間と、インクと混合してからの経過時間と、インク吸収体とインクとの混合物の粘度との関係を図3に示す。
Claims (6)
- インクの吸収に用いられ、吸水性樹脂を含むインク吸収体であって、
0.24gのインク吸収体に対して、12gの割合でインクを加えた混合物において、前記混合物の調製から25分経過した時点における音叉型振動式粘度計を用いて測定した粘度が、5Pa・s以上100Pa・s以下であることを特徴とするインク吸収体。 - 前記吸水性樹脂に加え、繊維を含んでいる請求項1に記載のインク吸収体。
- 前記繊維は、セルロース繊維である請求項2に記載のインク吸収体。
- 前記繊維100gに対して、前記吸水性樹脂が5g超90g以下の割合で混合されている請求項2または3に記載のインク吸収体。
- 前記吸水性樹脂は、粒子状をなしている請求項1ないし4のいずれか1項に記載のインク吸収体。
- 前記吸水性樹脂は、繊維状をなしている請求項1ないし4のいずれか1項に記載のインク吸収体。
