Definitions

  • the invention relates to a protective clothing comprising airbags or airbags, which a user can position around his waist and legs to secure the practice of a dangerous activity such as the motorcycle, the ski, or the horse riding.
  • protective clothing equipped with airbags or airbags used for example to protect themselves during the practice of motorcycle or skiing.
  • protective vests have been developed, comprising at least one airbag on the front and another on the back, to allow to secure the thorax of a user.
  • document US5091992 discloses protective equipment made of inflatable protection strips, which can be threaded over the outfit of a user. Given the large number of protection strips to be positioned, it is likely that the time required for a user to put on this equipment as long as the pants described above, and deter its use.
  • the object of the invention is to overcome at least in part the disadvantages of the prior art.
  • an object of the invention is to provide a protective clothing that is simple and quick to put on, and which has improved protection of the user.
  • this garment While remaining aesthetic, this garment must be able to be donned and removed quickly and easily over a street suit to allow to keep an original outfit specific to the day's activities, and to be worn only during the practice of the so-called "at risk” activity.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide a protective clothing comprising airbags adapted to protect the user without causing any risk of accidents in case of inadvertent tripping of their inflation.
  • the subject of the invention is a protective clothing comprising:
  • a belt adapted to be positioned around the waist of a user
  • each leg comprising an upper portion to be wrapped around a thigh of the user, a lower portion to be wrapped around a calf of the user, and an intermediate portion interconnecting portions upper and lower,
  • a triggering device adapted to trigger inflation of the cushions
  • each leg has a notch adapted to come opposite the front of the knee of the user when the leg is in position around his leg
  • each leg each comprise at least one airbag disposed adjacent the notch of the intermediate portion.
  • the protective garment according to the invention further comprises at least one of the following characteristics:
  • Each airbag can be adapted to present, once inflated, a thickness of between 3 and 6 cm.
  • each leg may comprise an additional airbag disposed opposite the first relative to the first when the leg is in position around the leg of the user.
  • each leg can comprise an additional airbag positioned at a distance from the first, so as to be on the outer side of the thigh of the user when the leg is in position around the leg of the user,
  • the additional airbag of the upper portion of each leg can be adapted to have, when inflated, a thickness of between 3 and 8 cm.
  • each leg may comprise a fastening device selected from the group consisting of: velvet-hook strips, and several press-button rows
  • the triggering device may comprise a compressed air cartridge; feeding the cushions connecting the cushions to the cartridge, and a control unit adapted to control the opening of the compressed air cartridge.

  • the garment may have a notch adapted to come opposite the crotch of the user when the garment is in position on the user.
  • the invention also relates to the use of a protective clothing as described above in the practice of motorcycling, skiing, parachute jumping or riding.
  • the protective garment according to the invention has a structure that allows it to be put easily and quickly by a user, by winding the upper and lower portions of each leg around respectively his thigh and his calf. In particular, it is not necessary to put it on by the foot, nor to have to remove his shoe.
  • the protection of the knee is provided by the airbags located on either side of the notch of each leg. Once the cushions inflated, the knee is at the bottom of a recess bounded by the cushions, which ensures its protection.
  • the lack of airbag at the knee allows, in case of untimely triggering of the cushions, not to reduce the mobility of the knee and therefore not to create stiffness that could cause accidents.
  • the other airbags are advantageously positioned on the areas most likely to be touched in an accident, namely the back of the calf and a zone located at the rear, and on the outer side of the thigh.
  • the inflated thickness of the latter cushion is adapted to not prevent to bend at least part of the leg.
  • FIG. 1 diagrammatically represents an example of protective clothing according to one embodiment of the invention, positioned on a user
  • FIG. 2 diagrammatically represents an example of a protective garment according to one embodiment of the invention, in the deployed position;
  • FIG. 3 schematically represents the protection of the knee of a user once the inflated cushions,
  • Figures 4a to 4c schematically show several embodiments of a device for triggering the cushions.
  • a protective clothing 1 which can be used to secure a user for example in the practice of two-wheelers, including the motorcycle, and also in the practice of riding, riding. skiing or other sports, or skydiving.
  • This protective clothing 1 takes the form of pants, or more precisely an over-pants, that is to say, it is preferably put on top of a user's pants.
  • the protective garment 1 comprises a belt 10 adapted to surround the waist of a user U, and two leggings 20 connected to the belt 10.
  • Each leg is adapted to surround the leg of a user, and includes in particular an upper portion. 21 adapted to be wrapped around the thigh, and a lower portion 22, adapted to be wrapped around the calf of the user.
  • each leg 20 thus take the form of strips that can be wound around the leg and closed by means of a closure device 29 located at the opposite ends of the leg. gang. This makes it possible to position the garment on the user more easily than if it were to be threaded by the feet.
  • the belt 10 is preferably adapted to be closed around the waist of the user, and thus also has a band shape provided at its opposite ends with a closure device 29.
  • the belt and the leggings are preferably formed of a textile material having a high resistance to abrasion, as is the case, for example, of polyester fiber textiles marketed under the trade names Tergal, Dacron, Mylar (for example polyester 600 denier, the denier being the weight in grams of a length of 9 meters of fabric yarn), or polyamide fiber textiles marketed under the names of Nylon or Tenax, the textile being preferably coated with a coating making it impervious, for example silicone.
  • a textile material having a high resistance to abrasion as is the case, for example, of polyester fiber textiles marketed under the trade names Tergal, Dacron, Mylar (for example polyester 600 denier, the denier being the weight in grams of a length of 9 meters of fabric yarn), or polyamide fiber textiles marketed under the names of Nylon or Tenax, the textile being preferably coated with a coating making it impervious, for example silicone.
  • each lower leg is interconnected by an intermediate portion 23, typically strip-shaped.
  • This intermediate portion 23 is shaped so that the leg has a notch 24 vis-à-vis the front face of the knee of the user once the leg 20 in position on the leg of the user.
  • the band 23 then comes to be positioned at the rear of the knee joint.
  • each leg 20 is integrally connected to the belt 10 by a band 25 which is shaped so that the garment 1 has a notch 26 opposite the crotch of the user.
  • the garment 1 further comprises a plurality of airbags 30, also known under the anglicism "airbag", and a trigger system 40 (shown in Figures 3, 4a and 4b) of the airbags adapted to trigger inflation of the cushions under predetermined circumstances.
  • a trigger system 40 shown in Figures 3, 4a and 4b of the airbags adapted to trigger inflation of the cushions under predetermined circumstances.
  • the airbags 30 are judiciously positioned to allow the protection of the knees of the users.
  • the upper portion 21 and the lower portion 22 of each leg each comprise an airbag 30 disposed adjacent to the notch 24, two cushions 30 are therefore on either side of the notch.
  • these cushions are sized so that when inflated, their thickness is at least 3 cm.
  • the knee is in a recess of at least 3 cm deep delimited by the cushions once inflated, corresponding to the thickness of the cushion plus the thickness of the leg of the garment. This recess allows to move the knee away from an impact surface.
  • the thickness of the cushions when inflated is preferably less than 8 cm to prevent an inadvertent triggering generates a loss of control of the vehicle (for example in the case of a side impact triggering a side cushion, and after which the driver manages to regain control of the vehicle).
  • each leg preferably includes two other airbags.
  • An airbag 30 is located on the lower portion 22 of each leg 20, being positioned to cover, and thus protect, the back of the user's calf when wearing the garment. It is understood that the distance between the two cushions 30 of the lower portion 22 of the leg to achieve this result depends on the size of the user and therefore the size of the garment. In a manner known per se, it will be possible to propose a garment having a plurality of standardized sizes to correspond to people of varied statures.
  • Another airbag 30 is located on the upper portion 21 of each leg 20, being positioned to cover, and thus protect, an area on the outer side of the thigh. More specifically this cushion covers preferably an area disposed on the quarter of the circumference of the thigh defined between the right and the back of the user. Thus this cushion is shifted outwardly relative to the back of the thigh, so as to optimally protect users of two-wheelers. Indeed, it is this area, not the back of the thigh, which is mainly affected in case of accident.
  • this cushion 30 is shaped so as to have a thickness, when inflated, between 3 and 8 cm. Indeed, the thickness must exceed a minimum thickness to ensure the protection of the thigh, but must not exceed a maximum thickness beyond which the user would be embarrassed to bend his leg, given the position of this cushion.
  • the air bag release system 40 comprises a compressed air cartridge 41, which is advantageously positioned in a pocket of the belt which is accessible to the user, but which preferably can be closed to prevent the cartridge from coming out.
  • the triggering system 40 further comprises a supply circuit 42 of the cushions 30, connecting the cartridge 41 to each of the cushions.
  • the trigger system 40 comprises a control unit 43, adapted to control the opening of the compressed air cartridge so that it swells the cushions.
  • This control unit advantageously comprises a computer (not shown) of the processor, microprocessor or microcontroller type.
  • the triggering system further comprises one or more sensors 44, which may comprise one or more speed sensors and one or more accelerometers.
  • the control unit 43 is then connected to the sensors and adapted to control the inflation of the cushions in the event of a deceleration greater than a predetermined threshold, combined or not with an initial speed before the deceleration greater than another threshold.
  • the vehicle may also comprise a speed sensor to which the control unit is connected, advantageously by a wireless connection type Bluetooth.
  • the control unit can then inflate the air bags when the difference between the speed of the vehicle and the speed of the garment exceeds a predetermined threshold.
  • the garment in the case of use of the garment during two-wheel traffic, may comprise a connection cable 45 to the vehicle which is connected to the control unit.
  • the control unit may trigger the release of the airbags.
  • the garment 1 can be used with a protective vest, itself equipped with airbags and a trigger system.
  • the control unit 43 is advantageously connected to the triggering system of the vest by a connection interface 46, preferably wireframe, and receives from said system the instructions for triggering the inflation of the cushions.
  • each closure device 29 of the leggings advantageously make it possible to accommodate a small variation in the length of the textile band forming these leggings, without opening.
  • each closure device preferably comprises velvet-hook strips at the ends of each strip and adapted to come face to each other.
  • each closure device may comprise several rows of snaps, so that some may detach during inflation.
  • the structure of the garment coupled with the arrangement of the cushions, thus allows optimum protection for the user, including in case of unexpected triggering of the cushions.
  • the notches can be widened by minimizing the parts of clothing so as to also allow the scooters users to equip this protective clothing by minimizing the clutter it induces.
