- the element 4 comprises a main portion 40 substantially covering the palm and a side portion 41 extending to the level of one second junction 36 between the palm portion and the back portion of the flexible body. This junction 36 is arranged opposite the cutting edge region 22 of the hand.
- the portions 40, 41 are interconnected by an articulation 42 favoring the orientation portions 40, 41 substantially along respective protection planes P1, P2 distinct forming an angle A, after tightening the device on the hand.
- the main portion 40 and the secondary portion 41 are connected by a zone weakening cross section extending substantially from the first edge transverse 34 to the second transverse edge 35 of the device.
- the articulation could be achieved in a different way as by means mechanical parts separated from the protective element.
- the joint could also be multiple in the transverse direction so as to refine the conformation of portions to the morphology of the hand.
- the clamping of the flexible body 3 is ensured by a clamping element 5.
- the clamping member includes a quick attach fastening means. he it is advantageous to have the clamping element in the region of the back of the hand for reasons of ease of handling.
- the back portion 31 includes a discontinuity formed by a first free end 37 and a second end free 38 which are interconnected by the quick-attach fastening means. The first free end 37 and the second free end 38 are interconnected by a strap / buckle assembly.
- a strap 50 is attached to one of the ends 37.
- a loop 51 is attached to the opposite end 38 to allow the return of the strap 50.
- a quick-release fastening element 53 of the Velcro type or equivalent secures the free end 52 of the strap with the back portion.
- the strap 50 is formed from a flexible and tensile-resistant material. It is preferably inextensible although a portion or the whole can be made of a material elastic allowing limited extension.
- the flexible body 3 comprises a padding 6 located under the rigid or semi-rigid element 4.
- the padding aims to absorb shock during a fall and improve the comfort of the device.
- the padding comprises at least one zone delimiting a volume closed 63 filled with a gelled incompressible material such as a material based on a silicone or polyurethane polymer.
- a gelled incompressible material such as a material based on a silicone or polyurethane polymer.
- Such padding provides an improvement very significant shock absorption in the event of a fall and in any case greater padding traditionally used for this type of device.
- the material presents a physical state whose properties lie between a liquid and a solid. It is made up of a three-dimensional network structure dispersed in one phase homogeneous liquid with interpenetration of the phases between them.
- the material is used for its large creep capacity at a given speed allowing a distribution of pressures and absorption of impact energy.
- the gel is preferably contained in an envelope formed by a hermetically sealed film such as a polyurethane film.
- the thickness of the envelope containing the gel can vary between 3 and 12 mm as required. Thickness can be chosen more important for knee protection, for example, where shocks are more violent because of the falling mass only for the protection of the hand where the mass is less.
- the combination of protective element 4 and a layer of gel 63 is an important feature of the invention. Indeed, the protective element acts as a pressure distribution plate; pressure which is then partly absorbed by the gel layer.
- the padding can also be completed with one or more layers of foam 64 protected between two layers of fabric 65, 66 superimposed.
- a thickness of a few millimeters of polyurethane or polyethylene-based foam provides good absorption complementary to the layer of gelled material.

- the gutter forms substantially two contact zones 45, 46 separated transversely on which supports the hand near the wrist.
- the fingers therefore remain raised by report to the ground.
- the effect is all the more effective the longer the gutter transversely over the rest of the protective element by a convex surface 47.
- This convex surface has the effect of bringing the hand resting on the gutter, keep the fingers raised from the ground and therefore protect them during a slip on the ground.
- the device has a geometry that takes into account in the shape of the palm of the hand.
- the first transverse edge 34 and the second transverse edge 35 flares transversely with respect to each other from the cutting edge region of the hand toward the thumb region. This flare progressive is substantially proportional to the natural widening of the palm of the hand.
- the rigid or semi-rigid element is not bound over its entire surface to the flexible body surface for reasons of fixing compatibility and flexibility of the device.
- the rigid or semi-rigid element is locally linked on the flexible body.
- the main portion 40 and the secondary portion 41 are independently linked on the flexible body so that when tightening the flexible body around the hand, the portions 40, 41 can orient and adjust to the size of the hand.
- the rigid or semi-rigid protective element is linked by bands 60, 61, 62 forming loops fixed to the flexible body and which pass through lights 67, 68, 69 formed on the edges of the protective element.
- the end of the secondary portion 41 is connected by a strip 60 on the flexible body; while the end of the main portion, wider, comprises two fixing bands 61, 62, spaced transversely.
- Loop 51 of the clamping element 5 can advantageously be connected to the free end 38 by the band 60 which thus performs a dual function.
- the band 61 for attachment of the protective element extends to form the band 50 of the clamping element 5.
- the attachment to the flexible body of the band 50, 61 can be done, preferably, by a seam 54.
- the flexible body is preferably made of material breathable such as fabrics, foams, leather, or combinations of these materials.
- material breathable such as fabrics, foams, leather, or combinations of these materials.
- the use of elastic perforated or wide mesh fabrics is preferred in non-padded areas in direct contact with the hand to promote hold and breathability, as on the back portion 31.
- the padded areas prefer soft fabrics that are less stretchy, absorbent and have a comfortable feel.
- the flexible body is preformed after making an appropriate pattern, cutting and assembly by sewing and / or gluing.
- Figure 5 shows the device in an open configuration when the strap 50 is detached from buckle 51.
- the flexible body includes a first part 70 of trapezoidal shape provided with padding and a second part 71 substantially triangular in finer textile material, preferably in fabric ventilated.
- the two parts 70, 71 are assembled at the junction line 33 in the region of the thumb opening 32.
- the first part looks like a fabric pocket. It constitutes the palm portion 30 and goes up on the sides to form part of the edges of the back portion of the hand.
- an insert corresponding to the gel layer 63 is added.
- the yoke can be placed either on the internal surface of the part 70 in contact with your hand as illustrated in figure 5, i.e.
- this yoke is, preferably connected by sewing on the flexible body.
- the foam padding is preferably extends beyond the outline of the yoke to garnish the whole of the pocket forming the part 70.
- the protective element is, in turn, made of plastic material, metallic or rubber.
- it is a plastic injected in the form such than polyurethane, polypropylene or polyamide plastic.
- Plastic can be loaded with fibers to increase its resistance. It can also be a plastic thermosetting such as epoxy or fiber reinforced polyester. He can too be an aluminum plate.
- the protective element includes holes 49 to promote ventilation and air circulation at the across the device.
- the invention may also relate to other protective accessories concerning other parts of the body.
- the device serves to protect the knee; and more specifically, the patella and head of the fibula, both of which are protruding parts particularly exposed during a fall in skating. These parts also have peculiarity of extending into different planes; the patella being substantially in the longitudinal plane I-I 'of the leg while the head of the fibula is in a plane offset on the side by an angle close to 90 degrees relative to the plane longitudinal.
- Figures 7 to 8 show in detail the knee protection device proposed as the best embodiment.
- the references to the drawings will be used to designate the same means to which is added the prefix "1".
- the device will be designated 11
- the flexible body will be designated 13
- the rigid or semi-rigid protective element will be designated 14 and so after.
- the protective element 14 which comprises two separate portions 140, 141 hinged together.
- the part principal 140 has a substantially ovoid shape and slightly domed to cover the kneecap.
- the secondary portion 141 which aims to cover the head of the fibula 7 is laterally and downwardly offset from the position of the main portion 140 on the device.
- the portions 140, 141 are interconnected by a line section 142 attenuation inclined to the plane longitudinal I-I 'of the device. The inclination can vary between 0 and 90 degrees approximately.
- the line is not necessarily perfectly straight but a certain curvature is tolerated.
- the flexible body 13 on which the protection element is fixed in three places 14 includes a first preformed portion 136 and a second preformed portion 137 extending the first vertically and which forms a rim intended to cap the upper part of the kneecap to improve the grip of the device on the knee.
- This particular geometry makes it possible to use only one clamping element 15, of preferably arranged at the base of the first preformed portion 136.
- the element of tightening is a strap of the same kind as in the preceding mode.
- the strap is designed to surround the upper calf just below the knee joint.
- the use of a single strap has many advantages. Among others, the setting up the device is made much faster. In addition, the bending of the leg at knee level does not cause any discomfort or interfere with the application of knee device as can be the case with two straps arranged on the side and other of the joint.
- the holding the device can advantageously be supplemented by an extendable band retaining rear 17 attached, preferably by sewing, on either side of the front portions 136, 137.
- the strip forms a continuous sleeve elastic provided with an upper notch 18 for the passage of the leg.
- the band includes an internal portion 19, intended to adjust in contact with the knee, covering the internal surface of the front portions 136, 137.
- the clamping element 15 formed by the strap 150 / buckle 151 / Velcro 153 assembly surrounds transversely the stretch band so as to ensure adjustment to the size of the stretch band.
- the strap 150 is preferably attached to one of the edges of the front portion; the buckle 151 being attached to the opposite portion by means of a strap portion 160 fixed on the front portion 136.
- the strap is preferably not very extensible or inextensible.
- a reinforcement yoke in traction 170 is advantageously sewn at the base of the strap portion 160 to improve its tensile strength.
- the role of the stretch band is to improve the comfort and the holding in place of the protection device.
- the strip 17 preferably comprises ventilation holes promoting the evacuation of sweat.
- a padding 16 comparable to the previous mode can also be arranged between the protective element and the flexible body to improve the absorption of shock in the event of a fall.
- the rigid or semi-rigid protective element 14 is preferably attached to the body 13 by bands 160, 161, 162 forming loops passing through lights 167, 168, 169 formed in the protective element.
- the means of connection 161, 162, 168, 169 of the main portion 140 are distinct from those 160, 167 of the secondary portion 141; which allows the portions 140, 141 to be placed in look of the projecting parts to be protected when tightening the clamping element 15.
- the portions adopt protection planes P'1, P'2 which form a certain angle A ' between them depending on the particular morphology and size of each person.
- Absorbed energy measurement tests were carried out to assess the effectiveness of the protective device of the invention comprising the padding of the invention by comparing it to a similar device comprising a padding traditional foam-based.
- the device of the invention measured consisted to a knee protection device with padding gel, thick about 10 mm, such as that described with reference to Figures 6 and 7. Then, the device was measured without padding gel. The test is based on the vertical fall of a mass of 5 kg on the device; which covers a shaped anvil hemispherical (100 mm diameter) connected to an effort sensor. The mass travels a distance of 296 mm before impact resulting in an impact speed of 2.4 m / s.
- the maximum force value undergone by the anvil is recorded after filtration of the parasitic vibrations.
- the value for a device without padding of the invention could be measured compared to approximately 30,000 N. We aknowledge therefore that the padding according to the invention provides a very significant absorption pressure peaks during an impact and therefore provides particularly protection effective.
- FIGS 9 and 10 illustrate another embodiment of the invention.
- the device comprises a flexible body 23 and an internal distribution element 24 rigid or semi-rigid hidden inside the flexible body through a pocket 233 comprising an opening 234.
- the pocket is formed by two foldable flaps 231, 232 the edges of which are connected to each other by any suitable means, preferably by sewing leaving one side free, preferably the upper side forming the opening 234 for the passage of the distribution element 24.
- the element 24 is held in place inside the pocket 234 by at least one internal flap 235 under which a portion of the element 24 is threaded.
- the flap can be part of the front flap 231 as illustrated in figure 10. It could also be attached to the rear flap 232.
- the pocket is closed by means of closure 236 of the Velcro or equivalent type, one of the functional parts is preferably carried by the flap 235; the other complementary functional part being supported on the opposite flap 232.
- the flexible shutters 231, 232 are multi-layered.
- the component front 231 includes an external textile coating 237 resistant to abrasion and a internal padding underlay 260.
- the covering 237 is advantageously a Kevlar-based textile, chosen for its tear resistance and abrasion which make it a good surface protective material.
- Underlay 260 is preferably made of foam.
- the inner layer 238 is a support layer textile forming the tensile-resistant part of the front flap. It extends to inside by flap 235.
- the rear flap 232 also comprises a support layer 239, preferably external, made of a flexible textile material having either properties moisture absorption or moisture-wicking properties (holes ventilation).
- the layer 239 is preferably extensible to be able adapt to the morphology of the knee.
- a padding layer 261, such as a foam, can be provided as a trim on the inside of the rear flap. In a mode possible, this layer is removable by simply being held in place by a second flap 262.
- yoke comprising a hermetically sealed pouch containing a gel to locally improve the absorption capacity of the device.
- the yoke can be sewn together on one of the faces of the support layers 238, 239.
- the removable element 24 is preferably made of a rigid material or semi-rigid plastic or densified foam. Good results have been obtained in choosing a foam based on preformed densified polyethylene.
