Definitions

  • This invention relates to a method for producing garment labels. It relates also to a system for producing garment labels.
  • Fabric labels applied to garments typically carry printed information such as washing instructions, fabric information, country-of-origin information, dry cleaning instructions, warranty information, size information, the merchant's logo and/or information pertaining to the garment manufacturer. It is known to provide labels in a set or array wherein front and rear sides of the labels carry the abovementioned printed information in different languages. This allows the same generic label arrays to be used on garments destined for different countries thereby obviating the need to provide a dedicated label for use in specific countries. Such label arrays are typically sewn or heat sealed at an end thereof to a garment.

After sewing the label array onto the garment 24, the individual label segments of the label array which are ultrasonically cut can be separated relatively easily. Ultrasonic cutting provides the free ends of the label segments of the label array 20 with neatly cut unfrayed edges.
