Abstract
본 발명은 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민 및 이의 제조방법에 관한 것으로, 더욱 상세하게는 폴리에틸렌이민을 녹인 용액에 하이드록시 에틸그룹을 첨가하는 알킬화반응을 수행하여 제조되는 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민 및 이의 제조방법에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민은 고온에서 안정성이 뛰어나며, 높은 이산화탄소 선택도를 가지므로 효과적인 이산화탄소의 흡착에 유용하다.
Description
본 발명은 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민 및 이의 제조방법에 관한 것으로, 더욱 상세하게는 폴리에틸렌이민을 녹인 용액에 하이드록시 에틸그룹을 첨가하는 알킬화반응을 수행하여 제조되는 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민 및 이의 제조방법에 관한 것이다.
화석연료의 사용이 급증함에 따라, 대표적인 대기 중의 온실 가스인 이산화탄소의 농도 또한 급격히 증가하고 있다. 이로 인한 홍수, 가뭄, 사막화, 생태계 변화 및 오존층 파괴 등의 기후변화는 범지구적 환경문제로 대두되고 있으며, 이에 따라 이산화탄소 배출 감축 및 저감을 위한 기술개발이 활발히 진행되고 있다. 2007년 IEA에서 발표된 전 세계 에너지 소비구조 예측에 따라 화석연료에 대한 수요가 여전히 증가할 것으로 전망되고 있는 가운데, 화석연료를 대체할 수 있는 신재생에너지 개발이 기후변화 문제를 풀 수 있는 직접적인 해결책인 것은 사실이지만, 경제적이고 실용성 있는 신재생에너지가 개발될 때까지, 안정적인 화석 연료 사용을 위해서는 이산화탄소 포집 및 저장(Carbon Dioxide Capture & Storage, CCS) 기술 개발이 절실한 상황이다.
CCS기술이란, 에너지를 얻기 위해 사용되는 화석연료를 연소 또는 처리하는 과정에서 발생하는 이산화탄소를 대기로 방출시키지 않고 포집, 저장하여 격리하는 기술을 의미한다. 이러한 CCS기술은 앞서 언급한 이산화탄소 배출 저감을 위한 기술 중, 가장 효율적이고 실용적인 기술로 알려져 있어 이미 많은 선진국들은 CCS기술 개발에 많은 연구와 투자가 집중되고 있다. 이산화탄소 포집기술에는 크게 연료를 공기 대신 산소만으로 연소시키는 순산소 연소기술(Oxy-combustion capture), 연료를 연소하기 전 미리 연료를 반응 처리하여 이산화탄소를 분리해내는 연소 전 포집기술(Pre-combustion capture) 및 화석연료의 연소 후 발생되는 가스혼합물로부터 이산화탄소를 포집하는 연소 후 포집기술(Post-combustion capture)의 세 가지로 나뉜다. 이 중 현재 가동 중인 화학공장에 가장 쉽게 적용이 가능하고 실증 상업화를 고려할 경우 경제성, 효율성 등의 면에서 가장 유망한 기술이 연소 후 포집기술이다.
이산화탄소를 연소 후 포집하는 기술에는 습식흡수법, 건식흡착법, 막분리법 및 심냉법 등이 있으며 각 분야에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행 중이다. 이러한 기술은 환경적 측면보다 이산화탄소 포집의 효율을 높이는 방향으로 개발되었는데, 가장 널리 쓰이고 있는 기술은 MEA(monoethanolamine)를 이용한 습식 아민흡수법으로, 연소 후 배기 가스에 포함된 이산화탄소를 30% 이하로 희석된 MEA와 반응시켜 흡착한 후 용매를 가열하여 고농도의 이산화탄소를 분리해내는 동시에 MEA를 재생시키는 방법이다. 그러나 이러한 방법의 경우, 포집기술 자체로는 발전소에서 배출되는 이산화탄소의 약 90%를 회수할 수 있으나, 그 과정에서 많은 에너지를 요구한다. 대규모의 온실가스를 처리해야 하는 산업 현장에서는 비용과 scale-up 문제가 매우 민감하게 작용하므로 이는 비경제적인 기술로 평가된다. 때문에 흡착제 재생에 필요한 에너지가 적은 물리 흡착제 또는 막을 이용한 기체의 분리가 새로운 대안으로 떠오르고 있다. 그러나 이러한 방법들은 이론적으로는 에너지 소모는 적지만 기존의 아민흡수법의 흡착 성능을 재현하지 못하는 단점을 가진다.
이에 대한 해결방안으로 이산화탄소와 강한 흡착력을 가지는 아민 기반의 흡수제를 흡착제에 담지하는 “Molecular Basket” 개념 위주의 연구가 국내외에서 활발하게 진행 중에 있다. 실제로, 메조다공성 실리카인 MCM-41에 아민 그룹의 밀도가 높은 폴리에틸렌이민을 담지하여 제조한 흡착제(Xu, X. et al., Micro. Meso. Mater., 62,29-45(2003)), 중공(hollow sphere) 입상 형태의 메조다공성 실리카를 폴리에틸렌이민의 담체로 사용하여 제조한 흡착제(Qi, G. et al., Energy & Environmental Science 4,444-452(2011)), 메조기공 부피가 매우 큰 MCF(Mesocellualr Silica Foam)에 폴리에틸렌이민을 담지한 흡착제에 대하여 이산화탄소 흡착능 및 흡착속도를 분석(Zhang, H. et al., Royal Society of Chemistry 4,19403-19417(2014))하는 연구결과가 보고되었다. 이러한 이산화탄소 포집에 관한 많은 연구들은 담체의 변형을 통해 최대한의 폴리에틸렌이민을 효과적으로 담지시킴으로써 이산화탄소 흡착 성능의 최대치를 나타내는 데 초점을 맞춰 진행되어 왔다.
하지만 Nottingham 대학의 Drage, T.C. 그룹에서 발표된 내용에 따르면(Drage, T.C. et al., Microporous and Mesoporous Materials 116, 504-512(2008)), 폴리에틸렌이민의 경우 온도교대흡착(Temperature swing adsorption, TSA) 공정의 탈착조건인 고온 (>130℃), 100% CO2 가스 조성에서 흡착제 재생 시 요소(urea)의 형성으로 인해 심각한 비활성을 겪는 것으로 알려져 있다. 따라서 이는 연속적인 흡탈착 공정에서 낮은 재생 안정성을 보이는 주요 원인으로 작용한다.
이러한 한계를 극복하기 위한 노력으로 Nanjing 대학의 Zhu, J.H. 그룹에서는(Zhu, J.H. et al., Microporous and Mesoporous Materials 114, 74-81(2008)) 테트라에틸렌펜타아민(tetraethylenepentamine, TEPA)과 하이드록시에틸 그룹을 포함하고 있는 디에탄올아민(diethanolamine, DEA)을 물리적으로 혼합한 혼합아민(mixed amine)을 SBA-15에 담지하여 온도교대흡착 공정 6사이클(cycle) 재생 시 흡착능이 유지되는 영향을 확인하였다. 하지만 실질적으로, 물리적으로 혼합된 혼합아민의 경우 고온에서 탈착 사이클이 계속됨에 따라 결국 분자량이 작은 DEA의 증발이 일어나게 되므로 사이클이 더 길어질수록 흡착능이 떨어지는 특성을 보이게 된다. 따라서 이들 혼합아민 시스템은 온도교대흡착(Temperature swing adsorption, TSA)에는 사용이 불가능하며, 현재까지 주로 저온에서 가압교대흡착(Pressure swing adsorption, PSA)용도로 연구되어 왔다.
대한민국 등록특허 제1438292호에서는 다가아민이 흡착된 다공성 금속-유기 골격체 이산화탄소 흡수제에 관하여 개시하고 있다. 이 발명에서는 다가 아민을 금속-유기골격체에 흡착하여 저농도의 이산화탄소를 흡착할 수 있다는 장점을 가지지만, 일반적인 흡착제에 비하여 제조비용이 높으며, 금속유기골격에 흡착되는 다가아민의 양이 제한적이어서 많은 양의 이산화탄소를 처리하기는 어렵다는 단점을 가진다.
대한민국 등록특허 제1262213호에서는 공기를 포함하는 가스 혼합물로부터 이산화탄소를 분리하기 위한 나노 구조의 지지 고형 재생성 폴리아민 및 폴리아민폴리올 흡착제에 관하여 개시하고 있다. 이 발명에서는 100nm미만의 나노크기 고형입자에 아민을 흡착하여 제조되는 흡착제에 관하여 개시하고 있지만, 고온에서 요소를 형성하므로 흡탈착 안정성이 떨어진다는 단점을 가진다.
이에, 본 발명자들은 상기 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 예의 노력한 결과, 폴리에틸렌이민 내 아민기과 하이드록시 에틸그룹 간의 직접 알킬화 반응(공유결합)을 통해 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질하는 경우, 고온에서 증발 없이 높은 흡착능 및 재생 안정성을 갖는 흡착소재를 제조할 수 있다는 것을 확인하고, 본 발명을 완성하게 되었다.
발명의 요약
본 발명의 목적은 고온에서 높은 재생 안정성을 가지는 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민 및 이의 제조방법을 제공하는데 있다.
상기 목적을 달성하기 위하여, 본 발명은 화학식 1의 구조를 가지며, 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민을 제공한다.

본 발명은 또한, 상기 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민을 다공성 담체에 담지시키는 것을 특징으로 하는 흡착제의 제조방법을 제공한다.

도 7은 적외선 분광기(Infrared Spectroscopy, IR Spectrosc-opy)를 이용하여 urea가 형성되었는지를 확인한 것으로, 각 흡착제의 분자 골격의 진동과 회전에 대응하는 에너지의 흡수를 측정한 것이다.

본 발명에서는, 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민을 이용하여 이산화탄소 흡탈착 실험을 수행하였다. 그 결과 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민은 고온에서 안정성이 뛰어나 여러 번의 고온처리에도 분해되지 않으며, 높은 이산화탄소 선택도를 가지는 것을 확인하였다.
따라서, 본 발명은 일 관점에서, 화학식 1의 구조를 가지며, 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민에 관한 것이다.

본 발명에서, 상기 용어 "C1-18알킬"은, 단독으로 또는 다른 기와 조합을 포함하는 탄소수 1 내지 18의 분지쇄 또는 직쇄 1가 알킬 라디칼을 의미한다. 이러한 용어는 메틸, 에틸, n-프로필, 이소프로필, n-부틸, s-부틸, t-부틸과 같은 라디칼에 의해 더욱 예시된다.
본 발명에서, 상기 용어 "C1-18알콕시"는, 단독으로 또는 다른 기와 조합을 포함하는, R‘-O-(이때, R'는 C1-18 알킬임) 라디칼을 의미한다.
용어 "C1-10알킬렌"은, 단독으로 또는 다른 기와 조합을 포함하는, 탄소수 1 내지 10의 분지쇄 또는 직쇄 포화 2가 탄화수소 라디칼(예컨대 메틸렌, 에틸렌, 테트라메틸에틸렌)을 의미한다.
용어 "C3-10사이클로알킬"은, 단독으로 또는 다른 기와 조합을 포함하는, 3 내지 10의 고리 탄소로 이루어진 포화 1가 모노-사이클릭 탄화수소 라디칼(예컨대, 사이클로프로필, 사이클로부틸 또는 사이클로헥실)을 의미한다.
본 발명에 있어서, 상기 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민은 대기중의 이산화탄소를 가역적으로 흡수하는 기능을 가지는 것을 특징으로 한다.
본 발명에 있어서, 상기 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민은 전체 질소 원자 중 20~99%가 개질되지 않은 1차 또는 2차 아민으로 존재하는 것을 특징으로 할 수 있다.
본 발명은 다른 관점에서, (a) 용매에 폴리에틸렌이민을 녹인 용액에 옥사이드 유도체를 첨가하여 알킬화 반응을 수행하는 단계; 및 (b) 반응이 완료된 이후 상기 용액 내의 용매를 제거하는 단계를 포함하는 상기 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민의 제조방법에 관한 것이다.
본 발명에 있어서, 상기 폴리에틸렌이민은 하기의 화학식 2와 같은 분자식을 가질 수 있다.

본 발명에 있어서, 상기 옥사이드 유도체와 원료 폴리에틸렌이민 내에 존재하는 질소원자의 몰(mol)비는 0.2~0.95:1 인 것을 특징으로 할 수 있다. 몰비가 0.2:1 미만인 경우 치환되지 않는 질소원자의 수가 많아져 요소 형성으로 인한 고온에서의 안정성이 떨어지며, 0.95:1 초과인 경우 폴리에틸렌이민 내의 질소원자 대부분이 3차 아민으로 치환되어 이산화탄소 흡착능이 현저히 고온안정성이 떨어진다. 따라서 옥사이드 유도체와 원료 폴리에틸렌이민 내에 존재하는 질소원자의 몰(mol)비는 0.2~0.95:1일 수 있으며, 바람직하게는 0.20~0.90:1, 더욱 바람직하게는 0.25~0.80:1일 수 있다.
본 발명에 있어서, 상기 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민은 전체 질소 원자 중 20~99%가 개질되지 않은 1차 또는 2차 아민으로 존재하는 것을 특징으로 할 수 있다. 질소원자가 치환되지 않는 폴리에틸렌이민의 경우, 고온에서 안전성이 떨어지며, 70%를 초과하여 치환된 경우, 대부분의 질소원자가 3차 아민으로 치환됨에 따라 이산화탄소 흡착능이 현저하게 떨어진다. 따라서 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민은 전체 질소 원자 중 25~99%가 개질되지 않은 1차 또는 2차 아민으로 존재하는 것이 바람직하며, 더욱 바람직하게는 20~70%가 개질되지 않은 1차 또는 2차 아민으로 존재할 수 있다.
본 발명에 있어서, 상기 원료 폴리에틸렌이민은 선형 또는 분지형 폴리에틸렌이민인 것을 특징으로 할 수 있다. 원료 폴리에틸렌이민은 선형 또는 분지형 폴리에틸렌이민이면 제한 없이 사용가능하지만, 바람직하게는 화학식 2의 폴리에틸렌이민 일 수 있다. 또한 상기 원료 폴리에틸렌이민의 수 평균 분자량은 300~150,000인 것이 바람직하다.
본 발명에 있어서, 상기 용매는 물, 메탄올, 에탄올, 메틸클로라이드, 사염화탄소, 아세토니트릴, 톨루엔, 에틸아세테이트 및 테트라하이드로푸란으로 구성된 군에서 선택되는 1종 이상을 사용할 수 있다. 상기 용매는 폴리에틸렌이민을 용해할 수 있는 용매라면 제한 없이 사용가능하지만 바람직하게는 물, 메탄올, 에탄올, 메틸클로라이드, 사염화탄소, 아세토니트릴, 톨루엔, 에틸아세테이트 및 테트라하이드로푸란으로 구성된 군에서 선택되는 1종 이상이며, 더욱 바람직하게는 메탄올일 수 있다.

본 발명에 있어서, 상기 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴레에틸렌이민을 진공오븐에서 283~473K의 온도로 열처리하는 단계를 추가로 포함할 수 있다. 반응이 완료된 이후 용액내의 용매를 제거하더라도 미량의 용매가 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴레에틸렌이민에 남아 있을 수 있다. 따라서 이러한 용매를 제거하여 이산화탄소의 흡착 성능을 높이기 위하여 283~473K의 온도로 열처리하는 단계를 추가로 포함하는 것이 바람직하며, 더욱 바람직하게는 303~353K에서 열처리할 수 있다.
한편, 상기 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민은 고온에서 열적 안정성이 우수하여, 여러번의 흡탈착 사이클에 있어서도 흡착력을 유지하는 것으로 나타났다.
따라서, 본 발명은 또 다른 관점에서, 상기 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민을 다공성 담체에 담지시키는 것을 특징으로 하는 흡착제의 제조방법에 관한 것이다.
본 발명에 있어서, 상기 다공성 담체는 실리카 또는 메조다공성 실리카, 이종원소가 도핑된 실리카 또는 메조다공성 실리카, 알루미나, 이종원소가 도핑된 알루미나, 활성탄소 또는 카본 기반 담체, 이종원소가 도핑된 활성탄소 또는 카본 기반 담체, 제올라이트 및 이종원소가 도핑된 제올라이트로 구성된 군에서 선택되는 1종 이상일 수 있으며, 바람직하게는 실리카일 수 있다.
본 발명에 있어서, 상기 담지시 첨가제를 추가하는 것을 특징으로 할 수 있다. 첨가제는 흡착제의 열적 안정성을 더욱 높이며, 화학적, 기계적 안정성을 추가하기 위하여 첨가되는 것으로 바람직하게는 카본블랙, CTAB(Cetrimonium bromide), DTAB(Dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide), STAB(Sodium triacetoxyborohydride), SDBS(Sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate), SDS(Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate), PC(phosphatidylcholine), P123(Poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(propylene glycol)-block-poly(ethylene glycol)), Span80(sorbitan monooleate), Triton X-100( 4-(1,1,3,3-Tetramethylbutyl)phenyl-polyethylene glycol) 및 붕산으로 구성된 군에서 선택되는 1종 이상일 수 있으며, 더욱 바람직하게는 카본블랙 또는 붕산, 가장 바람직하게는 붕산일 수 있다.
본 발명에 있어서, 상기 다공성 담체에 담지된 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민을 진공오븐에서 열처리하는 단계를 추가로 포함할 수 있다. 반응이 완료된 이후 용액내의 용매를 제거하더라도 미량의 용매가 흡착제에 남아 있을 수 있다. 따라서 이러한 용매를 제거하여 이산화탄소의 흡착 성능을 높이기 위하여 283~473K의 온도로 열처리하는 단계를 추가로 포함하는 것이 바람직하며, 더욱 바람직하게는 303~353K에서 열처리할 수 있다.
본 발명은 또 다른 관점에서, 제1항의 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민이 다공성 담체에 담지되어 있는 흡착제에 관한 것이다.
본 발명에 있어서, 상기 흡착제는 첨가제가 추가로 담지되어 있는 것을 특징으로 할 수 있으며, 바람직하게는 카본블랙, CTAB(Cetrimonium bromide), DTAB(Dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide), STAB(Sodium triacetoxyborohydride), SDBS(Sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate), SDS(Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate), PC(phosphatidylcholine), P123(Poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(propylene glycol)-block-poly(ethylene glycol)), Span80(sorbitan monooleate), Triton X-100( 4-(1,1,3,3-Tetramethylbutyl)phenyl-polyethylene glycol) 및 붕산로 구성된 군에서 선택되는 1종 이상일 수 있으며, 더욱 바람직하게는 카본블랙 또는 붕산, 가장 바람직하게는 붕산일 수 있다.
한편, 상기 흡착제는 이산화탄소의 선택도가 뛰어나며, 고온에서 열적 안정성이 우수하여, 여러번의 흡탈착 사이클에 있어서도 이산화탄소의 흡착력을 유지하는 것으로 나타났다.
따라서, 본 발명은 또 다른 관점에서, 상기 흡착제를 이용한 이산화탄소 흡착 방법에 관한 것이다.
실시예
이하, 실시예를 통하여 본 발명을 더욱 상세히 설명하고자 한다. 이들 실시예는 오로지 본 발명을 예시하기 위한 것으로, 본 발명의 범위가 이들 실시예에 의해 제한되는 것으로 해석되지 않는 것은 당업계에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자에게 있어서 자명할 것이다.
실시예 1: 부틸렌옥사이드와 폴리에틸렌이민을 이용한 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민의 합성
부틸렌 옥사이드로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민을 합성하기 위해 298K 하에서 폴리에틸렌이민(Mn = 1200, 19mmol N / g) 2g을 메탄올 10g 에 녹여 400rpm의 일정한 교반 속도로 10분간 교반시켰다. 그 후, 교반 중인 폴리에틸렌이민/메탄올 용액에 부틸렌 옥사이드를 폴리에틸렌이민 내에 존재하는 질소원자(N)에 대한 부틸렌 옥사이드(BO)의 몰(mol)비가 각각 0.18, 0.35, 0.49가 되도록 넣어준 후, 추가적으로 12시간 동안 400rpm의 속도로 교반을 진행하여 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민/메탄올 용액을 합성하였다. 이 후 상기 용액을 50℃의 진공오븐에서 12시간 동안 열처리하여 용매를 제거하여 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민을 합성하였고, 이를 각각 0.18BO-PEI, 0.35BO-PEI, 0.49BO-PEI로 명명하였다. 상기 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민과 순수한 폴리에틸렌이민을 13C-NMR 분광법을 이용하여 분자 내 1차 아민기(primary amine), 2차 아민기(secondary amine) 및 3차 아민기(tertiary amine)에 인접한 탄소들의 화학적 시프트를 분석하였고 그 결과를 도 1에 나타내었다. 39 ~ 41ppm 부근에서 나타나는 2개의 피크(peak)는 알파 위치에 1차 아민기가 인접한 탄소를 의미하고, 베타 위치에 있는 아민기의 종류에 따라서 3차 아민기인 경우 a, 2차 아민기인 경우 b 로 나타내었다. 47 ~ 51.5ppm 부근에서 나타나는 3개의 피크(peak)는 알파 위치에 2차 아민기가 인접한 탄소를 의미하고, 베타 위치에 있는 아민기의 종류에 따라서 3차 아민기인 경우 c, 2차 아민기인 경우 d, 1차 아민기인 경우 e로 나타내었다. 52 ~ 57ppm 부근에서 나타나는 3개의 피크(peak)는 알파 위치에 3차 아민기가 인접한 탄소를 의미하며, 베타 위치에 있는 아민기의 종류에 따라서 3차 아민기인 경우 f, 2차 아민기인 경우 g, 1차 아민기인 경우 h로 나타내었다. 부틸렌 옥사이드로 부분치환된 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민의 경우, 새로이 생성되는 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 인하여 추가적으로 4개의 피크가 생성된다. 아민기를 기준으로 하여 알파(α) 위치에 있는 탄소는 55ppm(2차 아민기의 알파 위치에 있는 탄소)와 61ppm(3차 아민기의 알파 위치에 있는 탄소)에서 피크가 나타나며 각각 1, 1’으로 나타내었다. 또한 베타(β), 감마(γ), 델타(δ) 위치에 있는 탄소는 각각 70, 26~27, 10ppm에서 피크가 나타나며 이를 각각 2, 3, 4로 나타내었다. 탄소 핵자기 공명(Carbon Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, 13C-NMR)을 통해 나타난 피크들의 면적 비를 통해 폴리에틸렌이민과 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민 내 존재하는 1차 아민기(primary amine), 2차 아민기(secondary amine) 및 3차 아민기(tertiary amine)의 비율을 하기 식을 통해 구할 수 있다.

이를 통해 순수한 폴리에틸렌이민과 개질된 폴리에틸렌 이민 내 존재하는 1차 아민기(primary amine), 2차 아민기(secondary amine) 및 3차 아민기(tertiary amine)의 비율(%)을 도 1에 나타내었다. 도 1에 나타낸 바와 같이, 개질화의 정도에 따라 그 양이 많아질수록 1차 아민기의 비율이 줄어들고 2차 및 3차 아민기의 비율이 높아지는 것을 확인할 수 있다.
실시예 2. 실리카(Silica)에 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민이 담지된 CO2 흡착제 제조 및 온도교대흡착(Temperature swing adsorption, TSA)실험
실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 제조된 상기 부틸렌 옥사이드로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민을 흡착제에 총 중량 대비 50wt% 담지하기 위하여 습식 함침법(wet impregnation method)을 이용하여 흡착제의 제조를 수행하였다. 상기 부틸렌 옥사이드로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민/메탄올 용액에 각각 흄드 실리카 2.48g, 3.20g, 및 3.92g를 첨가한 다음. 2시간 동안 충분히 교반하여 흄드 실리카 기공 내에 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민 용액이 충분이 담지되도록 하였다. 상기 용액을 50℃의 진공오븐에서 12시간 동안 열처리하여 용매를 제거한 다음, 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민이 담지된 실리카 흡착제들을 합성하였고 이를 각각 0.18BO-PEI / Silica, 0.35BO-PEI / Silica, 0.49BO-PEI / Silica 로 명명하였다.
직접적인 비교를 위하여 개질화하지 않은 순수한 폴리에틸렌이민을 습식 함침법(wet impregnation method)을 이용하여 흡착제에 담지하였다. 폴리에틸렌이민 (Mn = 1200, 19mmol N/g) 2g을 메탄올 10g 에 녹여 400rpm의 일정한 교반 속도로 10분간 교반시켰다. 그 후 상기 폴리에틸렌이민/메탄올 용액에 흄드 실리카 2g 넣어주고 2시간 동안 충분히 교반하여 흄드 실리카 기공 내에 폴리에틸렌이민 용액이 충분이 담지되도록 하였다. 상기 용액을 50℃의 진공오븐에서 12시간 동안 열처리하여 용매를 제거한 다음, 폴리에틸렌이민이 담지된 실리카 흡착제를 합성하였고 이를 PEI/Silica로 명명하였다.
상기 폴리에틸렌이민이 담지된 실리카 흡착제(PEI/Silica)와 부틸렌 옥사이드로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민이 담지된 실리카 흡착제들(0.18BO-PEI / Silica, 0.35BO-PEI / Silica, 0.49BO-PEI / Silica)의 재생 안정성을 확인하기 위해 열중량분석기(Thermogravimetric analysis, TGA)를 통해 분석을 진행하였다. 우선, 흡착제 표면에 미리 흡착되어있는 가스들을 탈착시키기 위하여 100% N2를 이용하여, 100℃에서 1시간 동안 탈착을 진행하였다. 이후 실제 공정과 유사한 환경으로 조건을 맞추기 위해서 흡착은 15% CO2, 40℃에서 30분간 수행하도록 하였으며, 탈착은 100 % CO2, 130℃에서 30분간 수행하였다. 폴리에틸렌이민이 담지된 실리카 흡착제(PEI / Silica)를 열중량분석기를 통한 상기 온도교대흡착 공정으로 20사이클을 수행한 결과, 사이클이 진행됨에 따라 흡착능이 현저히 떨어짐을 확인하였고 이를 도 2에 나타내었다. 마찬가지 방법으로 부틸렌 옥사이드로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민이 담지된 실리카 흡착제들(0.18BO-PEI / Silica, 0.35BO-PEI / Silica, 0.49BO-PEI / Silica)을 열중량분석기를 통한 상기 온도교대흡착 공정으로 20Cycle 본 결과를 각각 도 3, 4, 5에 나타내었다. 부틸렌 옥사이드의 비율이 적은 0.18BO-PEI / Silica 흡착제의 경우에는 높은 흡착능을 갖지만 재생 안정성이 낮고, 부틸렌 옥사이드의 비율이 높은 0.49BO-PEI / Silica 흡착제의 경우 아주 우수한 재생 안정성을 가지지만 낮은 흡착능을 갖는다. 반면에 도 4에 나타나 있듯이 0.35BO-PEI / Silica 흡착제의 경우, 사이클이 진행됨에 따라 높은 흡착능을 가지는 동시에 우수한 재생 안정성을 보인다. 부틸렌 옥사이드의 비율이 적은 경우에는 에틸하이드록시기 그룹으로 개질화된 아민기가 충분하지 않아 요소(urea) 생성이 완전히 억제되지 못하기 때문에 재생 안정성이 낮게 되며, 부틸렌 옥사이드의 비율이 많은 경우에는 물이 없는 건식 조건에서 이산화탄소를 흡착할 수 없는 3차 아민기로 치환된 아민기의 비율이 많아짐에 따라 낮은 흡착능을 갖게 된다. 따라서, 적절하게 부틸렌 옥사이드를 첨가해주어야 높은 흡착능을 가지는 동시에 우수한 재생 안정성을 갖는 흡착제를 개발할 수 있으며 본 발명에서는 0.35BO-PEI / Silica 흡착제가 이러한 성능을 가지는 흡착제로 나타났다.
상기 폴리에틸렌이민을 담지한 실리카 흡착제(PEI / Silica)와 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민을 담지한 실리카 흡착제들(0.18BO-PEI / Silica, 0.35BO-PEI / Silica, 0.49BO-PEI / Silica)에 대하여 상기 온도교대흡착 공정으로 사이클(cycle)당 이산화탄소 흡착능을 분석하여 도6에 나타내었다. 도 6에서 볼 수 있듯이, 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민을 담지한 실리카 흡착제들 중에서도 0.35BO-PEI / Silica가 cycle이 진행됨에 따라 높은 흡착능이 아주 우수하게 유지되는 최적의 흡착제임을 확인할 수 있다. 흡착능이 떨어지지 않고 우수하게 유지될 수 있는 이유는 온도교대흡착(Temperature swing adsorption, TSA) 공정의 탈착조건인 고온 (>130℃), 100% CO2 가스 조성에서 흡착제 재생 시 요소(urea)의 형성이 일어나지 않기 때문이다. 실제로 이를 확인하기 위하여 상기 폴리에틸렌이민을 담지한 실리카 흡착제(PEI / Silica) 및 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민을 담지한 실리카 흡착제(0.18BO-PEI / Silica, 0.35BO-PEI / Silica, 0.49BO-PEI / Silica)에 대하여 적외선분광기(Infrared Spectroscopy, IR Spectroscopy)를 통해 분석을 진행하였다. 100℃, 100% N2가스를 100sccm 으로 3시간 동안 흘려주어 각 흡착제의 표면을 깨끗하게 한 후, 40℃, 100% CO2 가스를 100sccm 으로 1시간 동안 흘려주어 각 흡착제에 이산화탄소를 흡착시켰다. 그 후, 상기 온도교대흡착 공정의 탈착조건인 130℃, 100% CO2를 12시간 동안 100sccm으로 흘려주어 요소의 형성을 유도하였고 이를 도 7에 나타내었다. 1702cm-

1부근에서 나타나는 피크(peak)는 이산화탄소와 폴리에틸렌이민 내 2개의 아민기의 결합을 통해 형성되는 사이클릭 요소(cyclic urea, U2)를 의미하고, 1660 cm-
1와 1560cm-1 부근에서 나타나는 피크는 이산화탄소와 폴리에틸렌이민 간 아민기의 결합을 통해 형성되는 열린 사슬 요소(open-chain urea, U1)를 의미한다. 도 7에서 볼 수 있듯이, 폴리에틸렌이민을 담지한 실리카 흡착제(PEI / Silica)의 경우 사이클릭 요소(cyclic urea, U2)와 열린 사슬 요소(open-chain urea, U1)가 뚜렷이 형성됨을 확인할 수 있고, 부틸렌 옥사이드의 비율이 적게 부분 치환된 흡착제(0.18BO-PEI / Silica)의 경우 상대적으로 피크의 세기(Intensity)가 적지만 여전히 요소가 형성됨을 확인할 수 있다. 반대로, 부분 치환된 정도가 일정 비율이상으로 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민을 담지한 실리카 흡착제(0.35BO-PEI / Silica, 0.49BO-PEI / Silica)의 경우 요소 형성이 일어나지 않았음을 확인할 수 있다.
실시예 3. 붕소(B)가 도핑된 실리카에 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민이 담지된 CO2 흡착제 제조 및 온도교대흡착(Temperature swing adsorption, TSA) 실험
붕소(B)에 대한 실리콘(Si)의 몰비(mole ratio)가 5가 되도록 붕소가 도핑된 실리카를 합성하기 위해 함침 후처리(Post-impregnation method)를 수행하였다. 흄드 실리카 10g 과 붕산(Boric acid, H3BO3) 2.06g을 물 100g에 녹여 400rpm의 일정한 교반 속도로 3시간 동안 교반시켰다. 그 후, 상기 교반 중인 용액의 용매를 제거하고, Air 800℃ 조건에서 6시간 동안 소성하여 붕소가 도핑된 실리카를 합성하였다.
실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민/메탄올 용액을 합성하였다.
상기 부틸렌 옥사이드로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민을 흡착제에 담지하기 위하여 습식 함침법(wet impregnation method)을 수행하였다. 상기 부틸렌 옥사이드로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민/메탄올 용액에 상기 붕소가 도핑된 실리카 2.96g 넣어주고 2시간 동안 충분히 교반하여 붕소가 도핑된 실리카 기공 내에 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민 용액이 충분이 담지되도록 수행하였다. 상기 용액을 50℃의 진공오븐에서 12시간 동안 열처리하여 용매를 제거한 다음, 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민이 담지된 실리카 흡착제를 합성하였고, 이를 0.35BO-PEI / Boresilicate로 명명하였다.
상기 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민이 담지된 붕소가 도핑된 실리카 흡착제(0.35BO-PEI / Borosilicate)의 재생 안정성을 확인하기 위해 열중량분석기(Thermogravimetric analysis, TGA)를 통해 분석을 진행하였다. 우선, 흡착제 표면에 미리 흡착되어있는 가스들을 탈착시키기 위하여 100% N2를 이용하여, 100℃에서 1시간 동안 탈착을 수행하였고, 실제 공정과 유사한 환경으로 조건을 맞추기 위해서 흡착은 15% CO2, 40℃에서 30분간 수행하도록 하였으며, 탈착은 100% CO2, 130℃에서 30분간 수행하였다. 부틸렌 옥사이드로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민이 담지된 붕소가 도핑된 실리카 흡착제(0.35BO-PEI / Borosilicate)를 열중량분석기를 통한 상기 온도교대흡착 공정으로 12사이클을 수행한 결과, 사이클이 진행됨에 따라 우수한 재생 안정성을 보이는 것을 확인하였고 이를 도 8에 나타내었다.
실시예 4. 실리카에 부틸렌 옥사이드(Butylene oxide)와 (글리시돌옥시프로필)트라이메톡시실란((3-Glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxy-silane)으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민이 담지된 CO2 흡착제 제조 및 온도교대흡착(Temperature swing adsorption, TSA) 실험
부틸렌 옥사이드와 (글리시돌옥시프로필)트라이메톡시실란으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민을 합성하기 위해 298K 하에서 폴리에틸렌이민 (Mn = 1200, 19mmol N/g) 2g을 메탄올 10g 에 녹여 400rpm의 일정한 교반 속도로 10분간 교반시켰다. 그 후, 교반 중인 폴리에틸렌이민/메탄올 용액에 부틸렌 옥사이드를 폴리에틸렌이민 내에 존재하는 질소원자(N)에 대한 부틸렌 옥사이드(BO)의 몰(mol)비가 0.26이 되도록 넣어준 후, 12시간 동안 400rpm의 속도로 교반을 진행하여 부틸렌 옥사이드로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민/메탄올 용액을 합성하였다. 그 후, (글리시돌옥시프로필)트라이메톡시실란을 폴리에틸렌이민 내에 존재하는 질소원자(N)에 대한 (글리시돌옥시프로필)트라이메톡시실란(GTMS)의 몰(mol)비가 0.09가 되도록 넣어준 후, 추가적으로 2시간 동안 400rpm의 속도로 교반을 진행하여 부텔렌 옥사이드와 (글리시돌옥시프로필)트라이메톡시실란으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민/메탄올 용액을 합성하였다
상기 부틸렌 옥사이드와 (글리시돌옥시프로필)트라이메톡시실란으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민을 흡착제에 총 중량 대비 50wt% 담지하기 위하여 상기 부틸렌 옥사이드와 (글리시돌옥시프로필)트라이메톡시실란으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민/메탄올 용액에 흄드 실리카 2.96g 첨가하고 2시간 동안 충분히 교반하여 흄드 실리카 기공 내에 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민 용액이 충분이 담지되도록 하였다. 상기 용액을 50℃의 진공오븐에서 12시간 동안 열처리하여 용매를 제거한 다음, 부틸렌 옥사이드와 (글리시돌옥시프로필)트라이메톡시실란으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민이 담지된 실리카 흡착제를 합성하였고, 이를 0.26BO-0.09GTMS-PEI / Silica 로 명명하였다.
상기 부틸렌 옥사이드와 (글리시돌옥시프로필)트라이메톡시실란으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민이 담지된 실리카 흡착제(0.26BO-0.09GTMS-PEI / Silica)의 재생 안정성을 확인하기 위해 열중량분석기(Thermogravimetric analysis, TGA)를 통해 분석을 진행하였다. 우선, 흡착제 표면에 미리 흡착되어있는 가스들을 탈착시키기 위하여 100% N2를 이용하여, 100℃에서 1시간 동안 탈착을 수행하였고, 실제 공정과 유사한 환경으로 조건을 맞추기 위해서 흡착은 15% CO2, 40℃에서 30분간 수행하도록 하였으며, 탈착은 100% CO2, 130℃에서 30분간 수행하였다. 부틸렌 옥사이드와 (글리시돌옥시프로필)트라이메톡시실란으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민이 담지된 실리카 흡착제(0.26BO-0.09GTMS-PEI / Silica)를 열중량분석기를 통한 상기 온도교대흡착 공정으로 12을 수행한 결과, 사이클이 진행됨에 따라 우수한 재생 안정성을 보이는 것을 확인하였고 이를 도 9에 나타내었다
본 발명에 따른 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민은 고온에서 안정성이 뛰어나며, 높은 이산화탄소 선택도를 가지므로 효과적인 이산화탄소의 흡착에 유용하다.
이상으로 본 발명 내용의 특정한 부분을 상세히 기술하였는 바, 당업계의 통상의 지식을 가진 자에게 있어서 이러한 구체적 기술은 단지 바람직한 실시 양태일 뿐이며, 이에 의해 본 발명의 범위가 제한되는 것이 아닌 점은 명백할 것이다. 따라서, 본 발명의 실질적인 범위는 첨부된 청구항들과 그것들의 등가물에 의하여 정의된다고 할 것이다.
Claims (18)
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민은 전체 질소 원자 중 20~99%가 개질되지 않은 1차 또는 2차 아민으로 존재하는 것을 특징으로 하는, 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민.
- 제1항에 있어서, 이산화탄소를 가역적으로 흡수하는 기능을 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는, 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민.
- (a) 용매에 폴리에틸렌이민을 녹인 용액에 옥사이드 유도체를 첨가하여 알킬화 반응을 수행하는 단계; 및(b) 반응이 완료된 이후 상기 용액 내의 용매를 제거하는 단계;를 포함하는 제1항의 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민의 제조방법.
- 제4항에 있어서, 상기 옥사이드 유도체와 상기 폴리에틸렌이민 내에 존재하는 질소원자의 몰(mol)비는 0.2~0.95:1인 것을 특징으로 하는, 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민의 제조방법.
- 제4항에 있어서, 상기 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민은 전체 질소 원자 중 20~99%가 개질되지 않은 1차 또는 2차 아민으로 존재하는 것을 특징으로 하는, 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민의 제조방법.
- 제4항에 있어서, 상기 폴리에틸렌이민은 선형 또는 분지형 폴리에틸렌이민인 것을 특징으로 하는, 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민의 제조방법.
- 제4항에 있어서, 상기 폴리에틸렌이민의 수평균 분자량은 300~150,000인 것을 특징으로 하는, 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민의 제조방법.
- 제4항에 있어서, 상기 용매는 물, 메탄올, 에탄올, 메틸클로라이드, 사염화탄소, 아세토니트릴, 톨루엔, 에틸아세테이트 및 테트라하이드로푸란으로 구성된 군에서 선택되는 1종 이상인 것을 특징으로 하는, 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민의 제조방법.
- 제4항에 있어서, 상기 옥사이드 유도체는 에틸렌 옥사이드(ethylene oxide), 프로필렌 옥사이드(propylene oxide), 부틸렌 옥사이드(butylene oxide), 펜텐 옥사이드(1-pentene oxide), 헥센 옥사이드(1-hexene oxide), 옥텐 옥사이드(1-octene oxide), 데센 옥사이드(1-decene oxide), 도데센 옥사이드(1-dodecene oxide), 테트라데센 옥사이드(1-tetradecene oxide), 헥사데센 옥사이드(1-hexadecene oxide), 옥타데센 옥사이드(1-octadecene oxide), 글리시돌(Glycidol), (글리시돌옥시프로필)트라이메톡시실란((3-Glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane), (글리시돌옥시프로필)트라이에톡시실란(3-Glycidyloxypropyl)triethoxysilane), 비스(글리시돌옥시프로필)테트라메틸다이실옥세인(1,3-Bis(3-glycidyloxypropyl)tetramethyldisiloxane), 부타디엔 모녹사이드(butadiene monoxide), 1,2-에폭사이드-7-옥텐(1,2-epoxy-7-octene), 아이소프로필 글리시딜 에테르(isopropyl glycidyl ether), 부틸 글리시딜 에테르(butyl glycidyl ether), t-부틸 글리시딜 에테르, 2-에틸헥실 글리시딜 에테르, 알릴 글리시딜 에테르(allyl glycidyl ether), 사이클로펜텐 옥사이드(cyclopentene oxide), 사이클로헥센 옥사이드(cyclohexene oxide), 사이클로옥텐 옥사이드(cyclooctene oxide), 사이클로도데센 옥사이드(cyclododecene oxide), 2,3-에폭사이드노보넨(2,3-epoxynorbornane), 리모넨 옥사이드(limonene oxide), 2,3-에폭시프로필벤젠(2,3-epoxy propylbenzene), 스타이렌 옥사이드(styrene oxide), 페닐프로필렌 옥사이드(phenyl propylene oxide), 1,2-에폭시-3-페녹시프로판( 1,2-epoxy-3-phenoxy propane), 벤질옥시메틸 옥시란(benzyloxy methyl oxirane), 글리시딜-메틸페닐 에테르(glycidyl-methylphenyl ether), 에폭시프로필 메톡시페닐 에테르(epoxypropyl methoxyphenyl ether), 바이페닐 글리시딜 에테르(biphenyl glycidyl ether) 및 나프틸 글리시딜 에테르(naphthyl glycidyl ether)로 구성된 군에서 선택되는 1종 이상인 것을 특징으로 하는, 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민의 제조방법.
- 제4항에 있어서, 상기 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴레에틸렌이민을 진공오븐에서 283~473K의 온도로 열처리하는 단계를 추가로 포함하는, 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민의 제조방법.
- 제1항의 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민을 다공성 담체에 담지시키는 것을 특징으로 하는, 흡착제의 제조방법.
- 제12항에 있어서, 상기 다공성 담체는 실리카 또는 메조다공성 실리카, 이종원소가 도핑된 실리카 또는 메조다공성 실리카, 알루미나, 이종원소가 도핑된 알루미나, 활성탄소 또는 카본 기반 담체, 이종원소가 도핑된 활성탄소 또는 카본 기반 담체, 제올라이트 및 이종원소가 도핑된 제올라이트로 구성된 군에서 선택되는 1종 이상인 것을 특징으로 하는, 흡착제의 제조방법.
- 제12항에 있어서, 상기 담지시 첨가제를 추가하는 것을 특징으로 하는, 흡착제의 제조방법.
- 제12항에 있어서, 상기 다공성 담체에 담지된 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴레에틸렌이민을 진공오븐에서 열처리하는 단계를 추가로 포함하는, 흡착제의 제조방법.
- 제1항의 하이드록시 에틸그룹으로 부분 치환하여 개질된 폴리에틸렌이민이 다공성 담체에 담지되어 있는 흡착제.
- 제16항에 있어서, 첨가제가 추가로 담지되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는, 흡착제.
- 제16항 또는 제17항의 흡착제를 이용한 이산화탄소의 흡착방법.
