유기 광전자 소자 (organic optoelectronic diode)는 전기 에너지와 광 에너지를 상호 전환할 수 있는 소자이다.
유기 광전자 소자는 동작 원리에 따라 크게 두 가지로 나눌 수 있다. 하나는 광 에너지에 의해 형성된 엑시톤 (exciton)이 전자와 정공으로 분리되고 상기 전자와 정공이 각각 다른 전극으로 전달되면서 전기 에너지를 발생하는 광전 소자이고, 다른 하나는 전극에 전압 또는 전류를 공급하여 전기 에너지로부터 광 에너지를 발생하는 발광 소자이다.
유기 광전자 소자의 예로는 유기 광전 소자, 유기 발광 소자, 유기 태양 전지 및 유기 감광체 드럼 (organic photo conductor drum) 등을 들 수 있다.
이 중, 유기 발광 소자 (organic light emitting diode, OLED)는 근래 평판 표시 장치 (flat panel display device)의 수요 증가에 따라 크게 주목받고 있다. 상기 유기 발광 소자는 유기 발광 재료에 전류를 가하여 전기 에너지를 빛으로 전환시키는 소자로서, 통상 양극 (anode)과 음극 (cathode) 사이에 유기 층이 삽입된 구조로 이루어져 있다.
유기 발광 소자의 성능은 상기 유기 층의 특성에 의해 영향을 많이 받으며, 그 증에서도 상기 유기 층에 포함된 유기 재료에 의해 영향을 많이 받는다.
특히 상기 유기 발광 소자가 대형 평판 표시 장치에 적용되기 위해서는 정공 및 전자의 이동성을 높이는 동시에 전기화학적 안정성을 높일 수 있는 유기 재료의 개발이 필요하다.

상기 유기 화합물은 특정 위치에 아릴 치환된 비스카바졸 화합물로, 높은 유리전이온도 (glass transition temperature, Tg)에 의해 개선된 내열 안정성을 가질 수 있다.
유리전이온도 (Tg)는 유기 화합물 및 이를 적용한 소자의 열안정성과 관련될 수 있다. 즉 높은 유리전이온도 (Tg)를 가지는 유기 화합물은, 유기발광소자에 박막 형태로 적용되었을 때, 상기 유기 화합물을 증착한 후에 이루어지는 후속 공정, 예컨대 봉지 (encapsulation) 공정에서 온도에 의해 열화되는 것이 방지되어 유기 화합물 및 소자의 수명 특성을 확보할 수 있다.
상기 유기 화합물의 유리전이온도 (Tg)는 예컨대 약 70°C 이상일 수 있고, 상기 범위 내에서 약 9(rc 이상인 경우가 보다 효과적이다.

유기화합물의 합성
[대표 합성법]
(대표 합성법에서 , 'BO'는 보론산 또는 보론에스테르의 치환체를 의미한다) 단계 1 :
2-브로모 -4-클로로-아닐린 leq와 보론에스테르 혹은 보로닉 액시드가 치환된
아릴 (Arl) leq와 Pd(PP3)4 5mol%, K2C03 2mol%를 를루엔 (고형분의 12배수)과 증류수 (K2C03량의 5배수)에 현탁시킨 후 질소기류 하에서 18 시간 동안 환류 교반하였다. 반웅 종료 후 를루엔과 증류수로 추출 후 유기충을 마그네슴
설페이트로 건조, 여과하고 여과액을 감압 농축하였다. 유기 용액을 제거하고 핵산:디클로로메탄 =8:2(v/v)로 실리카겔 컬럼하여 생성물 고체를 디클로로메탄과 에틸아세테이트으로 재결정하여 중간체 1-1을 얻었다.
단계 2:
중간체 1-1 leq를 다이옥산에 교반하여 녹인 후 염산 (35%) 3eq을 천천히 투입하였다. 이어서 소듐나이트레이트 leq 및 소듐아자이드 leq를 증류수에 녹여 1시갚 간격으로 투입한다. 반응이 완료되면, NaOH로 중화한 다음 메탄올로 침전시키고, 핵산:디클로로메탄 =9: l(v/v)로 실리카겔 컬럼하여 중간체 1-2를 얻었다. 단계 3:

디클로로메탄과 에틸아세테이트으로 재결정하여 중간체 1-4를 얻었다.
단계 5:
중간체 1-4 leq 와 피나콜다이보론 1.2eq, Pd(dppf)C12 0.2eq 포타슴아세테이트 2eq 를 무수 디메틸포름아미드 (Dimethylformamide) (고형분의 12배수)에 넣고 환류교반하였다. 반웅 종료 후 증류수로 침전시켰다. 증류수를 건조한 다음 디클로로메탄과 에틸아세테이트으로 재결정하여 중간체 1-5를 얻었다.
단계 6:
중간체 1-5 leq 와 "브롬화 Ar3" leq와 Pd(PP3)4 5moI%, K2C03 2mol%를 를루엔 (고형분의 12배수)과 증류수 (K2C03량의 5배수)에 현탁시킨 후 질소기류 하에서 18시간 동안 환류 교반하였다. 반웅 종료 후 를루엔과 증류수로 추출 후 유기층을 마그네슴 설페이트로 건조, 여과하고 여과액을 감압 농축하였다. 유기

합성예 1: 화합물 A-1의 합성

단계 1 :
2-브로모 -4-클로로-아닐린 leq(73.8g)와 다이페닐 -4-보로닉 액시드 leq(743g)와 Pd(PP3)4 5mol%(2().7g), K2C03 2eq(98.8g)를 틀루엔 (고형분의 12배수, 1200ml)과 증류수 (K2C03량의 5배수, 600ml)에 현탁시킨 후 질소기류 하에서 18 시간 동안 환류 교반하였다. 반응 종료 후 를루엔과 증류수로 추출 후 유기층을
마그네슘설페이트 (MgS04)로 건조, 여과하고 여과액을 감압 농축하였다. 유기 용액을 제거하고 핵산:디클로로메탄 =8:2(v/v)로 실리카겔 컬럼하여 생성물 고체를
디클로로메탄과 아세론으로 재결정하여 중간체 1(5-클로로 -[1,1,,4',1,,]터페닐 -2"- 일아민)을 76g(Y=76%) 얻었다.
단계 2:
중간체 1 leq(76g)를 다이옥산에 교반하여 녹인 후 염산 (35%) 3eq(72ml)을 천천히 투입하였다. 이어서 소듐나이트레이트 leq(20.6g) 및 소듐아자이드
leq(17.7g)를 증류수에 녹여 1시간 간격으로 투입한다. 반웅이 완료되면, NaOH로 중화한 다음 메탄을로 침전시키고, 물, 메탄올로 씻어준 다음 건조한다. 그렇게 얻어진 핵산:디클로로메탄 =9: 1 (v/v)로 실리카겔 컬럼하여 중간체 2(2-아졸로 -5'- 클로로 -[1,1,,4',1"]터페닐 , 78g, Y=94%)를 얻었다.
단계 3:
중간체 2 (78g)를 0-다이클로로벤젠에 18시간 환류교반하여 반응이 완료되면, 용매를 제거한다음, 디클로로메탄 /핵산으로 재결정하여 증간체 3(6-클로로 -2-페닐 -9H- 카바졸 , 68g Y=96%)을 얻었다.
단계 4:
중간체 3 leq(20g) 를 브로모벤젠 l eq(1 1.3g) 와 소듐티부톡사이드 2eq(13.8g), Pd2(dba)3 0.03eq(2.0g)를 를루엔 (240ml)에 현탁시킨 후 트리-터셔리 -부틸포스핀 0.09eq를 넣고 18 시간 동안 환류 교반하였다. 반응 종료 후 롤루엔과 증류수로 추출 후 유기층을 마그네슴 설페이트로 건조, 여과하고 여과액을 감압 농축하였다. 유기 용액을 제거하고 핵산:디클로로메탄 =8:2(v/v)로 실리카겔 컬럼하여 생성물 고체를 디클로로메탄과 에틸아세테이트으로 재결정하여 증간체 4(6-클로로 -2-페닐 -9-페닐- 카바졸, 17.5g Y=74%)를 얻었다.
단계 5:
중간체 4 leq(17.5g) 와 피나콜다이보론 1.2eq(16.3g), Pd(dppf)C12 0.5eq(2.2g) 포타슘아세테이트 2eq(10.5g) 를 무수디메틸포름아미드 (Dimethylformamide) (고형분의 12배수, 210ml)에 넣고 36시간 환류교반하였다. 반웅 종료 후 증류수로 침전시켰다. 침전시킨 유기고형분의 증류수를 완벽히 건조한 다음 디클로로메탄과
에틸아세테이트으로 재결정하여 중간체 5(6-다이보론에스터 -2-페닐 -9-페닐-카바졸, 10.5g Y=44%)를 얻었다.
단계 6:
중간체 5 leq(10.5g) 와 3-브로모 -9-페닐-카바졸 leq(7.6g)와 Pd(PP3)4

합성예 8: 화합물 A-55의 합성
단계 1 :
2-브로모 -4-클로로-아닐린 leq(25.0g)와 4,-메틸-다이페닐 -4-보로닉 액시드 leq(25.7g)와 Pd(PP3)4 5mol%(7.0g), K2C03 2eq(35.2g)를 를루엔 (고형분의
12배수, 300ml)과 증류수 (K2C03량의 5배수, 175ml)에 현탁시킨 후 질소기류 하에서 18 시간 동안 환류 교반하였다. 반응 종료 후 를루엔과 증류수로 추출 후 유기층을 마그네슘설페이트 (MgS04)로 건조, 여과하고 여과액을 감압 농축하였다. 유기 용액을 제거하고 핵산:디클로로메탄 =8:2(v/v)로 실리카겔 컬럼하여 생성물 고체를
디클로로메탄과 아세톤으로 재결정하여 중간체 1을 27.6g(Y=78%) 얻었다.
단계 2:
중간체 1 leq(27.6g)를 다이옥산에 교반하여 녹인 후 염산 (35%) 3eq(25ml)을 천천히 투입하였다. 이어서 소듐나이트레이트 leq (그 lg) 및 소듐아자이드 leq(6.1g)를 증류수에 녹여 1시간 간격으로 투입한다. 반응이 완료되면, NaOH로 중화한 다음 메탄올로 침전시키고, 물, 메탄을로 씻어준 다음 건조한다ᅳ 그렇게 얻어진
핵산:디클로로메탄 =9: l (v/v)로 실리카겔 컬럼하여 중간체 2(27.5g, Y=92%)를 얻었다. 단계 3:
중간체 2 (27.5g)를 0-다이클로로벤젠에 18시간 환류교반하여 반웅이 완료되면, 용매를 제거한다음, 디클로로메탄 /핵산으로 재결정하여 중간체 3(22.2g Y=88%)을 얻었다.
단계 4:
중간체 3 leq(22.2g) 를 3-브로모바이페닐 leq(17.8g) 와 소듐티부특사이드
2eq(14.6g), Pd2(dba)3 0.03eq(2.0g)를 를루엔 (300ml)에 현탁시킨 후 트리-터셔리-
부틸포스핀 0.09eq를 넣고 18 시간 동안 환류 교반하였다. 반웅 종료 후 롤루엔과 증류수로 추출 후 유기층을 마그네슘 설페이트로 건조, 여과하고 여과액을 감압 농축하였다. 유기 용액을 제거하고 핵산:디클로로메탄 =8:2(v/v)로 실리카겔 컬럼하여 생성물 고체를 디클로로메탄과 에틸아세테이트으로 재결정하여 중간체 4(16.8g Y=50%)를 얻었다.
단계 5:
중간체 4 leq(16.8g) 와 피나콜다이보론 1.2eq(l 1.6g), Pd(dppf)C12 0.5eq(1.6g) 포타슴아세테이트 2eq(7.5g) 를 무수디메틸포름아미드 (Dimethylforaiamide) (고형분의 12배수, 200ml)에 넣고 36시간 환류교반하였다. 반웅 종료 후 증류수로 침전시켰다. 침전시킨 유기고형분의 증류수를 완벽히 건조한 다음 디클로로메탄과
에틸아세테이트으로 재결정하여 중간체 5(8.5g Y=42%)를 얻었다.
단계 6:
중간체 5 leq(8.5g) 와 3ᅳ브로모 -9-페닐-카바졸 leq(5.1g)와 Pd(PP3)4 5mol%(0.9g), K2C03 2eq(4.4g)를 를루엔 (고형분의 12배수, 100ml)과 증류수 (K2C03량의

5mol%(3.5g), K2C03 2eq(16.7g)를 틀루엔 (고형분의 12배수, 240ml)과 증류수 (K2C03량의 5배수, 85ml)에 현탁시킨 후 질소기류 하에서 18시간 동안 환류 교반하였다. 반웅 종료 후 를루엔과 증류수로 추출 후 유기층을 마그네슴 설페이트로 건조, 여과하고 여과액을 감압 농축하였다. 유기 용액올 제거하고 핵산:디클로로메탄 =8:2(v/v)로 실리카겔 컬럼하여 생성물 고체를 디클로로메탄과 에틸아세테이트으로 재결정하여 2-페닐 -9페닐-카바졸 (17.0g Y=88%)을 얻었다.
단계 7:
2-페닐 -9페닐-카바졸 leq(17.0g) 와 N-브로모석신이미드 (NBS) 0.95eq(9.0g)을 디클로로메탄 200ml에 현탁시킨 후 질소 기류하에 8시간 교반하였다. 반웅 종료 후 물로 세척한 다음 물층을 제거하고, 유기층만 여과하여 여과액을 아세톤으로 재결정 하여 2-페닐 -3브로모 -9페닐-카바졸 (20.2g, 95%)을 얻었다.
단계 8:

3,6-다이브로모 -9-페닐-카바졸 leq(100.7g) 와 페닐보로닉 엑시드 leq(30.6g)와 Pd(PP3)4 5mol%(14.5g), K2C03 2eq(69.4g)를 를루엔 (고형분의 I2배수, 1200ml)과 증류수 (K2C03량의 5배수, 350ml)에 현탁시킨 후 질소기류 하에서 18시간 동안 환류
교반하였다. 반웅 종료 후 를루 ¾1과 증류수로 추출 후 유기층을 마그네슴 설페이트로 건조, 여과하고 여과액을 감압 농축하였다. 유기 용액을 제거하고 핵산:디클로로메탄 =9: 1 (v/v)로 실리카겔 컬럼하여 생성물 고체를 디클로로메탄과 아세톤으로 재결정하여 중간체 l(53.7g Y=54%)을 얻었다.
단계 2:
중간체 1 leq(20.0g) 와 피나콜다이보론 1.2eq(15.3g), Pd(dppf)C12 0.5eq(2.1g) 포타슘아세테이트 2eq(9.9g) 를 무수디메틸포름아미드 (Dimethylformamide) (고형분의 12배수, 240ml)에 넣고 36시간 환류교반하였다. 반응 종료 후 증류수로 침전시켰다. 침전시킨 유기고형분의 증류수를 완벽히 건조한 다음 디클로로메탄과
에틸아세테이트으로 재결정하여 중간체 2(15.6g Y=70%)를 얻었다.
단계 3 :
중간체 2 leq(15.6g) 와 중간체 1 leq(M.Og)와 Pd(PP3)4 5mol%(2.0g), K2C03 2eq(9.7g)를 를루엔 (고형분의 12배수, 190ml)과 증류수 (K2C03량의 5배수 ,50ml)에 현탁시킨 후 질소기류 하에서 18시간 동안 환류 교반하였다. 반웅 종료 후 를루엔과 증류수로 추출 후 유기층을 마그네슘 설페이트로 건조, 여과하고 여과액을 감압 농축하였다. 유기 용액을 제거하고 핵산:디클로로메탄 =8:2(v/v)로 실리카겔 컬럼하여 생성물 고체를 디클로로메탄과 에틸아세테이트으로 재결정하여 화합물 Hostl(10.4g Y=47%)을 얻었다.

9-페닐-카바졸 -3-보론 에스터 leq(l l . lg) 와 3브로모 -9-(4,6-다이페닐-피리미딘 -2- 일)카바졸 leq(M.9g)와 Pd(PP3)4 5mol%(1.8g), K2C03 2mol%(8.7g)를 틀루엔 (고형분의 12배수, 180ml)과 증류수 (K2C03량의 5배수, 45ml)에 현탁시킨 후 질소기류 하에서 18시간 동안 환류 교반하였다. 반웅 종료 후 롤루엔과 증류수로 추출 후 유기층을 마그네슴 설페이트로 건조, 여과하고 여과액을 감압 농축하였다. 유기 용액을 제거하고 핵산:디클로로메탄 -8:2(Wv)로 실리카겔 컬럼하여 생성물 고체를
디클로로메탄과 에틸아세테이트으로 재결정하여 Host3(14.3g Y=72%)을 얻었다.
평가 1: 열 안정성
합성예 1 내지 9와 비교합성예 3에 따른 유기 화합물의 열 안정성을
평가하였다.
열 안정성은 열중량분석 (Thermo Gravimetric Analysis, TGA) 및
시차주사열량측정법 (Differential Scanning Calorimetry, DSC)을 사용하여 질소
분위기에서 상온부터 800 °C (TGA) 및 상은부터 400 °C (DSC)까지 10 °C/min의 속도로 승온하면서 열분석하였다.
그 결과는 표 1과 같다.

표 1을 참고하면, 합성예 1 내지 9에서 얻은 유기 화합물은 비교합성예 1 내지 3에서 얻은 유기 화합물과 비교하여 열 안정성이 높은 것을 확인할 수 있다.
유기 발광소자의 제작 I
실시예 1
ITO 전극이 형성된 유리 기판을 50mm X 50mm X 0.5mm 크기로 잘라서 아세톤 이소프로필 알콜과 순수물 속에서 각 15분 동안 초음파 세정한 후, 30분 동안 UV 오존 세정하였다.
상기 ΠΌ 전극 상에 m-MTDATA를 증착 속도 1 A/sec로 진공 증착하여 600 A 두께의 정공 주입층을 형성하고, 상기 정공 주입층 상에 바이페닐 -4-일 -(9,9'- 다이메틸 -9H-플루오렌 -2-일 -)-[4-(9-페닐 -9H-카바졸 -3-일) -페닐] -아민)을 증착 속도 l A/sec로 진공 증착하여 300 A 두께의 정공 수송층을 형성하였다. 이어서, 상기 정공 수송충 상에 Ir(ppy)3(도편트)과 합성예 1에서 얻은 화합물 A-1을 10:90의 중량비로 공증착하여 400A의 두께의 발광층을 형성하였다. 이어서 상기 발광층 상에 BAlq을 증착 속도 1 A/sec로 진공 증착하여 50 A의 두께의 정공 저지층을 형성한 후, 상기 정공 저지층 상에 Alq3를 진공 증착하여 300A 두께의 전자
수송층을 형성하였다. 상기 전자 수송층 상에 LiF lOA (전자 주입층)과 A1 2000 A (캐소드)을 순차적으로 진공 증착하여, 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다.
실시예 2 내지 9
합성예 1에서 얻은 화합물 A- 1 대신 합성예 2 내지 합성예 9에서 얻은 A-2, A-3, A-9, A-12, A-18, A-33, A-55 및 A-62을 각각 사용한 것을 제외하고 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 실시예 2·내지 9에 따른 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다.
비교예 1
합성예 1에서 얻은 화합물 A-1 대신 CBP를 사용한 것을 제외하고 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다.
비교예 2 내지 4
합성예 1에서 얻은 화합물 A-1 대신 비교합성예 1 내지 3에 따른 HOST 1, HOST 2, HOST 3을 각각 사용한 것을 제외하고 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 비교예 2 내지 4에 해당하는 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다.
평가 2: 유기 발광소자의 성능 I
실시예 1 내지 9와 비교예 1 내지 4에 따른 유기발광소자의 전압에 따른 전류밀도 변화, 휘도 변화 및 발광효율을 측정하였다.
구체적인 측정방법은 하기와 같고, 그 결과는 표 2와 같다.
(1) 전압변화에 따른 전류밀도의 변화 측정
제조된 유기발광소자에 대해, 전압을 0V 부터 10V까지 상승시키면서 전류- 전압계 (Keithley 2400)를 이용하여 단위소자에 흐르는 전류값을 측정하고, 측정된 전류값을 면적으로 나누어 결과를 얻었다.
(2) 전압변화에 따른 휘도변화 측정
제조된 유기발광소자에 대해, 전압을 0V 부터 10V까지 상승시키면서 휘도계 (Minolta Cs-I OOOA)를 이용하여 그 때의 휘도를 측정하여 결과를 얻었다.
(3) 발광효율 측정
상기 (1) 및 (2)로부터 측정된 휘도와 전류밀도 및 전압을 이용하여 동일 전류밀도 (10 mA/cm2)의 전류 효율 (cd/A) 올 계산하였다.
(4) 수명 측정
휘도 (cd/m2)를 5000cd/m2로 유지하고 전류 효율 (cd/A)이 90%로 감소하는 시간을 측정하여 결과를 얻었다.

합성예 1에서 얻은 화합물 A-1 대신 CBP,HOSTl,HOST2,HOST3을 각각 사용한 것을 제외하고 실시예 10과 동일한 방법으로 비교예 5 내지 8에 해당하는 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다.
평가 3: 유기 발광소자의 성능 II
실시예 10 내지 16과 비교예 5 내지 8에 따른 유기발광소자의 전압에 따른 전류밀도 변화, 휘도 변화 및 발광효율을 측정하였다.
