Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a cylindrical battery provided with a sealing body having a current interruption mechanism.
  • Sealed batteries are roughly classified into cylindrical batteries, prismatic batteries, and pouch-type batteries depending on the shape and material of the exterior body that houses the electrode body that is a power generation element.
  • cylindrical batteries are used in a wide range of applications such as electric tools, electric assist bicycles, and electric vehicles. Therefore, the cylindrical battery is required to exhibit high safety even in a severe usage environment.
  • Patent Documents 1 and 2 are cited as prior art documents disclosing such a sealing body.
  • the sealing body disclosed in Patent Document 1 will be described below with reference to FIG.
  • FIG. 5 is formed by laminating an external terminal cap 51, a PTC element 52, an aluminum foil 53, and an aluminum foil 55 in a dish-shaped aluminum case 56.
  • the sealing member shown in FIG. A central portion of the aluminum foil 53 is connected to an aluminum foil 55 disposed on the inner side of the battery, and an outer peripheral portion of the aluminum foil 53 is insulated from an outer peripheral portion of the aluminum foil 55 by an insulating gasket 54.
  • a thin portion 55 a is formed on the aluminum foil 55. When the battery internal pressure rises, the thin portion 55a is broken and the current path inside the sealing body is interrupted. Thus, the current interruption mechanism utilizes the fact that a part of the metal member is broken by the battery internal pressure.
  • Patent Document 2 discloses that the cross-sectional shape of the thin portion of the internal terminal plate that breaks when current is interrupted is a polygon, and that the cross-sectional shape of the tip portion of the thin portion is a curved shape. • the groove part according to Patent Document 3 is provided to provide a safety valve to the battery case. Since the current interruption mechanism is required to operate stably at a pressure lower than that of the safety valve, it is difficult to apply the shape of the groove according to Patent Document 3 to the current interruption mechanism.
