- an adhesive for example, a reactive olefin adhesive such as an ultraviolet curable resin or a modified olefin adhesive using a solvent or an epoxy adhesive can be used. .
- the strength of the joint portions of the bundle members 12A and 12B is such that the joint portions cannot be unintentionally unraveled and can be easily removed by human hands when it is desired to remove them. In this way, in the intermediate branching operation, it is possible to remove the adhesive portion by hand without expanding the bundle members 12A and 12B and to widen the extraction site. Furthermore, if the bonding strength is not more than the breaking strength of each bundle material, and desirably not more than the yield point strength, the bundle material 12 can be peeled off without being fully extended.

- the shape of the bundle material 12 is a flat oval shape or a flat belt shape as shown in FIG. 4A
- the water-absorbing substance 125 may not necessarily be applied over the entire surface of the covering portion 122. In this case, at least when the bundle material 12 is wound around the bundle of the intermittently fixed tape core wires 11 (the plurality of optical fiber core wires 111), the water-absorbing substance 125 is applied to the surface in contact with the bundle. - the water-absorbing substance 125 is applied not in a state of being fixed to the surface of the covering portion 122 but in a state of being removable from the surface of the covering portion 122. Therefore, in the state where the bundle material 12A and the bundle material 12B are wound around the bundle of the intermittently fixed tape core wire 11 (the plurality of optical fiber core wires 111), a part of the water absorbing material 125 is detached from the surface of the covering portion 122. - the sheath 30 is formed of a resin such as a polyethylene resin.
- the tension member 40 is a strength member for preventing the tension applied to the optical fiber cable 1 from being directly transmitted to the optical fiber core 111 (FIG. 1).
- the tension member 40 is made of, for example, a steel wire.
- optical fiber unit 10 Waterproof characteristics of optical fiber unit 10>
- the optical fiber core wire 111 is in a state where moisture adheres over a wide range in the longitudinal direction. If moisture adheres to the optical fiber 111, the strength and life may be reduced, and the transmission loss of the optical fiber may be increased. Therefore, it is desirable that the optical fiber cable 1 has good waterproof properties. In particular, when the optical fiber cable 1 is laid underground, there is a high possibility that moisture will enter the cable, so that sufficient waterproof properties are required.
- the water-absorbing substance 125 is attached to the surface of the bundle material 12 that binds the bundle of the intermittently fixed tape core 11 (optical fiber core 111).
- bundle material 12 itself becomes the structure which is easy to absorb a water
- part of the water-absorbing substance 125 is detached from the surface of the bundle material 12, enters the optical fiber unit 10, and adheres to the optical fiber core 111.
- it is the structure which is easy to absorb a water
- optical fiber cables have been designed to be waterproof by winding a water absorbing yarn around the outer periphery of the optical fiber unit or by using a presser winding 15 (see FIG. 1) as a water absorbing sheet.
- these methods cannot absorb moisture that has entered the optical fiber unit, and cannot provide sufficient waterproof properties.
- more water absorbing yarns or the like are mounted in order to improve the waterproof property, there has been a problem that the outer diameter of the optical fiber cable becomes thick.
- the optical fiber cable 1 of the present embodiment there is a problem that the outer diameter of the optical fiber cable is increased while having sufficient waterproof properties by winding the bundle material 12 around the optical fiber unit 10. Hateful.
- the optical fiber cable 1 includes three optical fiber units 10A to 10C.
- the bundle material 12 in which the water absorbing material 125 is applied to each of the optical fiber units 10A to 10C is provided.
- the water-absorbing substance 125 is easily diffused in the entire area inside the optical fiber cable 1.
- the water absorbing material 125 can easily reach the central region of the optical fiber cable 1. Therefore, even when the optical fiber cable has a multi-core (for example, 500 cores or more) optical fiber core wires, it is possible to efficiently absorb moisture that has entered the inside.
- a multi-core for example, 500 cores or more
- FIG. 5 shows a result of comparison of waterproof properties between the optical fiber cable 1 of the first embodiment and a conventional optical fiber cable (comparative example).
- a presser winding 15 having water absorption is wound around a bundle of intermittently fixed tape core wires 11, and the bundle material 12 does not have water absorption.
- a waterproof test was performed when the number of optical fiber cores housed in the cable was changed in the range of 100 to 2000 cores, The waterproof property was evaluated.
- the waterproof test was conducted according to JIS C 6851-25 or IEC60794-1-2 (method F5), and a water running test was performed when water pressure of 1 m was applied from one end face of each cable. Under these conditions, the case where water did not flow out from the end surface opposite to the end surface on which water was introduced was evaluated as ⁇ , and the case where water flowed out was evaluated as x.
- the waterproof characteristics of both the present embodiment and the optical fiber cable of the comparative example are ⁇ .
- the waterproof characteristic of the optical fiber cable of the comparative example is x, whereas the waterproof characteristic of the optical fiber cable 1 of the present embodiment is ⁇ .
- the optical fiber cable of the comparative example moisture is absorbed by the presser winding 15 having water absorption that is wound around the outer peripheral portion of the bundle of optical fiber units. Therefore, it is possible to absorb the moisture at the outer peripheral portion of the optical fiber unit. However, it is difficult to absorb moisture that has entered the optical fiber unit. Therefore, when the optical fiber cable has a multi-core optical fiber having 500 or more cores, the waterproof property becomes insufficient. This is because as the number of optical fiber cores increases, the bundle of optical fiber units becomes thicker, so that it becomes difficult to absorb moisture that has entered inside.
- the bundle material 12 has a structure that is also arranged near the center of the optical fiber cable 1, and therefore easily absorbs moisture that has entered the optical fiber cable. Furthermore, in the optical fiber cable of the present embodiment, moisture is easily absorbed by the water absorbing material 125 that is detached from the bundle material 12 and attached to the optical fiber core 111. Thereby, even if the optical fiber cable has a multi-core optical fiber having 500 or more cores, good waterproof characteristics can be obtained.
- FIG. 6 shows the results of a test conducted on the relationship between the water absorption magnification and the waterproof property of the bundle material.
- the water absorption ratio of the bundle material is a volume ratio of the bundle material before absorbing water and after absorbing water.
- the bundle material 12 (water-absorbing substance 125) swells by absorbing moisture and increases in volume. In other words, the higher the water absorption ratio of the bundle material, the more moisture can be absorbed.
- the optical fiber cable 1 used for the waterproof test is a multi-core cable having 2000 optical fiber cores 111. About such a cable, the waterproof test was done, changing the water absorption capacity
- the waterproof test method and conditions are the same as in the case of FIG.
- the optical fiber unit 10 is stored differently.
- the configuration of the optical fiber unit 10 and the bundle material 12 itself is substantially the same as that of the first embodiment.
- FIG. 7 is a cross-sectional view of the optical fiber cable 1 in a modification of the first embodiment.

- the slot-type optical fiber cable is an optical fiber cable having a structure that has a slot which is a groove part for accommodating a single core of an optical fiber or an optical fiber tape in the optical fiber cable.
- the modified optical fiber cable 1 includes an optical fiber unit 10, a slot core 20, a sheath 30, and a tension member 40.
- the function of each member other than the slot core 20 is as described in FIG.
- the slot core 20 is a member corresponding to the base of the optical fiber cable 1 according to the modification, and a plurality of slots 21 are provided at predetermined intervals on the outer periphery.
- the slot 21 is a groove that opens toward the outer side (outer peripheral side) in the radial direction of the slot core 20, and ribs 22 are formed at both ends of the slot 21.
- Each slot 21 accommodates the optical fiber units 10 bundled together.
- the shape of the slot 21 is substantially U-shaped, and it is easy to store the optical fiber units 10 collected in a bundle.

Description

<変形例>
