Further, both ends of each of the first battery 100 and the second battery 200 are connected to the power source 600 and charged as necessary.
- a switch 700 is disposed between the first battery 100 and the second battery 200.
- the first battery 100 and the second battery 200 are, for example, the batteries shown in FIG.
- the first battery 100 is, for example, a LiFePO 4 type lithium ion battery having a nominal voltage of 57.6V, and has a configuration in which 18 battery cells having a nominal voltage of 3.2V are connected in series.
- the first battery 100 is preferably provided with a protection circuit 800 (see FIG. 7) for monitoring charge / discharge for ensuring safety.
- the second battery 200 is, for example, an open-type lead storage battery having a nominal voltage of 48V, and has a configuration in which 24 battery cells having a nominal voltage of 2V are connected in series.
- the first battery 100 and the second battery 200 are, for example, the batteries shown in FIG.
- the first battery 100 is, for example, an NCR18650A (LiNiO2) type lithium ion battery having a nominal voltage of 57.6V, and 16 battery cells having a nominal voltage of 3.6V are connected in series.
- the configuration is as follows. Also in this case, it is desirable that the first battery 100 is provided with a protection circuit 800 (see FIG. 7).
- the second battery 200 is the same as the example shown in FIG.
- the first battery 100 is, for example, a lithium titanate battery having a nominal voltage of 57.6V, and has a configuration in which 24 battery cells having a nominal voltage of 2.4V are connected in series. . Also in this case, it is desirable that the first battery 100 is provided with a protection circuit 800 (see FIG. 7).
- the second battery 200 is the same as the example shown in FIGS.
- the 7 executes control of the entire system, and has a function of controlling the charge / discharge state, voltage, current, and the like of the first battery 100 and the second battery 200.
- the load 500 is, for example, an electric vehicle motor.
- the power source 600 is a commercial power source, for example, and is connected to the first battery 100 and the second battery 200 via an outlet (not shown) or the like.
- the power source 600 may include an electric vehicle motor. In this case, regenerative energy is supplied to the first battery 100 and the second battery 200.
- the switch 700 has a current inflow state from the first battery 100 to the second battery 200, such as when current continues to flow from the first battery 100 to the second battery 200 for a predetermined time, and
- the battery 200 has a function of cutting off the current according to at least one of the voltage change states of the battery 200. More specifically, the switch 700 is, for example, when a current of a predetermined value or more continuously flows from the first battery 100 to the second battery 200 for a predetermined time or more, or when the current is a predetermined value or less. When the voltage of the second battery 200 becomes equal to or lower than a predetermined value, the current is cut off.
- the reason for providing the switch 700 is as follows.
- first battery 100 and the second battery 200 are charged to the same voltage, then the charging is stopped, and the first battery 100 and the second battery 200 are left connected. . In this case, a current flows from the first battery 100 to the second battery 200.
- the first battery 100 is more excellent in capacity recovery in the discharge storage than in the charge storage. Therefore, it is preferable from the viewpoint of extending the life of the first battery 100 that the first battery 100 is discharged to the second battery 200 after charging.
- the second battery 200 is more excellent in capacity recovery in charge storage than in discharge storage. Therefore, maintaining the voltage of the second battery 200 high after charging is preferable in terms of extending the life of the second battery 200.
- the battery system 10a can maintain good characteristics for both the first battery 100 and the second battery 200.
- the switch 700 may be arranged not on the first battery 100 side but on the second battery 200 side.
- the voltage of the first battery 100 follows the gradual voltage change in the stable region B2 of the second battery 200 as described above. Will not drop. Therefore, the control circuit 400 can accurately monitor the voltage of the entire battery, and can more reliably suppress the risk of overdischarge of the first battery 100.
- the battery system 10a according to the present embodiment can be increased in capacity at low cost and can have a long life by combining the first battery 100 and the second battery 200. It is possible to optimize the usage state. That is, the battery system 10a according to the present embodiment has the characteristics that the capacity can be increased at low cost, the charge acceptance performance is high, and the performance is not easily lowered. Further, as described above, the present invention can be applied to various types of lithium ion batteries having different cell voltages.
- the 2nd battery 200 is a lead acid battery, when it discharges to a low charge state (over discharge) as above-mentioned, deterioration will progress and it has the characteristic that a cycle life falls.
- the first battery 100 may have higher output and higher capacity than the second battery 200. Thereby, after the first battery 100 is discharged, the second battery 200 can be discharged, and the second battery 200 can be kept in a charged state as high as possible.
- first battery 100 it is particularly desirable to employ a lithium ion battery that easily makes a difference in both output and capacity with respect to a lead-acid battery, but a nickel metal hydride battery may also be employed.
- high output means that the rated capacity ratio when discharged at 1 It is higher than that of the battery to be compared.
- the rated capacity ratio of the lead storage battery is about 50%.
- the rated capacity ratio of a lithium ion battery or a nickel metal hydride battery is about 90%. Therefore, the first battery 100 can be set to a higher output than the second battery 200 by using the first battery 100 as a lithium ion battery or a nickel metal hydride battery and the second battery 200 as a lead storage battery.
- high capacity means that the volume energy density or weight energy density is higher than that of the comparison target battery.
- an open type lead-acid battery has a nominal voltage of 48 V and a capacity of 725 Ah, that is, an energy of 34800 Wh and a total weight of about 1175 kg and a volume of about 13.2 L.
- Such an open-type lead acid battery has a weight energy density of about 30 Wh / kg (volume energy density 109 Wh / L), and has the largest capacity among lead acid batteries. That is, it is assumed that the energy density of other lead acid batteries does not exceed the energy density of such open lead acid batteries.
- the lithium ion battery for example, has a nominal voltage of 3.6 V and a capacity of 2 Ah, that is, an energy of 7.2 Wh and a total weight of about 0.045 kg and a volume of about 0.0165 L.
- Such a lithium ion battery has a weight energy density of about 160 Wh / kg (volume energy density of 435 Wh / L).
- the nickel metal hydride battery has, for example, a nominal voltage of 1.2 V and a capacity of 5 Ah, that is, an energy of 6 Wh and a total weight of about 0.15 kg and a volume of about 0.0424 L.
- Such a nickel metal hydride battery has a weight energy density of about 40 Wh / kg (volume energy density of 141 Wh / L).
- the lithium ion battery or nickel metal hydride battery has a higher capacity than the lead storage battery. Therefore, the first battery 100 is a lithium ion battery or nickel metal hydride battery having a weight energy density of 35 Wh / kg or more, and the second battery 200 is a lead storage battery, so that the first battery 100 is more than the second battery 200. High capacity can be achieved.
- the cycle life characteristics of a lithium ion battery become worse as the rest time (storage) between charging and discharging becomes longer. This is because when the battery is left in a charged state, the high voltage state is maintained, so that the electrolyte inside the battery cell deteriorates due to the high voltage of the battery itself, and adversely affects the characteristics of the battery cell. Because.
- a countermeasure may be considered such that a resistor is provided in the battery and the voltage is reduced by discharging the resistor.
- EV Electric Vehicle
- the control circuit 400 desirably controls the operation of the switch 700 so that the pause time is as short as possible.
- FIG. 11 is a diagram for explaining an example of the control of the switch 700.
- the vertical axis represents the battery voltage
- the horizontal axis represents time.
- the charging is performed continuously for a relatively short time of about one hour, such as the lunch break described in FIG. 5D, that is, the charging ends in the middle before full charging. ing.
- the control circuit 400 connects the switch 700 to make the first battery 100 and the second battery 200 conductive.
- first both the first battery 100 (lithium ion battery) and the second battery 200 (lead storage battery) are charged (section 911). Then, the charging is continued, and at the stage where the first battery 100 and the second battery 200 are charged to the predetermined voltage Va 1 at time s 1 , the charger is stopped or the charging is stopped by the user.
- the control circuit 400 maintains the connection of the switch 700 after time s 1 so that current flows from the first battery 100 to the second battery 200 (section 912).
- the control circuit 400 causes the switch 700 to switch. Cut off. That is, the control circuit 400 prevents current from flowing from the first battery 100 to the second battery 200.
- the control circuit 400 may repeat the interruption and reconnection of the switch 700 intermittently until the threshold value Vth 1 is reached.
- the first battery 100 as a lithium ion battery can be used stably for a longer time.
- control circuit 400 may control the operation of the switch 700 so that the voltage at the end of charging of the first battery 100 can be kept low.
- FIG. 12 is a diagram for explaining another example of the control of the switch 700, and corresponds to FIG.
- the control circuit 400 connects the switch 700 to make the first battery 100 and the second battery 200 conductive.
- first both the first battery 100 (lithium ion battery) and the second battery 200 (lead storage battery) are charged (section 921).
- This voltage Vb is a preset full charge voltage of the first battery 100.
- the control circuit 400 switches to charge control with a constant current, and only the second battery 200 is charged.
- charging is performed up to a predetermined voltage Va (section 922).
- the voltage Va is a preset full charge voltage of the second battery 200.
- the first battery 100 is maintained at the full charge voltage Vb, and is continuously maintained at a relatively high voltage as compared with the case shown in FIG. For this reason, there is a possibility that the degree of deterioration is relatively high compared to the case shown in FIG.
- the second battery 200 can be used as a resistance for discharging the first battery 100. That is, it is possible to suppress the voltage during the downtime of the first battery 100 without providing a new discharging resistor in the first battery 100. Furthermore, by supplementing the self-discharge of the second battery 200, the energy discharged by the first battery 100 can be absorbed by the second battery 200, and the overall energy loss can be suppressed.
- the control circuit 400 shuts off the switch 700 again. That is, the control circuit 400 prevents current from flowing from the first battery 100 to the second battery 200. As a result, it is possible to prevent the current flowing from the first battery 100 to the second battery 200 from continuing for a long time and reducing the capacity of the first battery 100.
