Abstract

 本発明の目的は、筒内燃料噴射装置を有する内燃機関において圧縮行程噴射のメリットを生かしつつ、吸気行程噴射によるメリットをより広い運転域で得られるようにすることである。この目的のため、本発明が提供する燃料噴射制御装置は、内燃機関の運転状態或いは環境条件により吸気行程で噴射する燃料量と圧縮行程で噴射する燃料量との噴き分け比率を設定し、設定した噴き分け比率に従い、要求される燃料の一部若しくは全部を吸気行程で噴射し、残りを圧縮行程で噴射するよう筒内燃料噴射装置を操作する。そして、筒内に吸入される空気の温度が筒内燃料噴射装置から噴射される燃料の温度よりも高いと判断できる場合には、低いと判断できる場合に比較して、吸気行程で噴射する燃料量の割合を大きくするよう噴き分け比率を設定する。

Description

内燃機関の燃料噴射制御装置
 本発明は、内燃機関の燃料噴射制御装置に関し、詳しくは、筒内燃料噴射装置を有する内燃機関の燃料噴射制御装置に関する。
 筒内燃料噴射装置を有する内燃機関の場合、燃料噴射のモードとして、吸気行程にて燃料を噴射する吸気行程噴射と圧縮行程にて燃料を噴射する圧縮行程噴射の2つの噴射モードを採ることができる。ただし、各噴射モードにはそれぞれにメリットとデメリットがある。吸気行程噴射の場合は、燃料が気化する際の気化潜熱によって筒内に吸入される空気の温度を低下させ、それにより空気の充填効率を向上させることができるというメリットがある。しかし、燃料が気化し難い低温時には、吸気行程で筒内に噴射された燃料がシリンダ壁に付着し、未燃のままHCやスモークとなって筒内から排出されてしまうというデメリットもある。一方、圧縮行程噴射の場合は、気化潜熱によって充填効率を向上させる効果は得られないものの、圧縮によって高温になった雰囲気に燃料が噴射されることから、気化せずにシリンダ壁に付着してしまう燃料を低減することができる。
 特開2005-061332号公報には、上記のようなメリット・デメリットを有する各噴射モードの使い分けに関する具体例が記載されている。この公報に記載された技術によれば、始動開始からの暫くの間は圧縮行程噴射が選択され、圧縮行程噴射での燃料噴射量積算値或いは燃料噴射回数積算値が閾値に達したら圧縮行程噴射から吸気行程噴射へと切り替えられる。前記の閾値は、十分に暖まったときのシリンダ壁面温度に対応する燃料噴射量積算値或いは燃料噴射回数積算値であって、始動開始時点における冷却水温、燃料噴射弁に供給される燃料圧力、及び機関停止時間のうちの少なくとも一つに基づいて設定される。

 上記公報に記載の技術によれば、各噴射モードの特徴をともに生かすことができる。しかし、機関出力の向上という観点からは、充填効率の向上が期待できる吸気行程噴射をより広い運転域で利用できるようにしたい。
 本発明はこのような課題に鑑みなされたものであって、その目的は筒内燃料噴射装置を有する内燃機関において圧縮行程噴射のメリットを生かしつつ、吸気行程噴射によるメリットをより広い運転域で得られるようにすることである。
 本発明が提供する燃料噴射制御装置の一つの形態によれば、燃料噴射制御装置が備える噴き分け比率設定ユニットによって、内燃機関の運転状態或いは環境条件により吸気行程で噴射する燃料量と圧縮行程で噴射する燃料量との噴き分け比率が設定される。そして、燃料噴射制御装置が備える操作ユニットにより、設定した噴き分け比率に従い、要求される燃料の一部若しくは全部を吸気行程で噴射し、残りを圧縮行程で噴射するよう筒内燃料噴射装置を操作することが行われる。噴き分け比率設定ユニットによる噴き分け比率の設定の段階においては、筒内に吸入される空気の温度が筒内燃料噴射装置から噴射される燃料の温度よりも高いか低いかが判定される。
 上記の判定の結果、筒内に吸入される空気の温度のほうが高いと判断できる場合には、噴き分け比率設定ユニットは、筒内に吸入される空気の温度のほうが低いと判断できる場合に比較して吸気行程で噴射する燃料量の割合を大きくするよう噴き分け比率を設定する。好ましくは次のように噴き分け比率を設定する。まず、筒内に吸入される空気の温度が筒内燃料噴射装置から噴射される燃料の温度よりも低いと判断できる場合には、圧縮行程で噴射する燃料量の割合を吸気行程で噴射する燃料量の割合よりも大きくするような噴き分け比率の設定とする。そして、筒内に吸入される空気の温度が筒内燃料噴射装置から噴射される燃料温度よりも高いと判断できる場合には、要求燃料の全部を吸気行程で噴射するような噴き分け比率の設定とする。
 筒内に吸入される空気の温度が筒内燃料噴射装置から噴射される燃料の温度よりも高い場合には、高い温度の空気との接触によって燃料は微粒化しやすい。また、そのような状況ではシリンダ壁面に付着する燃料量は少なく、付着した燃料も蒸発しやすい。したがって、吸気行程で噴射する燃料量の割合を大きくしたとしても、それによりHCやスモークの排出量が増えてしまうことは殆どない。一方、吸気行程で噴射する燃料量の割合を大きくすることで、燃料が気化するときの気化潜熱によって吸入空気を冷却し、それにより充填効率を向上させる効果はより高まることになる。反対に筒内に吸入される空気の温度のほうが低い場合には、高い場合に比較して圧縮行程で噴射する燃料量の割合を大きくするよう噴き分け比率が設定されることになるので、気化せずにシリンダ壁に付着してしまう燃料を低減することができる。これらのことから分かるように、本発明が提供する燃料噴射制御装置の一つの形態によれば、圧縮行程噴射のメリットを生かしつつ、吸気行程噴射によるメリットをより広い運転域で得られるようになる。

 図1は、本発明の実施の形態の燃料噴射制御装置が適用される内燃機関のシステム構成を示す図である。本実施の形態にかかる内燃機関は、ガソリンを燃料とする火花点火式の4ストロークレシプロエンジン(以下、単にエンジンという)である。本実施の形態にかかるエンジンは、排気ガスのエネルギを利用して空気(新気)を圧縮するターボ過給機4を備えている。ターボ過給機4のコンプレッサ6は吸気通路10に配置され、タービン8は排気通路16に配置されている。吸気通路10におけるコンプレッサ6の下流にはインタークーラ12が取り付けられ、さらにその下流にはスロットル14が配置されている。また、本実施の形態にかかる過給エンジンは、排気通路16から吸気通路10へ排気ガスを再循環させるEGR装置20を搭載している。EGR装置20は、排気通路16のタービン8よりも上流の部位を吸気通路10のスロットル14よりも下流の部位に接続するEGR通路22と、EGR通路22に設けられるEGR弁24、EGRクーラ26及びEGR触媒28によって構成されている。
 本実施の形態にかかるエンジンは、筒内に直接燃料を噴射することのできる筒内燃料噴射装置を備えた直噴エンジンでもある。筒内燃料噴射装置は、エンジン本体2に取り付けられた直噴インジェクタ30と、図示しない高圧ポンプを含む燃料供給システムとから構成されている。このような筒内燃料噴射装置を有する直噴エンジンでは、燃料の噴射モードとして、吸気行程で燃料を噴射する吸気行程噴射と、圧縮行程で燃料を噴射する圧縮行程噴射とを採ることができる。
 また、本実施の形態のエンジンにはECU50が備えられる。ECU50はエンジンのシステム全体を総合制御する制御装置である。ECU50の出力側には、前述の直噴インジェクタ30等のアクチュエータが接続され、ECU50の入力側には、エンジン本体2やその周辺に取り付けられた様々なセンサが接続されている。そのようなセンサの一例としては、吸気通路10のサージタンクに取り付けられた吸気温センサ40や、エンジン本体2に取り付けられた水温センサ42を挙げることができる。ECU50は、各センサからの信号を受けて所定の制御プログラムにしたがって各アクチュエータを操作する。なお、ECU50に接続されるアクチュエータやセンサは図中に示すように他にも多数存在するが、本明細書においてはその説明は省略する。
 本実施の形態の燃料噴射制御装置は、ECU50の1つの機能として実現されている。ECU50が燃料噴射制御装置として機能する場合、ECU50は、2つの信号処理ユニット、すなわち、噴き分け比率設定ユニット52及びインジェクタ操作ユニット54の組み合わせで表現される。これら信号処理ユニットは、それぞれが専用のハードウェアで構成されていてもよいし、ハードウェアは共有してソフトウェアによって仮想的に構成されるものでもよい。
 噴き分け比率設定ユニット52は、吸気行程噴射による燃料噴射の割合と圧縮行程噴射による燃料噴射の割合との比率、つまり、燃料の噴き分け比率を設定する信号処理ユニットである。設定された噴き分け比率における吸気行程噴射の割合が0%であれば、全ての燃料が圧縮行程噴射によって噴射されることになる。また。吸気行程噴射の割合が100%であれば、全ての燃料が吸気行程噴射によって噴射されることになる。それ以外の場合には、燃料は圧縮行程噴射と吸気行程噴射とに分割して噴射されることになる。
 インジェクタ操作ユニット54は、設定された噴き分け比率に従って直噴インジェクタ30を操作する信号処理ユニットである。インジェクタ操作ユニット54は、要求される燃料量に吸気行程噴射の割合を掛けたものを吸気行程噴射による燃料量とし、その燃料量を吸気行程にて直噴インジェクタ30に噴射させる。そして、残りの燃料量を圧縮行程にて直噴インジェクタ30に噴射させる。
 噴き分け比率設定ユニット52は、燃料の噴き分け比率をエンジンの運転状態や環境条件に応じて設定する。エンジンの運転状態や環境条件に関する情報は、エンジンが備える各種のセンサによって取得される。ただし、ここで用いられる情報は吸気温と水温であり、それぞれ吸気温センサ40と水温センサ42によって測定することができる。これらの情報を用いて行われる噴き分け比率の設定のためのルーチンをフローチャートで示したものが図2である。噴き分け比率設定ユニット52は、少なくともエンジンの始動時には、図2に示すルーチンに従って燃料の噴き分け比率を設定する。
 図2のフローチャートによれば、最初のステップS2において水温と所定の設定値との比較が行われる。この設定値は、エンジンの状態が圧縮行程噴射のメリットを期待できるような低温状態かどうか、言い換えれば、吸気行程噴射のみではそのデメリットが顕著になるような低温状態かどうか判断するための基準となる値である。水温がこの設定値以上になっているならば、エンジンは既に十分に暖まっているとみなすことができるので圧縮行程噴射を実施する必要はない。したがって、この場合にはステップS6の処理が選択される。ステップS6では燃料の複数回噴射が禁止され、吸気行程噴射による燃料噴射のみが1回実施される。
 一方、水温が設定値よりも低い場合には、エンジンは未だ十分に暖まっていないとみなすことができる。エンジンが十分に暖まっていなければ、吸気行程噴射によって燃料を噴射した場合、その燃料が十分に微粒化せずにシリンダ壁面に付着してしまう可能性がある。しかし、エンジンが暖まっていなくとも筒内に吸入される空気の温度が高ければ、高い温度の空気との接触によって燃料は微粒化しやすい。また、そのような状況ではシリンダ壁面に付着する燃料量は少なく、付着した燃料も蒸発しやすいと考えられる。
 そこで、次のステップS4では、水温と吸気温との比較が行われる。ここでいう水温とはエンジン本体2のウォータージャケットを流れる冷却水の温度であるが、その温度は直噴インジェクタ30から噴射される燃料の温度と略等しい。直噴インジェクタ30に燃料を供給するデリバリパイプはシリンダヘッドに組み付けられているため、その内部の燃料の温度はエンジン本体2の温度に強く影響されるためである。したがって、水温と吸気温とを比較することは、直噴インジェクタ30から噴射される燃料の温度と筒内に吸入される空気の温度とを比較することに等しい。
 エンジンの始動時における水温と吸気温との関係には、図3に示すような態様と図4に示すような態様がある。一般的には、図4に示すように、水温よりも吸気温のほうが低い場合が多い。しかし、図3に示すように、条件によっては水温よりも吸気温のほうが高くなる場合も有りうる。そのような条件の1例としては、オイルやEGRガス等によるデポジットの付着によってインタークーラ12の内部に詰まりが生じ、それにより空気の冷却効率が低下したことを挙げることができる。また、インタークーラ12が水冷である場合には、循環ポンプの故障により冷却水がうまく循環しなくなったときにも水温より吸気温のほうが高くなり得る。また、長期間の停止後の始動時にエンジン室内の高温空気が吸入されたときにも水温より吸気温のほうが高くなり得る。さらに、低水温の状態での高負荷登坂時にも水温より吸気温のほうが高くなり得る。
 図4に示すように水温よりも吸気温が低い場合には、燃料温度よりも吸気温が低いことから、空気と燃料の接触による燃料の微粒化は進まない。一方、図3に示すように水温よりも吸気温が高い場合には、燃料温度よりも吸気温が高いことから、空気と燃料の接触により燃料の微粒化は促進される。つまり、水温と吸気温との間の大小関係は、筒内での燃料の微粒化の状況に大きな違いを生じさせる。このような理由により、本実施の形態では、次に述べるように、水温と吸気温のどちらが高いかによって燃料の噴き分け比率の設定を異ならせている。
 水温よりも吸気温が低い場合には、ステップS8の処理が選択される。ステップS8では燃料の複数回噴射が許可され、燃料は吸気行程噴射と圧縮行程噴射とに分割して噴射される。このときの噴き分け比率は、圧縮行程噴射による燃料量の割合が吸気行程噴射による燃料量の割合以上になるように設定される。吸気行程噴射による燃料の量を減らし、シリンダ壁面への燃料付着を極力抑えるためである。
 水温よりも吸気温が高い場合には、ステップS6の処理が選択される。ステップS6では燃料の複数回噴射は禁止され、吸気行程噴射による燃料噴射のみが1回実施される。つまり、この場合は、吸気行程噴射による燃料量の割合が100%になるように噴き分け比率が設定される。水温よりも吸気温が高い状況では燃料は微粒化しやすく、シリンダ壁面に付着する燃料量は少ない。また、付着した燃料も蒸発しやすい。したがって、全ての燃料を吸気行程で噴射したとしても、それによるHCやスモークの排出量が増えてしまうことは殆どない。圧縮行程噴射をやめて全ての燃料を吸気行程で噴射することで、燃料が気化するときの気化潜熱によって吸入空気を冷却し、それにより充填効率を向上させることができる。
 以上が本発明の実施の形態についての説明である。ただし、本発明は上述の実施の形態に限定されるものではなく、本発明の趣旨を逸脱しない範囲で種々変形して実施することができる。例えば、次のように変形して実施してもよい。
 上述の実施の形態において水温よりも吸気温が高い場合、圧縮行程噴射を完全にやめるのではなく、水温よりも吸気温が低い場合に比較して圧縮行程噴射の割合を減らすのでもよい。圧縮行程噴射の割合を減らし、その分、吸気行程噴射の割合を増やすことで、空気の充填効率を向上させることができる。また、水温よりも吸気温が低い場合には、燃料を吸気行程噴射と圧縮行程噴射とに分割して噴射するのではなく、全ての燃料を圧縮行程噴射のみで噴射するのでもよい。
 上述の実施の形態では冷却水の水温によって燃料の温度を推定しているが、油温によって燃料の温度を推定してもよい。また、デリバリパイプに温度センサを取り付けて直噴インジェクタ30から噴射される燃料の温度を直接測定するようにしてもよい。
 本発明の燃料噴射制御装置は機械式の過給機を備えたエンジンにも適用することができる。さらに、過給エンジンだけでなく、自然吸気型のエンジンにも本発明を適用することができる。ただし、燃料温度よりも吸気温が高くなる状況は、コンプレッサによって空気の圧縮が行われる過給エンジンのほうが生じやすい。したがって、本発明による効果は、本発明を過給エンジンに適用した場合により顕著なものとなる。

Claims (3)

  1.  筒内燃料噴射装置を有する内燃機関の燃料噴射制御装置において、
     前記内燃機関の運転状態或いは環境条件により吸気行程で噴射する燃料量と圧縮行程で噴射する燃料量との噴き分け比率を設定する噴き分け比率設定手段と、
     設定された噴き分け比率に従い、要求される燃料の一部若しくは全部を吸気行程で噴射し、残りを圧縮行程で噴射するよう前記筒内燃料噴射装置を操作する操作手段とを備え、
     前記噴き分け比率設定手段は、筒内に吸入される空気の温度が前記筒内燃料噴射装置から噴射される燃料の温度よりも高いと判断できる場合には、低いと判断できる場合に比較して、吸気行程で噴射する燃料量の割合を大きくするよう前記噴き分け比率を設定することを特徴とする内燃機関の燃料噴射制御装置。
  2.  前記噴き分け比率設定手段は、筒内に吸入される空気の温度が前記筒内燃料噴射装置から噴射される燃料の温度よりも低いと判断できる場合には、圧縮行程で噴射する燃料量の割合を吸気行程で噴射する燃料量の割合よりも大きくするよう前記噴き分け比率を設定し、筒内に吸入される空気の温度が前記筒内燃料噴射装置から噴射される燃料の温度よりも高いと判断できる場合には、要求燃料の全部を吸気行程で噴射するよう前記噴き分け比率を設定することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の内燃機関の燃料噴射制御装置。
  3.  前記内燃機関は過給機付きの内燃機関であることを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の内燃機関の燃料噴射制御装置。
