Abstract
Description
前記リチウムイオン二次電池の残容量及び温度を検出し、前記残容量及び温度と予め関連付けられた基準電圧E1に達するまで、前記リチウムイオン二次電池の充電を行うことを特徴とするリチウムイオン二次電池の充電方法である。
基準電圧E1は、例えば、検出された電池温度が40~60℃の範囲であり、検出された残容量がリチウムイオン二次電池の定格容量の80~95%の範囲であるとき、リチウムイオン二次電池の満充電時の電圧に対して90~99.5%の範囲、より好ましくは、90~99%の範囲に設定される。
前記リチウムイオン二次電池の温度を検出する温度検出部と、
前記リチウムイオン二次電池の電圧を検出する電圧測定部と、
前記残容量検出部、前記温度検出部、及び前記電圧測定部からの入力信号を受けて、前記リチウムイオン二次電池の充電を制御する充電制御部と、を備え、
前記充電制御部が、上記の充電方法で前記リチウムイオン二次電池を充電する充電システムである。
図1は、本発明の一実施形態に係るリチウムイオン二次電池の充電方法の各ステップを説明するためのフローチャートである。図2は、その充電方法が適用される、リチウムイオン二次電池の充電システムの構成を模式的に示す機能ブロック図である。
予備充電工程を実施せず、放電後の電池11の残容量及び温度を直ちに検出し、検出された残容量および温度により基準電圧E1を設定してもよい。この場合は、電池11の残容量としては、上記で求められた充電開始前の電池11の残容量AQが用いられる。
正極集電体30は、例えば、ステンレス鋼、チタン、アルミニウム、アルミニウム合金等の金属材料からなる金属箔である。正極集電体30の厚さは、好ましくは、5μm~50μmである。
正極合剤スラリーは、更に、カルボキシメチルセルロース、ポリエチレンオキシド、変性ポリアクリロニトリルゴム等の増粘剤を含むことができる。
負極合剤スラリーは、更に、導電剤、増粘剤等を含むことができる。導電剤及び増粘剤としては、正極合剤スラリーに用いられるのと同じ導電剤及び増粘剤を使用できる。
(実施例1)
(a)正極板の作製
正極活物質には、コバルトとアルミニウムを含むリチウム含有ニッケル複合酸化物であるLiNi0.85Co0.15Al0.05O2を用いた。
正極活物質85質量部、炭素粉末10質量部、及びポリフッ化ビニリデン5質量部のN-メチル-2-ピロリドン溶液を混合し、正極合剤スラリーを調製した。この正極合剤スラリーを、厚さ15μmのアルミニウム箔(正極集電体)の片面に塗布し、得られた塗膜を乾燥及び圧延し、厚さ70μmの正極を作製した。得られた正極を裁断し、20mm角の活物質形成部と、5mm角のリード取り付け部と、を備える正極板を作製した。
(b-1)負極集電体の作製
表面に複数の凹部が千鳥格子状に配置された鍛鋼ローラと表面の平滑なステンレス鋼製ローラとを、それぞれの軸線が平行になるように圧接させ、圧接ニップ部を形成した。この圧接ニップ部に、帯状で厚さ35μmの電解銅箔(古河サーキットフォイル(株)製)を線圧1t/cmで通過させることにより、片面に複数の凸部が形成された負極集電体を作製した。
図4は、電子ビーム式真空蒸着装置40((株)アルバック製、以下「蒸着装置40」とする)の内部構成を模式的に示す側面図である。図4では、上記で得られた負極集電体を、負極集電体32として示している。即ち、負極集電体32は、片方の表面に複数の凸部32aを有している。
負極活物質原料(ターゲット43):珪素、純度99.9999%、(株)高純度化学研究所製
ノズル44から放出される酸素:純度99.7%、日本酸素(株)製
ノズル44からの酸素放出流量:80sccm
電子ビームの加速電圧:-8kV
エミッション:500mA
図4に示す実線位置及び破線位置における各1回の蒸着時間:3分
エチレンカーボネートとエチルメチルカーボネートとジエチルカーボネートとの体積比2:3:5の混合溶媒に、LiPF6を1.2モル/Lの濃度で溶解した。この溶液100質量部に対してビニレンカーボネート5質量部を混合し、非水電解液を調製した。
正極板と負極板との間に、ポリエチレン製多孔質膜(厚さ20μm、商品名:ハイポア、旭化成(株)製)を介在させて、これらを積層し、積層型電極群を作製した。アルミニウムリードの一端を正極集電体に溶接し、ニッケルリードの一端を負極集電体に溶接した。次に、アルミニウムラミネートフィルムから作製された電池ケースに積層型電極群と非水電解液とを収容し、アルミニウムリード及びニッケルリードの夫々の他端を電池ケースの開口から外部に導出した。電池ケース内部を真空減圧しながら、ポリプロピレン製ガスケットを介して電池ケースの開口を溶着し、リチウムイオン二次電池(定格容量400mAh)を作製した。

(1)予備充電工程
まず、予備基準電圧E2は、通常の使用状態での電池の温度範囲を-10~60℃と考えて、その上限温度である60℃において、正極活物質の利用率が100%を超えない電池の充電終止電圧を、実験により求めた。その結果、そのような充電終止電圧は4.15Vと求められた。それに基づいて、予備基準電圧を4Vと決めた。この予備基準電圧は、充電終止電圧の約96%である。
次にnサイクル目の残容量検出工程において(n>2)、n-1サイクル目の放電時間を参照し、電池の定格容量は400mAhであるため、(1.0C×400×(n-1)サイクル目の放電時間(分)÷60)を残容量として算出した。ただし、n=1の場合は定格容量を参照した。
本実施例では、電池温度は45℃であった。
作製された電池について、残容量350mAh及び電池温度45℃で、正極の利用率を95%に設定した場合、基準電圧E1(ここでの充電終止電圧)は4.075Vであった。
電池の電圧が基準電圧E1に達するまで、電流値0.7Cで定電流充電を行った。
充電を、下記に示す条件での、25℃環境下での定電流充電及びそれに続く定電圧充電に変更する以外は、実施例1と同様にして、300回の充放電サイクルを実施し、容量維持率(%)及び電池の膨れ率を求めた。結果を表1に示す。
定電流充電:0.7C、充電終止電圧4.15V。
定電圧充電:4.15V、充電終止電流0.05C、休止時間20分。

Claims (7)
- リチウムイオンを吸蔵及び放出可能な正極活物質を含有する正極と、リチウムイオンを吸蔵及び放出可能な合金系活物質を負極活物質として含有する負極と、前記正極と前記負極との間に介在するセパレータと、非水電解液と、を備えるリチウムイオン二次電池の充電方法であって、
前記リチウムイオン二次電池の残容量及び温度を検出し、前記残容量及び温度と予め関連付けられた基準電圧E1に達するまで、前記リチウムイオン二次電池の充電を行うことを特徴とするリチウムイオン二次電池の充電方法。 - 前記リチウムイオン二次電池の放電電流値と放電時間との積を積算することにより、前記残容量を検出する請求項1に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池の充電方法。
- 前記リチウムイオン二次電池の電圧を測定することにより前記残容量を検出する請求項1に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池の充電方法。
- 検出された前記温度が40~60℃の範囲であるとき、前記基準電圧E1を、前記リチウムイオン二次電池の満充電時の電圧に対して90~99.5%の範囲に設定する請求項1~3のいずれか1項に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池の充電方法。
- 前記検出工程の前に、予備基準電圧E2、ただしE1≧E2、に達するまで、前記リチウムイオン二次電池を定電流充電する予備充電工程を更に備える請求項1~4のいずれか1項に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池の充電方法。
- 前記予備基準電圧E2を、前記リチウムイオン二次電池の満充電時の電圧に対して89.5~99%の範囲に設定する請求項5に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池の充電方法。
- 前記リチウムイオン二次電池の残容量を検出するための残容量検出部と、
前記リチウムイオン二次電池の温度を検出する温度検出部と、
前記リチウムイオン二次電池の電圧を検出する電圧測定部と、
前記残容量検出部、前記温度検出部、及び前記電圧測定部からの入力信号を受けて、前記リチウムイオン二次電池の充電を制御する充電制御部と、を備え、
前記充電制御部が、請求項1~6のいずれか1項に記載の充電方法で前記リチウムイオン二次電池を充電する充電システム。
