Definitions
- the present invention relates to a surface light source unit, a surface illumination device, and a liquid crystal display device, and more specifically, a surface light source that uses a point light source with strong directivity as a light source and converts the point light from the point light source into surface light of a predetermined area.
- the present invention relates to a unit, a surface illumination device using the surface light source unit, and a liquid crystal display device.
- LEDs light-emitting diodes
- various types of LEDs have been developed and commercialized and used in a wide range of fields. It ’s coming.
- LEDs In the field of lighting, in addition to uses replacing fluorescent lamps and light bulbs, they are also used for backlights for liquid crystal display panels, for example.
- the backlight for the liquid crystal display panel is, for example, an edge light type in which a light source such as a cold-cathode tube or an LED is disposed on one side of the light guide plate and emits light from the flat portion of the light guide plate, and the same light source and diffusion
- the plate is roughly divided into a direct type in which a plate is opposed to each other at a predetermined distance, and the diffuser plate is directly irradiated with these light sources to emit light from the diffuser plate surface.
- An edge light type backlight requires an expensive light guide plate. Therefore, if an attempt is made to increase the light emitting area, a large light guide plate is required, which increases the weight and the price.
- the light guide plate is used, the light incident path from the light source to the light emitting surface becomes long, and accordingly, there is a problem that the light attenuation becomes large and it becomes difficult to obtain uniform illumination light.
- a direct-type backlight does not require a light guide plate.
- a point light source such as an LED
- direct type backlights devised to solve this problem using LEDs have been proposed (see, for example, Patent Documents 1 to 3 below).
- FIG. 25 shows a direct type backlight using an LED described in Patent Document 1 shown below
- FIG. 25A is a perspective view of a backlight portion seen through the inside
- FIG. 25B is a part of FIG. 25A It is sectional drawing.
- the backlight box described in the following Patent Document 1 is disposed on the back side of a color liquid crystal display panel (not shown), and illuminates the liquid crystal display panel from the back side.
- This backlight box is composed of a box portion 20 having an opening for emitting light from an LED unit, which will be described later, to the outside, and a transmission diffusion plate 26 provided on the opening portion 20a of the box portion 20.
- the box unit 20 uses red LEDs 21R, green LEDs 21G, and blue LEDs 21B as light sources, and these LEDs are arranged in a line on the substrate 22 in a predetermined order to constitute an LED unit.
- the box housing 23 of the box portion 20 has a reflection surface 24 on the inner surface, and a transmission / reflection plate 25 is provided so as to cover the LED unit at an intermediate position inside thereof and to be parallel to the opening 20a. ing.
- the transmissive reflecting plate 25 has a function of transmitting a part of incident light and reflecting a part thereof. In this backlight box, a part of the light of each color emitted from the LED unit in the space closed by the transmission / reflection plate 25 does not directly pass through the transmission / reflection plate 25, but the reflection surface 24 and the transmission / reflection plate 25. After the internal reflection is repeated a plurality of times, the light is transmitted from the transmission reflector 25.
- the irradiation area of the light incident on the transmissive diffusion plate 26 is enlarged, color unevenness and luminance unevenness are reduced to obtain desired white light, and the height (thickness) of the box housing Is thinned from 8 cm to 10 cm of the prior art to 2 cm to 5 cm.
- Patent Document 2 in the backlight having the same configuration as the backlight described in Patent Document 1 below, a partition wall having a height of 5 mm to 25 mm is arranged between a plurality of LEDs to reduce light loss. A direct-type backlight is described. Note that the partition wall has a height that does not reach the diffusion plate.
- Patent Document 3 a box-shaped casing having an opening at the top and an LED provided on the bottom plate, and covering the opening of the casing, a central reflecting portion and an area around the central reflecting portion directly above the LED.
- a surface illumination light source device including a light transmission reflection plate provided with an outward reflection portion.
- this patent document 3 is a publication gazette of the patent application which concerns on the applicant of this application.
- FIG. 26 shows a surface illumination light source device described in Patent Document 3 below
- FIG. 26A is a schematic perspective view
- FIG. 26B is a cross-sectional view taken along line XXVIB-XXVIB in FIG. 26A.
- the surface illumination light source device 30 has an LED 33, a square bottom plate 31a provided at the center of the LED, and side plates 31b to 31e erected at a predetermined height from the periphery of the bottom plate. Includes a housing 31 formed of a reflective surface, and a light transmission / reflection plate 32 covering the opening 31f of the housing 31.
- the light transmission / reflection plate 32 is divided into a central reflection part 32a directly above the LED 33 and an outer reflection part 32b on the outer periphery of the central reflection part, and is made of a material having a predetermined reflectance and transmittance. Is formed.
- the central reflecting portion 32 a is a circular region having a predetermined radius (diameter ⁇ 1 ) centered on a point where the light transmitting / reflecting plate 32 intersects the optical axis Ax of the LED 33.
- the surface illumination light source device 30 is assembled by disposing the LED 33 at substantially the center of the bottom plate 31a of the housing 31, covering the opening 31f of the housing with the light transmission reflection plate 32, and surrounding the light transmission reflection plate 32 around the opening. Fixed and assembled.
- the height of the assembled surface illumination light source device 30 is a protrusion height H1 of the LED 33 from the surface of the bottom plate 31a, as shown in FIG. 26B.
- Thickness 1.0mm of the bottom plate 31a of the housing 31, H1 is the sum of the h 1 and h 2. From these dimensions, the area S of the light transmitting and reflecting plate 32 and the area ⁇ S1 of the central reflecting portion are calculated. S is L 1 ⁇ L 1 , that is, 100 mm ⁇ 100 mm, ⁇ S1 is ⁇ ⁇ (1/2 ⁇ ⁇ 1 ) 2 , That is, ⁇ ⁇ 5 2 (mm 2 ). The area ratio ⁇ S1 / S1 between the area S of the light transmissive reflecting plate 3A and the area ⁇ S1 of the central reflecting portion 32a is 0.78%.
- the liquid crystal display device is mainly used for a display device such as an image typified by a portable terminal, a computer display or a television device, and its application has been further expanded. As this application expands, various demands are placed on the backlight. Some of these requirements include further thinning the backlight and improving illumination quality.
