特に、エチレンオキサイドとプロピレンオキサイドをブロック型に付加重合させて得られるノニオン界面活性剤(今後、ブロック型ノニオン界面活性剤とも言う)は、付加モル数を調整することで容易にHLBをコントロールでき、物性の面では凝固点が低く、広い温度域で液状を示すことから取り扱い性にも優れていることが知られている(1998年8月11日頒布された特開平10-212491)。
発明の要約
触媒の存在下、水分量が0.1質量%以下である下記一般式(1)で表されるアルコールとエチレンオキサイドとを反応させて、下記一般式(2)で表されるエチレンオキサイド付加物を得る工程

〔式中、Rは炭素数8~18の直鎖又は分岐鎖のアルキル基を示し、EOはエチレンオキシ基を示し、xはEOの平均付加モル数を示す1≦x≦20の数である。〕
工程(I)で得られた一般式(2)で表されるエチレンオキサイド付加物とプロピレンオキサイドとを反応させて得られる、一般式(3)で表されるアルキレンオキサイド付加物であって、プロピレンオキサイドの残存量が1000mg/kg以下であるアルキレンオキサイド付加物を得る工程

工程(II)で得られたアルキレンオキサイド付加物とエチレンオキサイドとを反応させて得られる、下記一般式(4)で表されるノニオン界面活性剤であって、エチレンオキサイドの残存量及びプロピレンオキサイドの残存量がそれぞれ5mg/kg以下であるノニオン界面活性剤を得る工程

発明の詳細な説明
工程(I)は、触媒の存在下、水分量が0.1質量%以下である下記一般式(1)で表されるアルコールとエチレンオキサイドとを反応させて、下記一般式(2)で表されるエチレンオキサイド付加物を得る工程である。

R-O-(EO)x-H (2)
〔式中、Rは炭素数8~24の直鎖又は分岐鎖のアルキル基を示し、EOはエチレンオキシ基を示し、xはEOの平均付加モル数を示す1≦x≦20の数である。〕
工程(II)は、触媒の存在下、工程(I)で得られた一般式(2)で表されるエチレンオキサイド付加物とプロピレンオキサイドとを反応させて得られる、一般式(3)で表されるアルキレンオキサイド付加物であって、プロピレンオキサイドの残存量が1000mg/kg以下であるアルキレンオキサイド付加物を得る工程である。工程(II)では、反応条件等を調整して工程(I)一般式(2)で表されるエチレンオキサイド付加物とプロピレンオキサイドとを反応させることで、プロピレンオキサイドの残存量が1000mg/kg以下のアルキレンオキサイド付加物を得てもよいし、アルキレンオキサイド付加物を得た後、該付加物中のプロピレンオキサイド量を低減する操作を行って、プロピレンオキサイドの残存量が1000mg/kg以下のアルキレンオキサイド付加物を得てもよい。
R-O-(EO)x-(PO)y-H (3)
〔式中、Rは炭素数8~24の直鎖又は分岐鎖のアルキル基を示し、EOはエチレンオキシ基を示し、xはEOの平均付加モル数を示す1≦x≦20の数である。POはプロピレンオキシ基を示し、yはPOの平均付加モル数を示す1≦y≦10の数である。〕
工程(III)は、触媒存在下、工程(II)で得られたアルキレンオキサイド付加物とエチレンオキサイドとを反応させて得られる、下記一般式(4)で表されるノニオン界面活性剤であって、エチレンオキサイドの残存量及びプロピレンオキサイドの残存量がそれぞれ5mg/kg以下であるノニオン界面活性剤を得る工程である。
R-O-(EO)x-(PO)y-(EO)z-H (4)
〔式中、Rは炭素数8~24の直鎖又は分岐鎖のアルキル基を示し、EOはエチレンオキシ基を示し、xはEOの平均付加モル数を示す1≦x≦20の数である。POはプロピレンオキシ基を示し、yはPOの平均付加モル数を示す1≦y≦10の数である。zはEOの平均付加モル数を示す1≦z≦20の数である。〕
本発明を次の実施例に沿って述べる。 実施例は本発明の例示について述べるものであり、 本発明を限定するためではない。
<工程(I)>
炭素数12のアルコール(花王(株)、製品名:カルコール2098)252.2g、炭素数14のアルコール(花王(株)、製品名:カルコール4098)98.2g、及びKOH 3.0gを攪拌装置、温度制御装置、自動導入装置を備えたオートクレーブに仕込み、110℃、1.3kPaにて30分間脱水を行った。脱水後の水分量を表1に示す。脱水後窒素置換を行い、155℃まで昇温した後、エチレンオキサイド(表中、EOと表記する)を715.7g(対アルコール9モル、アルコールの平均分子量は194.2(1.8モル)とした)仕込んだ。仕込み終了後、155℃にて30分間反応を行い平均付加モル数が9モルであるエチレンオキサイド付加物を得た。
工程(I)で得られたエチレンオキサイド付加物を130℃に冷却した後、プロピレンオキサイド(表中、POと表記する)を209.7g(対アルコール2モル)仕込んだ。仕込み終了後130℃にて3時間反応を行い、平均付加モル数がエチレンオキサイド9モル、プロピレンオキサイド2モルであるアルキレンオキサイド付加物(エチレンオキサイド・プロピレンオキサイド・ブロック付加物)を得た。このときアルキレンオキサイド付加物中の未反応プロピレンオキサイド量をAgilent社製ヘッドスペースガスクロマトグラフィー(以下HS-GC)にて測定したところ300mg/kgであった。
工程(II)で得たアルキレンオキサイド付加物を155℃に加熱した後、エチレンオキサイドを715.7g(対アルコール9モル)仕込み、155℃にて2時間反応を行った。その後80℃まで冷却し、2.7kPaにて30分間、未反応のエチレンオキサイド及びプロピレンオキサイドの除去を行なった。除去後のエチレンオキサイド及びプロピレンオキサイドの残存量を表1に示す。未反応のエチレンオキサイド及びプロピレンオキサイド除去後、6.0gの90%乳酸をオートクレーブ内に加え、80℃で30分間攪拌した後、抜き出しを行い、平均付加モル数がエチレンオキサイド9モル、プロピレンオキサイド2モル、エチレンオキサイド9モルであるノニオン界面活性剤を得た。
ノニオン界面活性剤の色相、ヨウ素価、ポリアルキレングリコール量及び外観について、それぞれ以下の方法で評価した。結果を表1に示す。
色相は日本電色工業(株)製「石油製品色試験機 OME2000」を使用して測定した。
ヨウ素価は油脂、および油脂誘導体の一般的なヨウ素価測定法として知られているWijs法を用いて測定した。
ポリアルキレングリコールは高速液体クロマトグラフィー(HPLC)法を用いて測定した。示差屈折計を備えた東ソー(株)製HPLCシステムを使用し、カラムは(財)化学物質評価研究機構製LカラムODS Waters(内径4.6mm×150mm)および昭和電工(株)製Shodex SB802.5HQ(内径8mm×長さ300mm)を使用した。
製品外観は、波長700nmの光の透過率にて評価した。製品を光路長1cmの石英セルに入れて700nmの透過率を測定した。測定機器は(株)島津製作所製分光光度計「UV-1600」を使用した。測定温度(試料温度)は20℃とした。透過率が97.0%以上のものを「透明」、透過率が97.0%未満のものを「濁り」として評価した。
実施例1の条件を表1のように変更してノニオン界面活性剤を製造し、実施例1と同様に評価した。結果を表1に示す。
Claims (4)
- 以下の工程(I)、工程(II)及び工程(III)を有するノニオン界面活性剤の製造方法。
<工程(I)>
触媒の存在下、水分量が0.1質量%以下である下記一般式(1)で表されるアルコールとエチレンオキサイドとを反応させて、下記一般式(2)で表されるエチレンオキサイド付加物を得る工程

R-O-(EO)x-H (2)
〔式中、Rは炭素数8~24の直鎖又は分岐鎖のアルキル基を示し、EOはエチレンオキシ基を示し、xはEOの平均付加モル数を示す1≦x≦20の数である。〕
<工程(II)>
触媒の存在下、工程(I)で得られた一般式(2)で表されるエチレンオキサイド付加物とプロピレンオキサイドとを反応させて得られる、一般式(3)で表されるアルキレンオキサイド付加物であって、プロピレンオキサイドの残存量が1000mg/kg以下であるアルキレンオキサイド付加物を得る工程

<工程(III))>
工程(II)で得られたアルキレンオキサイド付加物とエチレンオキサイドとを反応させて得られる、下記一般式(4)で表されるノニオン界面活性剤であって、エチレンオキサイドの残存量及びプロピレンオキサイドの残存量がそれぞれ5mg/kg以下であるノニオン界面活性剤を得る工程

〔式中、Rは炭素数8~24の直鎖又は分岐鎖のアルキル基を示し、EOはエチレンオキシ基を示し、xはEOの平均付加モル数を示す1≦x≦20の数である。POはプロピレンオキシ基を示し、yはPOの平均付加モル数を示す1≦y≦10の数である。zはEOの平均付加モル数を示す1≦z≦20の数である。〕 - 工程(I)におけるアルコールとエチレンオキサイドとの反応を50~200℃で行い、工程(II)におけるエチレンオキサイド付加物とプロピレンオキサイドとの反応を100~160℃で行い、工程(III)におけるアルキレンオキサイド付加物とエチレンオキサイドとの反応を50~200℃で行う、請求項1記載のノニオン界面活性剤の製造方法。
- 工程(II)において、プロピレンオキサイドの全量を添加後、100~160℃で1~5時間反応を行う、請求項1又は2記載のノニオン界面活性剤の製造方法。
- 工程(III)においてアルキレンオキサイド付加物とエチレンオキサイドとの反応を行った後、反応系中のエチレンオキサイド量及びプロピレンオキサイド量を低減する操作を行う、請求項1~3の何れか1項記載のノニオン界面活性剤の製造方法。
