If the surface layer 24 is too thin, the slip noise reduction effect and durability against wear tend to be inferior. On the other hand, if the surface layer 24 is too thick, the running life tends to decrease due to the occurrence of cracks. A range is preferred.

- the resin powder 15 is not mixed in the whole compressed rubber layer 12 but a surface layer 24 is provided on the surface side of the compressed rubber layer 22 and the resin powder 15 is mixed only in the surface layer 24.
- a surface layer 24 is provided on the surface side of the compressed rubber layer 22 and the resin powder 15 is mixed only in the surface layer 24.
- the thickness of the surface layer 24 is 20 ⁇ m or more compared to the case where the thickness of the surface layer 24 is smaller than 20 ⁇ m (Example 6). It can be seen that the samples (Examples 7 to 12) have a low slip noise and a small amount of loss during belt running. Therefore, the thickness of the surface layer 24 is more preferably 20 ⁇ m or more.
- the thickness of the surface layer 24 was measured from the observed image at a magnification of 450 times using the above-described microscope.
- the tensile modulus is 1000 MPa or more, a large part of the resin powder 15 may remain on the surface of the rib portion 23 even if grinding is performed during belt manufacture.
- the surface roughness of 3 ⁇ m or more can be secured with Ra, and the durability can be improved as compared with the conventional one in which short fibers are mixed in the compressed rubber layer 22.
- the tensile elastic modulus shown in Table 2 above is obtained according to ASTM test method D638 for a test piece made of the same resin as that constituting the resin powder.
- the friction transmission belt according to the present invention can improve the durability while reducing noise, and thus is useful for a belt that is wound between pulleys in an automobile or the like to transmit power.
