Abstract

　非磁性基板の少なくとも一方の表面に、磁気的に分離した磁気記録パターンを有する磁気記録媒体の製造方法であって、次の（A）～（G）の順で実施をする７つの工程を有する磁気記録媒体の製造方法を提供する。 （A）非磁性基板に磁性層を形成する工程、（B）前記磁性層の上に炭素マスク層を形成する工程、（C）前記炭素マスク層の上にレジスト層を形成する工程、（D）前記レジスト層に磁気記録パターンのネガパターンを形成する工程、（E）磁気記録パターンのネガパターンに対応する領域の前記マスク層を除去する工程、（F）磁気記録パターンのネガパターンに対応する領域の、前記磁性層の少なくとも表層部分を除去する工程、（G）所望により、残っている前記レジスト層および炭素マスク層を除去する工程。製造される磁気記録媒体は、従来と同等以上の記録再生特性を確保しつつ、高い記録密度を示す。
