Abstract

 次の(1)~(3)の順で実施をする3つの工程を含むことを特徴とする、磁気的に分離した磁気記録パターンを有する磁気記録媒体を製造する方法を提供する。(1)非磁性基板上に磁性層を形成する工程、(2)磁性層を磁気的に分離する領域の磁性層表層部分を除去する工程、(3)該磁性層表層部分を除去することにより露出した磁性層領域の表面を反応性プラズマまたは反応性イオンに曝して、該磁性層領域の保磁力および残留磁化を低減することにより、改質された磁気特性を有する磁性層領域によって磁気的に分離されている磁気記録パターンを形成する工程。この方法により、増大した記録密度を有し、かつ、磁気記録の際の書きにじみをなくした磁気記録媒体を、生産性よく製造することができる。
