Abstract

 本発明は、自立膜型電解質・電極接合体(ESC)(10)に関する。このESC(10)は、電解質(12)と、該電解質(12)の各端面に形成されたアノード側電極(14)及びカソード側電極(16)とを備える。電解質(12)は、酸化物イオンが移動する面もしくは方向を有する単結晶であるか、又は、酸化物イオンが移動する面もしくは方向に配向された多結晶からなり、且つ前記面又は前記方向が厚み方向に沿うように形成される。電解質(12)の厚みは50~800μmに設定され、且つアノード側電極(14)及びカソード側電極(16)の合計厚みは、該合計厚みを電解質(12)の厚みで除して求められる値が0.1以下となるように設定される。さらに、ESC(10)としての厚みは1mm以下である。
