Abstract

La présente invention concerne un cermet à base de titane utilisable dans les outils tranchants et présentant une grande résistance aux ébréchures et à l'usure. Le cermet à base de titane (1) comprend du cobalt et/ou du nickel ; un carbure et/ou un nitrure et/ou un carbonitrure d'au moins un élément choisi parmi les métaux des groupes 4, 5 et 6 de la classification périodique des éléments ; du titane à titre de composant principal ; et de 0,1 à 0,5 % en poids de manganèse. L'examen d'une photographie d'une quelconque coupe du cermet prise au microscope électronique à balayage révèle, au niveau de la partie intérieure, une phase rigide (2) comprenant une première phase rigide (2a) et une seconde phase rigide (2b), ainsi qu'une phase de liaison (3), essentiellement constituée d'au moins soit du cobalt soit du nickel, la seconde phase rigide (2b) paraissant plus blanche que la première phase rigide (2a). En outre, une partie superficielle de la coupe présente une région superficielle dont 90 % de la superficie sont constitués de la seconde phase rigide (2b).
