技術分野

発明の開示
発明が解決しょうとする課題

[0008] この発明の目的は、 2次電池の充電動作と放電動作との適切な切り替えを様々な 状況に合わせて自発的に行うことのできる充放電回路を提供することにある。
課題を解決するための手段
[0009] 本発明は、上記目的を達成するため、電源電圧による 2次電池への充電と 2次電池 力 外部機器への電力供給とが可能な 2次電池の充放電回路であって、 2次電池側 へ電流を流す充電方向と 2次電池から外部機器側へ電流を流す放電方向との双方 で電流又は電圧の調整が可能な双方向性レギユレータと、 2次電池に流れる電流の 向きを検出する充電放電検出回路と、該充電放電検出回路の検出結果に基づいて 前記双方向性レギユレータの動作方向を前記充電方向または前記放電方向に切り 替える切替制御回路とを備えた構成とした。
[0010] このような手段によれば、例えば、 2次電池の充電率が低い状態で電源端子に AC アダプタなどの電源装置が接続されたとき、電源装置が接続されて ヽる状態で外部 機器の負荷が一時的に増して電源供給の不足が生じたとき、電源装置の接続が外さ れたときなど、電源の接続状態や外部負荷の変化が生じて双方向性レギユレータの 直前の動作状態が維持されなくなった場合に、 2次電池に流れる電流の向きが僅か に変化する。そして、この変化を検出してその後の双方向性レギユレータの動作状態 を自発的に切り替えることが出来る。また、このときの電流の向きの変化は、充電が必 要なときには充電方向に、放電が可能なときには放電方向にと、そのときの接続機器 や接続電源の状態、並びに、 2次電池の充電率などに応じて適宜な方向を示してい るので、この検出に基づく双方向性レギユレータの動作切替は様々な状況に応じた 適切なものとなる。
[0011] 望ましくは、前記充電放電検出回路は、 2次電池の充電電流と放電電流とが流れる 電流経路上に直列に接続された 1個又は複数の電界効果トランジスタ (FET1, FET 2 :図 2,図 5)と、該電界効果トランジスタの両端電圧が所定電圧になるようにゲート 端子にバイアス電圧を与える手段 (Bl, B2 :図 2、又は 11, 15 :図 5)と、前記電界効 果トランジスタの両端電圧を比較する比較回路(Compl, Comp2 :図 2、又は 21 :図 5)とから構成すると良い。

[0035] 第 1実施形態の充放電システムは、例えば ACアダプタなどの電源装置 2から電源 電圧を入力して 2次電池 E2の充電を行ったり、例えば携帯電話機やデジタルカメラ などのセット機器 3に対して 2次電池 E2から電力を供給したりするものである。この充 放電システムのうち、電源装置 2、セット機器 3および 2次電池 E2を除いた部分により 充放電回路が構成される。

[0037] 双方向性レギユレータ回路 10は、トランジスタのスイッチング制御或いはトランジス タのオン抵抗の制御により定電流出力や昇圧 ·降圧出力などの出力調整を行うもの である。また、切替制御回路 30の制御によって、電源装置 2側を入力として 2次電池 E2側の出力を調整する充電動作と、 2次電池 E2側を入力としてセット機器 3側の出 力を調整する放電動作とを切り替えて実行することが可能になっている。
[0038] 充電放電検出回路 20は、例えば図 2に示すように、 2次電池 E2と電源端子 tOとの 間に直列に接続された 2個のトランジスタ FET1, FET2と、これらトランジスタ FET1 , FET2の両端に低電圧でほぼ一定の電圧を発生させるゲートバイアスを与えるノ ィ ァス回路 Bl, B2と、この 2個のトランジスタ FET1, FET2の両端の電圧を比較するこ とで電流の向きを表わす信号出力を行う 2個のコンパレータ Compl, Comp2等から 構成される。
[0039] 2個のトランジスタ FET1, FET2は、例えば Pチャネル形 MOSFETであり、ボディ ダイオードが互いに逆向きになるようにそれぞれ接続されている。これにより、トランジ スタ FET1, FET2のうち何れか一方には、ソース'ドレイン間のチャネルに電流が流 れて、ソース'ドレイン間に制御された電圧が出力するようになっている。
[0040] バイアス回路 Bl, B2は、トランジスタ FET1, FET2に流れる電流が大きいときには そのソース'ドレイン間抵抗を小さくして損失の増大を回避し、電流が小さいときには ソース ·ドレイン間抵抗を大きくしてソース ·ドレイン間の電圧を検出可能なレベルまで 上昇させるものである。ソース'ドレイン間に発生させる電圧は、例えば 20mV〜50m Vなど、検出可能で且つ低い電圧とすると良い。この電圧値は厳密に定電圧でなけ ればならないというものではなぐ大まかに上記の電圧となれば良いものである。従つ て、例えばバイアス回路 Bl, B2として、それぞれドレイン端子にアノードをゲート端子 に力ソードを接続したツエナーダイオードなどカゝら構成することも出来る。

[0053] 以上のように、第 1実施形態の充放電システムによれば、充電動作と放電動作との 適切な切り替えを充放電システムによって自発的に行わせることが出来るので、 2次 電池を利便性の高い様々な用途に容易に適用することが出来る。例えば ACァダプ タで駆動するセット機器に対して、この充放電システムを電源端子に並列に接続する だけで、 2次電池によりセット機器の一時的なワイヤレス化を実現できる。また、例え ば、一つの満充電の 2次電池を、充放電回路を介して他の空の 2次電池に接続する ことで、一方の 2次電池から他方の 2次電池へ充電電流を流して、電荷の分配を図る ことができる。また、電源装置 2の定格電力では一時的に電力が不足するような場合 に自発的に 2次電池力も電力供給をさせて電力を補わせるなど、様々な用途に簡単 に適用させることが出来る。 [0054] [第 2の実施の形態]

[0108] この実施形態の充放電システムでは、先ず、双方向性レギユレータ回路の通常の 保護機能 (第 1保護機能)により、過大電圧が入力された場合にトランジスタ FET1が オフされて入力を遮断する保護動作が働く。しかし、より大きな異常電圧が入力され た場合には、この保護動作がなされても例えばトランジスタ FET1が破壊されるなど 制御不能な状態になって、異常電圧や異常電流の入力がトランジスタ FET1を通過 して人力されることがある。
[0109] この実施形態の充放電システムでは、このような場合に、ヒューズ 93の切断による 第 2保護機能が働くようにしたものである。
[0110] 従って、第 2保護機能で用いられる電圧電流検出回路 92は、第 1保護機能でオフ されるトランジスタより後段の電位点 N2の電圧を検出するように構成する。
[0111] ヒューズ 93は、制限電流を超えた場合に切断される通常のヒューズや、抵抗成分を 有し所定の入力電力を超えた場合に切断される抵抗ヒューズなどを用いることが出 来る。
[0112] 保護用制御回路 94は、電圧電流検出回路 92で制限電圧や制限電流を超えた入 力が検出された場合に、トランジスタ FET1とグランド間に接続されたトランジスタ FE T3を強制的にオンさせる信号を出力する。これにより、制御不能で通電状態になつ ているトランジスタ FET1と、オン動作させたトランジスタ FET3を通して過大電流を流 してヒューズ 93を切断することが出来る。
[0113] 同時に、保護用制御回路 94は、 2次電池 E2に直列に接続されたトランジスタ FET 2を強制的にオフにさせる信号を出力する。これにより、ヒューズ 93を切断するために オンさせたトランジスタ FET3を通して 2次電池 E2の放電電流が流れるのが回避され 、 2次電池 E2の過放電を防ぐことが出来る。
[0114] 以上のように、この実施形態の充放電システムによれば、異常な過大電圧が入力さ れた場合に 2次電池 E2に過大電流を流すことなくヒューズ 93を切断して過大電圧の 入力を遮断することが出来るので、より高い安全性の確保を図ることが出来る。
[0115] なお、この実施形態では、保護動作制御回路 94が双方向性レギユレータ回路のト ランジスタ FET2, FET3を直接制御してヒューズ 93を切断したり 2次電池 E2の過放 電を防ぐようにしているが、図 17に点線で示すように、保護動作制御回路 94から第 1 と第 2の SW制御回路 11, 15に信号を出力して、第 1と第 2の SW制御回路 11, 15を 介してトランジスタ FET2. FET3を同様に制御するようにしても良!、。
[0116] また、ヒューズ 93の切断やそのときの 2次電池 E2の放電電流を防ぐのに双方向性 レギユレータ回路のトランジスタを用いている力 専用のトランジスタを設けてこれらの 処理を行うようにしても良 、。

図 18には、本発明の電池パックに係る実施形態の一例を表わした図を示す。
[0118] この実施形態の電池パック 100は、 2次電池 E2を内蔵するパッケージの中に第 1〜 第 8実施形態の充放電用の回路を内蔵したものである。
[0119] 充放電回路には、リアタトル L1や電圧や電流を検出する抵抗を設ける必要がある 力 これらは表面実装が可能な程度の体積の小さなものを利用することが出来るので 、パッケージは殆んど大きくすることなく充放電回路を内蔵することが出来る。また、 制御系の回路や電流と電圧を制御するトランジスタなどは、 1チップまたは 2チップの 半導体に集積して設けることが出来る。
[0120] 入出力端子 101は、電源装置 2に接続する 2端子と、セット機器 3に接続する 2端子 を示しているが、電源装置 2とセット機器 3に接続する端子を共通にできる充放電回 路であれば、これらの端子を共通化して 2端子としても良い。
[0121] このような電池パック 100によれば、外部機器や電源装置との接続状態、並びに、 2 次電池 E2の充電状態に応じて、適宜なタイミングで充電動作と放電動作とを自発的 に切り替える機能を有したバッテリーを構成することが出来るので、ノ ッテリー機能を 様々な用途に簡単に適用させることが出来る。
[0122] 以上、本発明を実施の形態に基づいて説明してきた力 本発明は上述の実施形態 に限られるものではない。例えば、第 3〜第 8の実施形態に示した付加機能は、その うちの複数又は全部の機能をまとめて 1つの充放電システムに備えるようにしても良 い。その他、実施の形態で具体的に示した 2次電池の種類、回路構成や動作内容の 細部等は、発明の趣旨を逸脱しない範囲で適宜変更可能である。
産業上の利用可能性
この発明は、例えばリチウムイオン電池などの 2次電池に対して充電を行ったり放電 を行わせたりする 2次電池の充放電回路、並びに、 2次電池をパッケージングしてな る電池パックに利用できる。

Claims

請求の範囲
[1] 電源電圧による 2次電池への充電と 2次電池力 外部機器への電力供給とが可能 な 2次電池の充放電回路であって、
2次電池側へ電流を流す充電方向と 2次電池から外部機器側へ電流を流す放電 方向との双方で電流又は電圧の調整が可能な双方向性レギユレータと、
2次電池に流れる電流の向きを検出する充電放電検出回路と、
該充電放電検出回路の検出結果に基づいて前記双方向性レギユレータの動作方 向を前記充電方向または前記放電方向に切り替える切替制御回路と、
を備えて 、ることを特徴とする 2次電池の充放電回路。
[2] 前記充電放電検出回路は、
2次電池の充電電流と放電電流とが流れる電流経路上に直列に接続された 1個又 は複数の電界効果トランジスタと、
該電界効果トランジスタの両端電圧が所定電圧になるようにゲート端子にバイアス 電圧を与える手段と、
前記電界効果トランジスタの両端電圧を比較する比較回路と、
力 構成されることを特徴とする請求項 1記載の 2次電池の充放電回路。
[3] 前記双方向性レギユレータは、 2次電池の充電電流と放電電流の電流経路上に直 列に接続され出力調整を行う複数の電界効果トランジスタを有し、
前記充電放電検出回路は、当該双方向性レギユレータの複数の電界効果トランジ スタの両端電圧を比較して電流の向きを検出する、
ことを特徴とする請求項 1記載の 2次電池の充放電回路。
[4] 電源電圧の検出を行う電源電圧検出回路を備え、
電源電圧が前記 2次電池の満充電電圧より低い場合にのみ電源電圧を入力して 2 次電池の充電を可能とした、
ことを特徴とする請求項 1〜3の何れかに記載の 2次電池の充放電回路。
[5] 電源電圧の入力を遮断可能な第 1スィッチ素子と、
電源電圧が前記 2次電池の満充電電圧より高い場合に前記第 1スィッチ素子をォ フにして電源電圧の入力を遮断する手段と、 を備えていることを特徴とする請求項 4記載の 2次電池の充放電回路。
[6] 前記双方向性レギユレ一タは昇圧動作可能に構成され、
2次電池の充電時、充電電圧が電源電圧の近傍になった場合に前記双方向性レ ギュレータが昇圧動作を開始して 2次電池に充電電流を供給する、
ことを特徴とする請求項 4又は 5に記載の 2次電池の充放電回路。
[7] 前記双方向性レギユレータは、トランジスタをスイッチング動作させて出力を調整す るスイッチング制御と、トランジスタのオン抵抗を連続的に変化させて出力を調整する リユア制御により降圧動作が可能に構成され、
電源電圧および Z又は電池電圧に基づいて前記双方向性レギユレ一タの降圧動 作時の制御方式をスイッチング制御又はリニア制御に切り替える制御手段を備えて いることを特徴とする請求項 1〜6の何れかに記載の 2次電池の充放電回路。
[8] 2次電池力 外部機器への放電中、電池電圧が前記外部機器の最低動作電圧の 近傍になった場合に前記双方向性レギユレ一タが昇圧動作を開始して外部機器に 電力供給を行うことを特徴とする請求項 1〜7の何れかに記載の 2次電池の充放電回 路。
[9] 前記双方向性レギユレータの放電時の昇圧動作を開始させる電池電圧のしきい値 と、該昇圧動作を停止させる電池電圧のしき 、値とにヒステリシスを設けたことを特徴 とする請求項 8記載の 2次電池の充放電回路。
[10] 2次電池の過充電および Z又は過放電を検出する異常検出回路と、
前記異常検出回路の検出に基づいて前記双方向性レギユレータの入力および Z 又は出力を遮断させる制御回路と、
を備えていることを特徴とする請求項 1〜9の何れかに記載の 2次電池の充放電回 路。
[11] 外部機器への出力を遮断可能な第 2スィッチ素子と、
出力電圧を検出する出力電圧検出回路と、
出力電圧が基準値を超えたときに前記第 2スィッチ素子をオフにする制御回路と、 を備えていることを特徴とする請求項 1〜: LOの何れかに記載の 2次電池の充放電 回路。
[12] 前記電源電圧と 2次電池とを接続する電流経路上に設けられたヒューズと、 前記電源電圧および入力電流を検出する電圧電流検出回路と、
前記ヒューズと直列に接続された第 3スィッチ素子とを備え、
前記電源電圧又は入力電流が制限値を超えた場合に前記第 3スィッチ素子をオン させて前記ヒューズを切断することを特徴とする請求項 1〜11の何れかに記載の 2次 電池の充放電回路。
[13] 前記第 3スィッチ素子は、前記双方向性レギユレータ回路の出力調整用のトランジ スタを流用して構成されていることを特徴とする請求項 12記載の 2次電池の充放電 回路。
[14] 2次電池と、請求項 1〜13の何れかに記載の 2次電池の充放電回路と力 パッケ一 ジ内に配設されて一体化されていることを特徴とする電池パック。
