Definitions
- the present invention relates to a salad spinner according to the preamble of independent claims 1 and 6.
- salad spinners are available on the market. They all have a bowl-shaped container base and a lid with an integrated drive unit. In the lower part of the container there is a vertical salad screen that can be rotated. The salad screen can be removed for emptying and cleaning.
- the salad screen has a substantially cylindrical side wall and a flat bottom and is open at the top.
- a turntable is arranged on the underside of the lid, which is also rotatable about the vertical axis.
- the turntable has tabs which extend downwards and are in operative connection with the salad screen when the centrifuge is closed. The tabs usually grip between corresponding ribs of the salad screen, which are arranged evenly distributed over the upper circumference of the screen.
- the turntable is in a known embodiment with a gear Gears connected. There is a crank in the cover and the gear can be driven by means of it. If the crank is turned, the turntable and thus the whole salad screen is set in rotation. Due to the translation in the gearbox, high speeds are reached and the residual water, which still wets the lettuce leaves from washing, is thrown outwards through the openings of the salad screen by the centrifugal force exerted. It hits the inner wall of the lower part of the container, where it can run down and collect on the floor. When spinning with such a crank-operated salad spinner, the sieve always turns in the same direction. Before changing the direction of rotation, the sieve must be braked completely before it can be turned in the other direction. These known salad spinners also have the disadvantage that the crank must be turned constantly until the salad leaves are sufficiently drained. An imbalance caused by the uneven distribution of the lettuce leaves in the lettuce sieve slows down the rotary movement and over time damages the bearings and gears.
- the applicant also discloses a salad spinner with a yo-yo-like cord that ensures a regular change in the direction of rotation when spinning. This will requested by the customer, since the spin result is significantly improved by the rhythmic braking and acceleration in the opposite direction.
- the turntable In the known cord pull drive, the turntable is seated on a vertical axis arranged centrally in the cover, to which one end of the cord pull is also attached. A handle is attached to the opposite end of the cord, which enables easy gripping and prevents the cord from being pulled fully into the lid. If the cord is wrapped around the axis, the turntable and thus the salad screen can be rotated against the winding direction by pulling hard. Once the end of the cord has been reached, it is automatically wound around the axis in the direction of rotation.
- the object of the invention is to provide a salad spinner which no longer has these disadvantages.
- An additional advantage of the invention is that the direction of rotation of the salad screen is automatically changed again and again.
- the regular change in the direction of rotation causes the lettuce leaves to change their position in the salad strainer.
- residual water which is located in recesses closed to the outside in lettuce leaves, is also still ejected after changing the direction of rotation.
- Another advantage of the invention is that the restoring force of the spring balancer according to the invention automatically rolls up the cord and holds the handle under spring force in a desired position on the cover.
- Figure 1 shows a salad spinner according to the invention in side view;
- Figure 2 shows a section along the vertical axis through the
- a salad spinner according to the invention (FIG. 1) has a lower container part 2, a lid 1 placed thereon and a basket-like salad screen 3 on the inside.
- the lid 1 can be lifted off the lower part 2 of the container.
- a bearing mandrel 21 is advantageously present in the center of the bottom in the lower container part 2.
- the salad screen 3 is mounted concentrically rotatable about a vertical axis 100.
- the salad screen 3 can in a known manner from the Lower container part 2 can be removed.
- the cover 1 there is the new drive 10 with which the salad screen 3 can be set in rotation.
- a cable 11 is connected to the drive 10. The cable 11 is guided through an opening 102 in the cover 1.
- the cable 11 connects the handle 103 arranged outside the cover 1 at the opposite end of the cable to the drive 10 in the interior of the cover.
- the drive 10 is mechanically connected to a turntable 14.
- the turntable 14 is preferably releasably connectable in a known manner with the salad screen 3. When the lid is closed, the turntable 14 forms an upper cover for the salad screen 3. It has a number of tabs 142 on the edges, which engage in corresponding openings or between ribs in the salad screen 3.
- the tabs 142 serve as drivers and transmit a rotational movement of the turntable 14 to the salad screen 3.
- the new drive 10 is located completely in or on the cover 1, as shown in FIG. 2.
- the drive 10 comprises a cable drum 12, around which the cable 11 can be wound and unwound.
- the cable drum 12 is rotatably fastened around two sleeves 171, 172 arranged concentrically and firmly on the cover 1.
- a coil spring 13 is clamped. With its inner end, the spiral spring 13 is fastened to the sleeve 171 and with its other end to the inside of the cable drum 12.
- a second sleeve 171 is fixedly arranged on the cover 1 concentrically within the sleeve 171.
- the bearing sleeve 172 extends further downward than the fastening sleeve 171 and has a smaller diameter than this.
- the lower edge of the bearing sleeve 171 lies approximately in one plane with the lower edge of the cover.
- the portion of the bearing sleeve 172 which protrudes downward from the outer fastening sleeve 171 carries a one-piece or multi-piece bearing bush 19.
- the bearing bush can comprise ball, roller or roller bearings, or in a simple version, as shown, be made of a material for reducing friction.
- Further bearing elements 19 ⁇ , 19 , ⁇ are arranged at other points in the drive 10, which have a high frictional load.
- a cover 18 is inserted into the bearing sleeve 172 at the lower end and is preferably held in a clamped manner. With its flat head, the cover 18 covers the center of the turntable 14 and holds the turntable in the desired axial position at the lower end of the bearing sleeve 172.
- the turntable 14 engages with a plurality of upwardly projecting cams 141, which are arranged around a central opening of the turntable 14, in corresponding openings on an underside of a lower freewheel 16.
- This lower freewheel 16 rotatably encompasses the bearing bush 19, which is seated on the bearing sleeve 172.
- an upper freewheel 15 is arranged in the region between a lower cord-carrying part of the cable drum 12 and the bearing bush 19.
- the cable drum 12 is rotatably mounted on the bearing sleeve 172 via the two freewheels 15, 16.
- the rotational movement of the cable drum around the bearing sleeve 172 is limited by the spiral spring 13 which, as already described above, acts on an upper part of the cable drum 12 and on the fastening sleeve 171.
- FIG. 3 shows a section through the drive 10 in the area of the lower freewheel 16.
- the freewheel 16 is mounted within the cable drum 12 in such a way that a plurality of locking or clamping rollers or rollers 162 establish a clamping, releasable connection between the inner wall of the cable drum 12 and a central locking body 161 can manufacture. With its central opening, the blocking body 161 sits on the bearing sleeve 172 in a freely rotatable manner, the rotational movement being facilitated by the intermediate bearing bush 19.
- the cams 14, which engage from the turntable 14 in the corresponding receptacles in the locking body 161, are also shown in section. Due to this or another known type of freewheel, the first freewheel 16 exerts a blocking action when the cable 11 is pulled out, while the second freewheel 15 is in the free run. When pulling the rope in, the situation is exactly the opposite.
- the cable pull 11 is now pulled out in the specific exemplary embodiment, it is unwound from the cable drum 12.
- the cable drum 12 is rotated in a first direction.
- the first lower freewheel 16 is thereby brought into a blocking function and rotated as well.
- the freewheel also sets the rotary plate 14 in rotation in the first direction of rotation via the positive cam connection already described.
- the spiral spring 13 is tensioned at the same time. Excessive extension of the cable 11 is prevented by a stop. If the cable reaches a fully extended position, then comes the cable drum to a standstill and the first freewheel 16 unlocked. The turntable 14 can continue to rotate by the freewheeling effect of both freewheels 15, 16 until the rotational movement becomes slower due to friction and 5 finally ends.
- the first lower freewheel 16 by pulling out the cable 11 again, has a blocking function and causes the freewheel and the associated turntable 14 to move again in the first direction of rotation together with the cable drum 12.
- the drive according to the invention can also be used for salad spinners with a crank drive.
- the crank mechanism is used to drive the counter-rotating movements.
- a drive drum is used, which is preferably toothed all around in an outer jacket area, so that it can be driven in both directions by a crank mechanism.
- the crank is turned in one direction, the drive drum is accelerated until a desired maximum crank speed is reached. Via the locked first freewheel, the rotary movement is transmitted to the salad screen in a first direction in the manner described above.
- the salad screen rotates in the same direction - analogous to the cord pull drive - until the movement comes to a standstill due to the friction, or until the crank is moved in the opposite second direction.
- the second freewheel is locked and thus a sudden change in the direction of rotation of the salad screen.
- the user can freely decide whether he wants to change the direction of rotation or not. It can easily be driven in one direction at a time.
- the spiral spring 13 ensures that the cord pull is always completely wound up in the idle state.
- the handle 103 is held indirectly by spring force on the cover 1 or on the opening 102.
- This has two advantages: first, the cord is always supplied inside the lid, except when the handle is pulled, and second, the handle can be held in practically any desired position by means of the spring force applied, even against the force of gravity acting on it. If, for example, the handle is designed in the form of a lettuce head, the cord can be attached to the underside of the lettuce head, and in the relieved condition the spring force will hold the lettuce head in an upright position on the lid surface just above the opening 102.
- the passage opening 102 can also be arranged on the edge of the lid 1, and a handle 103 can be held horizontally from the lid 1 in the rest position. It should be emphasized again that these different grip positions can be achieved without additional clamping or holding means.
