- Pigs are raised for meat and are useful livestock that grow quickly and have a high rate of conversion to grain. However, because of rapid growth, they often exhibit symptoms such as physiological anemia, especially in the early stages of growth, and often inhibit growth or become ill. As a countermeasure, administration of chemicals (iron preparations) and administration of various nutrients are performed, but are not sufficient. In particular, injection of iron dextran and oral administration of iron sulfate and iron fumanoleate are used to alleviate the physiological anemia symptoms during early growth.
