Definitions

  • the invention concerns a wall tie of wire for use in the building of double walls, and where at least the one end of the wire is placed in the mortar layer.
  • the object of wall ties is to ensure the necessary degree of cohesion of the wall, which is a so-called double wall comprising two separate walls which are held together by means of built-in/secured wall ties.
  • the ties are built-in with the distance prescribed for the relevant brickwork, which depends on the load that the finished double wall shall be able to withstand.
  • Wall ties are to be found in many different sizes and shapes. Traditionally, wall ties are made of a smooth wire with a diameter of 3-4 mm.
  • the material can be stainless, acid-proof steel or tin-bronze.
  • the length of the tie can be between 10 and 40 cm.
  • the tie can be straight and be pro- vided at the one end with means for fortification in the form of a thread or an expansion anchor.
  • the other end of the tie can be bent in the formation of an angle piece.
  • the fortification part is fastened by screwing or tightening in, while the second part of the tie is intended to be built into the mortar in the joint in the brickwork.
  • Ties are also be to be found which are bent over at this end in the formation of an eye, which provides a better fastening in the mortar and herewith a greater holding strength.
  • ties are each dimensioned and shaped especially for use in different wall materials and dimensions, such as light-weight concrete, cinder blocks and wooden plates which comprise the inner wall, while the other end is shaped for building into the mortar in the joint in the outer wall.
  • the tie is dimensioned on the basis that there is no binding between the smooth wire and the mortar, so that this is not included in the calculations for the holding power of the tie.
  • the wire contributes towards the securing, since as a reinforcing rod it is secured to a better degree, i.e. enters into engagement, with the mortar.
  • the effect of the roughness is that water will not run along the wire but drip off the wire. This results in increased cohesion between wire and mortar and herewith an increased holding force, so that the number of ties can be considerably reduced.
  • the building work is hereby made easier and the number of relatively expensive ties can be reduced.
  • the production of the wire can be made relatively simple, in that each stamping tool needs only to process a limited part of the surface of the wire.
  • the angle of the projec- tions is around 45° in relation to the longitudinal direction of the wire, in that a maximum tensile strength is achieved hereby.

  • fig. 4 shows a cross-section of the wire seen in the direction IV-IV in fig. 3
  • fig. 5 shows a piece of a wall tie seen from the side and with the projections extending in the same direction.
  • Both of the examples shown are provided with eyes 3, 4 at both ends, where said eyes are of different configuration, but there is nothing to pre- vent the wall ties according to the invention from being configured and equipped differently, i.e. they can be bent in another shape or provided with threads or expansion anchors as examples.
  • the wire 2 is provided with a rough surface, which means that the whole of the built-in part of the wall tie contributes to the fastening and is herewith included in the calculation of the overall extraction strength of the wall tie.
  • Figs. 3-5 show an example of such a rough wire seen on a larger scale.
  • the surface of the wire is processed to provide three webs or rows in such a manner that a deformation from a stamping tool forms the space between projections 6, which will appear as ribs on the core 2 of the wire itself.
  • the projections 6 in each of the three rows are thus placed with the same distance between them, and also that the projections 6 in a row are displaced at a half of the projection distance in the formation of the greatest possible, uniform roughness.
  • the projections extend at an angle of about 45° in relation to the longitudinal direction of the wire in the formation of a pattern extending in an inclined manner.
  • these projections also have a draining-off effect on the water, which surrounds the wall tie during and after the build- ing-in, in that the projections will collect possible water so that the water drips off and does not seep along the wire.
  • a wall tie of rough wire configured in this manner will provide a resulting holding power which is considerably higher than that of a corresponding tie made of smooth wire which is not held fast by the mortar.
  • the result is that use can be made of fewer ties for double walls with the same strength, which is not only labour-saving but also reduces the consumption of wall ties.
