Definitions

  • a central lubrication apparatus with an adjustment actua ⁇ tor.
  • the present invention relates to an adjustable stop ar- rangement for limiting the angular movability of a rotatable actuator shaft to a desired fraction of one revolution, e.g. to a turnability of between 0°, i.e. full blocking, and 270°, the shaft having a radial projection and being surrounded by holding means for circumferentially opposed, position adjust- able abutments for limiting the rotary movement of the pro ⁇ jection in both of the rotation directions thereof.
  • the invention is primarily connected with central lubri ⁇ cation apparatuses for engine cylinders in large ship diesel engines, in which it is desirable to be able to change the limits for the rotary movement of an actuator operated shaft connected with means for adjusting the working strokes of pump pistons in a row of pump cylinders, from which lubrica ⁇ tion oil is pressure displaced to a number of oiling spots on each engine cylinder.
  • an actuator operated shaft connected with means for adjusting the working strokes of pump pistons in a row of pump cylinders, from which lubrica ⁇ tion oil is pressure displaced to a number of oiling spots on each engine cylinder.
  • it is desir ⁇ able to effect an adjustment of the positions of both of the said abutments, such that what is adjustable is not only the angle of rotation, but also the position of the rotation an ⁇ gle relative to the circumference.
  • the vacant space is nar- row, so the discussed stop arrangement should be provided as a compact unit accessible from one end of the shaft for
  • the said holding means comprise a disc with a parti- ally round-going track, in which clamp screws are used to fix the respective abutments in a changeable manner, operated from one same side of the unit.
  • the present invention aims at providing an arrangement which, even in dirty surroundings, there will be free acces to carry out an adjustment of the positioning of the abut- ments, without any use of tools and with a concentrated and easily accessible location of the abutments, and without an risk of personal injury.
  • this is achieved in providin around the projection area of the shaft a two part rotary bushing, which enclose the projection, the opposed end side of which are housed in internal cavities in the respective bushing parts in such a manner that the projection is freel pivotable to and from the respective abutments inside the bushing parts, these parts being mounted so as to be indivi dually rotation adjustable such that the abutment in one bushing part is usable as a minimum stop, while the abutmen in the other bushing part is usable as a maximum stop, when the bushing parts are arrested relative to the surroundings.
  • the rotary bushing parts should be provided with outer markings for indicating their angular positions, e.g. by way of a radially projecting finger handle which, b itself or with the use of a background scale, will indicate the location of the respective stop abutment. This will mak it very easy to adjust the bushing parts into their relevan stop positions.
  • the bushing parts with or without an intermediate space ring, will form a closed housing about the said radial pro ⁇ jection, such that a further shielding towards dirty sur- roundings will be fully superfluous.
  • the bushing parts wit out the use of tools, will be directly accessible for indi ⁇ vidual adjustments, with the projection totally shielded fro the surroundings.
  • Fig. 1 is a sectional view of a known lubrication appara- tus
  • Figs. 2 and 3 are orthogonal sectional views of an asso ⁇ ciated adjustment actuator.
  • Fig. 4 is a perspective view thereof, shown modified ac ⁇ cording to the invention
  • Fig. 5 is a sectional view thereof corresponding to Fig. 3, and
  • Fig. 6 is a sectional view along the line A-A in Fig, 5.
  • the lubrication apparatus shown in Fig. l is well known and is to be described very briefly only. It comprises a housing 2, at the front wall of which there is mounted a row of pump housings, each with a piston pump 6 for pumping oil up through a flow measuring glass 8 and further up through an outlet stub 10. Internally, the piston pumps 6 exhibit piston rod heads 12 which, against a spring bias, are depressable by the action of a rotating cam 14 on a shaft 16, by intermedi ⁇ ate of an end portion 18 on a pivot lever 20 mounted on a turnable eccenter shaft 22 and having an upper end portion 24 located next to an adjustment screw 26. An individual adjust ⁇ ment of the length of the working stroke of the associated pump piston may be effected by means of this screw.
  • a corresponding collective adjustment of the working stroke is achievable by a turning of the pivot shaft 22, which is eccentrically connected with a rotary shaft indi ⁇ cated in dotted lines at 28.
  • a maximum horizontal displacement of the pivot shaft 22 is obtainable, viz. corresponding to a minimum and a maximum prolongation of the working strokes of the individu ⁇ ally adjusted pumps, respectively.
  • an adjustable angle of rotation of the shaft 28 such that this shaft, by a simple actuator control, can be moved between respective, se ⁇ lected maximum and minimum stops.
  • An associated actuator may be designed as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, namely as a block 30, in which a piston 32 can be reciprocated by the pressure from a source of compressed ai or from a hydraulic pump 34 through a switch valve 36.
  • the piston 32 has a toothing 38 driving a gear section 40 on th said shaft 28.
  • a preferred embodiment of the invention is accomplished in the manner illustrated in Figs. 4-6, viz. in that the shaft 28 is made with a short external extensio provided with a radial projection 42, which is entirely housed in a pair of surrounding bushing parts 44 and 46. As shown in Fig. 6, each of these parts is made with an inner recess 48, which can receive the respective, axially oppose end parts of the projection 42 between end portions 50 and of the respective recesses 48, and moreover, each of the bushing parts is provided with a projecting handle 54 view ⁇ able against an adjustment scale 56 on the actuator housing 30.
  • Each of the bushing parts 44 and 46 is made with radial holes 58, for cooperation with respective locking pins 60 guided with spring bias in tube portions 62 depending from projecting beam element 64 on the actuator housing 30, thes pins having lower gripping plates 66.
  • each of the bushing par 44 and 46 into different discrete positions, such that the abutment 50 of one of the parts can be used as a stop to on side, while the opposite abutment 52 of the other part can used as a stop to the other side.
  • the rows of holes 58 may be replaced by fri tion zones, enabling stepless adjustments.
  • means may be used for axially pressing the bushing parts against the housing 30 or another rigid support for stabili ing the positions against the force by which the projection 42 acts on the respective abutments.
  • the projection 42 is provided on a bushing 68 secured to the shaft 28, but it may be arranged projecting directly from the shaft; also, it may be divided in two projections for cooperation with the respective bush- ing halves. Between these there may be arranged an intermedi ⁇ ate washer or bushing.
  • the adjustment system is provided in direct association with the actuator housing, as in prin ⁇ ciple the system may be provided anywhere in a transmission connection 28 between the actuator and the apparatus housing 2 or even at the opposite side of this housing.
  • the actuator is mounted directly on the side of the housing 2, whereby it is found natural to mount the adjustment system at the outside of the actuator housing.
  • the internal recesses in the bushing parts 44,46 may be fully roundgoing, only provided with a single cam or pin to replace the one of the stop abutments 50,52 that is operative in each of the bushings, in which only one of these abutments will be operative. What is essential is the integrated encapsulation of the projection area of the shaft and the robust and easily operated design of the ad ⁇ justment system.
