Definitions
- the invention relates to a planar display for Aus ⁇ illumination of background areas, consisting of a plate-like member made of a transparent licht ⁇ permeable material and an arranged thereon, the support body for receiving operating according to the operating principle of a light emitting diode Licht ⁇ swell at least the plate-like in * Blast the component and illuminate it.
- the LCD displays common today are to be mentioned, which with a homogeneous illumination of their background ensure a clear recognizability of the information conveyed by the advertisements.
- Further applications of such illuminations are front panel illuminations and the background illumination of signs, other light and luminous signs, etc.
- the disadvantage associated with such a display is that the light-emitting diodes inserted into the carrier body have a comparatively large dimension, so that there is a correspondingly high overall height for the carrier bodies, and thus also for the entire display.
- Another disadvantage arises from the fact that the light angle of commercially available diodes is limited due to the reflectors used there, which enclose the light-emitting diode chips, so that shadow-free illumination of a background area is only possible when a correspondingly large number of light-emitting diodes are placed close to one another, which is associated with a corresponding outlay .
- the invention is therefore based on the object of improving a generic area display in such a way that a lower overall height and a shadow-free illumination result.
- the solution to this problem results from the main claim; advantageous refinements and developments of the invention are specified in the subclaims.
- the invention is based on the basic idea that the carrier body is designed as a circuit board and at least two light-emitting diode chips with bonding are directly applied to the circuit board and connections for connecting the light-emitting diode chips are provided on the circuit board.
- This has the advantage that the construction of conventional light-emitting diodes is completely dispensed with.
- the light-emitting diode chips radiate directly from the circuit board into the component made of a translucent material which is not intersected by shadow-producing dividing lines, so that consequently a shadow-free illumination of each individual component by the joint radiation of the several light-emitting diode chips on a circuit board as well in the arrangement of several boards in a larger component to be illuminated.
- the light-emitting diode chips are integrated into the respective component via the circuit boards used in the component to be illuminated, the overall height of such displays for backlighting is considerably reduced; a total height of only 3 mm down to 2 ram can be achieved with surface displays designed according to the invention.
- Another advantage is that due to the possibility of arranging several boards with light-emitting diode chips in a plate-like component as the basis of the surface display, practically any size surfaces can be illuminated without shadows forming.
- the Experience has shown that the range of a circuit board according to the invention with light-emitting diode chips arranged thereon and connected in series / parallel is approximately 120 mm, so that a 120 mm wide display can be illuminated with a circuit board. If several boards are used in a plate-like component, the possible width of the display to be illuminated increases accordingly.
- the circuit board is used as a carrier for the light-emitting diode chips in a groove formed in the plate-like component.
- This plate-like component consists of a translucent material, preferably of acrylic when using the display at low temperatures, or of polycarbonate if the display is exposed to a higher temperature.
- the groove is either inclined in a rectangular shape with its vertical axis to the center line of the component or in a triangular shape with an inclined surface arranged to the center line of the component, so that this is from the top surface parallel to the surface to be illuminated light from the display board is reflected laterally into the plate-like component. It is particularly expedient if the surfaces of the groove surrounding the circuit board are polished.
- an opaque material which preferably consists of an opaque, paintable paint.
- the same measure must also be taken for the surface of the circuit board inserted into the component, with the exception of the areas required for the arrangement of the light-emitting diode chips with bonding, from the corresponding coating.
- the illumination of the plate-like component is further improved according to the invention by the design of the lower surface opposite the surface to be illuminated of the plate-like component with a prism configuration composed of triangular surfaces, the height and the steepness of the triangular surfaces in question with increasing distance from the surface increase the board inserted in the groove.
- the triangular surfaces are designed in the opposite direction for the configuration of the lower surface in this regard.
- the lower surface just executed can be provided with a screen printing design in order to reflect the light striking there in a scattered form into the plate-like component.
- the aforementioned measures are combined with one another, that is to say that the prismatic design provided on the lower surface of the plate-like component is additionally provided with a screen printing design on its triangular surfaces,
- the invention provides for the upper surface of the plate-like component to be illuminated to be provided with a diffuser layer.
- the plate-like component is not rectangular, but is in the form of a concave mirror with a circuit board or circuit boards arranged on the outer edge as a carrier for the light-emitting diode chips.
- pats made of soft gold with a purity of 99.99% are arranged on the circuit board made of a non-conductive material, onto which the light-emitting diode chips are glued with a conductive adhesive, with a bonding wire also made of gold being bonded to an adjacent and isolated Pat the LED chip is guided.
- the Pats arranged on the circuit board are interconnected by conductor tracks, which conductor tracks can either be printed on the surface of the board, or the circuit board is plated through with conductor tracks arranged on the underside or inside.
- the pats can be provided to arrange the pats on the board directly at the edge thereof and to connect them via plug contact strips which can be plugged onto the side of the board.
- plug contact strips which can be plugged onto the side of the board.
- a special embodiment of the invention provides that a parallel to the surface to be illuminated plate-like component, a circuit board with chips arranged on it in a grid-like manner with bonding and surrounded on its sides by a frame, preferably made of plastic, and the surface to be illuminated is formed by a diffusion film that spans the frame and is arranged at a distance from the piatino.
- the inner surfaces of the frame are inclined to the plane of the board and arranged in a roughened shape, so that the light refraction in the interior of the plate-like component between the board and the film is improved.
- a mutual spacing of the light-emitting diode chips in the longitudinal direction of a circuit board as well as in the case of a circuit-board-like circuit board in the order of magnitude of 5 mm has proven to be particularly advantageous.
- Gallium / aluminum chips which are known as low-current chips, can be used particularly advantageously with the invention, so that a display according to the invention can be operated with a correspondingly low current.

- 6 is an area display in section with a profiled underside
- FIG. 7 shows a section through a surface display in the form of a concave mirror
- Fig. 8 shows another embodiment of the surface display in a section.
- a circuit board 15 is arranged as a carrier body for light sources operating on the principle of a light-emitting diode, in the exemplary embodiment shown in relation to the surface to be illuminated
- circuit board 15 can also be inserted into the component 10 from one end face.
- the circuit board 15 which is preferably made of a non-conductive material, there are two mutually associated pates 16 made of a soft gold with a preferably degree of purity applied by 99.99%; a chip 17 is glued to one pat 16 by means of a conductive adhesive, which chip is bonded to the associated neighboring pat 16 via a bonding wire 18, which is also preferably made of gold.
- the distance between the chips 17 is about 5 mm.
- the Pats 16 are to be switched via printed circuit connections 19 arranged in the circuit board 15, preferably.
- the chips are preferably arranged in series / parallel connection in order to ensure an operating voltage of 5 volts for the operation of the surface display.
- the circuit of the individual light-emitting diode chips is to be changed in the individual application by using circuit boards printed with different circuitry technology, the color of the chips for the surface 11 of the component 10 to be illuminated also being dependent on the circuit. A color change is possible when changing the switching connections.
- the circuit board 15 preferably has a thickness of 0.5 mm, it being possible for the switching connections 19 to be located on the surface of the circuit board with connections to the pads 16; alternatively, it can be provided to design the circuit board 15 as a plated-through circuit board, in which the switching connections 19 are located on the underside of the circuit board or in the interior of the circuit board.
- Another alternative according to the invention is to make the circuit board from a conductive material, preferably carbon, and to isolate the parts to be separated in terms of circuitry by inserting corresponding insulating strips.
- the pats 16 as carriers of the light-emitting diode chips 17 with bond 18 can also be arranged on the outermost edge of the circuit board 15, so that switching connections can be made via a plug contact strip which can be plugged onto the circuit board 15 laterally, this contact strip for example individual contacts at a distance of 1.27 or 2.54 mm. Depending on the removal of the individual contact pins from the mutual connection, the desired switching connections can be produced.
- the surface displays can be designed with a common anode or also with a common cathode, in that the contacting of the patents 16 is maintained continuously on one side of the chip arrangement 17, 18.
- the arrangement of the circuit board 15 in the groove 14 of the component 10 can be carried out in various ways in order to improve the reflection of the light emanating from the circuit board 15 into the plate-like component 10.
- the vertical axis of the groove 14 is inclined to the center line of the plate-like component 10
- the groove 14 is triangular with a triangular surface inclined to the center axis of the component 10. The reflective effect is improved in particular in that the surfaces 20 of the respective groove surrounding the circuit board 15 are polished.
- FIG. 5 A further improvement results from FIG. 5, for example, in that the area 21 arranged above the groove 14 on the surface 11 of the plate-shaped component 10 to be illuminated and the circumferential end faces 13 of the component 10 are provided with an opaque color, so that no light can come out here.
- the same also applies to the surface of the circuit board 15 facing the interior of the component 10, which is also provided with an opaque color, with the exception of the patens 16.
- FIG. 6 shows a further design for improving the reflection by providing a prism design with triangular surfaces 22 on the lower surface 12 of the component 10, the height and inclination of which increase with increasing distance from the circuit board arranged at the edge of the component 10.
- a circuit board 15 is arranged on each of the two edges of the component 10, so that the prism configuration 22 is symmetrical.
- FIG. 7 An alternative to this is the subject of FIG. 7, in which the plate-shaped component 10 is formed overall as a hollow-mirror-like body, on its two edges in accordance with the Representation of the figure o each a board 15 is arranged.
- the lower surface 12 when the lower surface 12 is flat, it can be covered with a screen printing design in order to reflect the light emerging here into the component 10, this measure also being able to be implemented in combination with the illustration according to FIG. 6.
- FIG. 8 shows an alternative embodiment of a surface display, in which the circuit board 15, with a grid of chips 17, 18 placed thereon, is inserted into a plastic frame 23, which is covered on its upper side by a diffuser film 25 arranged at a distance from the circuit board 15.
- the inner surfaces 24 of the frame 23 are beveled in a funnel-like manner towards the circuit board 15 and provided with a roughening, so that the light emanating from the chip 17, 18 of the circuit board 15 is reflected from below onto the diffuser film 24, so that the is illuminated by the diffuser film 24 given area.
- a distance of the chips 17 of 5 mm also applies to this embodiment, but the distance of the individual chips from one another can also be reduced to 3 mm, for example.
