Abstract

1,166,442. Indicator lamps. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 6 Feb., 1967 [8 Feb., 1966], No. 5439/66. Heading F4R. An illuminated panel comprises a base member 10 containing one or more electric lamp bulbs 14 encapsulated in translucent material 15. The base 10 is preferably made of rigid transparent material carrying a front panel 11 bearing indicia, and the bulbs are located in recesses 21, 22 in the back of the base, which may be covered with a reflecting layer 20 of white paint and a further layer 23 of the encapsulating material. The bulb leads 14A are attached to a printed circuit 24 which may be applied to the back of the layer 20. The encapsulating material is preferably a plastic and may be moulded around the bulbs before or after they are placed in the recesses. Either the encapsulating material or the base may be coloured. The recesses may contain more than one bulb and may extend right through the base, in which case the latter may be opaque. In an alternative embodiment the recesses are formed in the front of the base 10 and the printed circuit, which may be covered with encapsulating material, is situated between the base and the front panel 11.
