[Also in Groups V, XI and XVIII] Electric incandescent lamps and discharge lamps are adapted for indicating, signalling, decorative and other purposes by the provision of a sheath of translucent or transparent organic thermoplastic which is injection moulded around, and permanently encloses, the bulb or envelope and part of the cap. The thermoplastic which may be of any colour, may be moulded into the shape of a bird or animal, or into cylindrical or other form with either a flat or domed upper end. Fig. 3 shows an indicator lamp which may be used as a push button in an intercommunication system and has a character impressed in its upper end during moulding. Characters or other matkings may be embedded so that they are visible only when the lamp is illuminated. A collar-like flange or ring may be formed integrally with the moulded sheath or, as shown in Fig. 5, a bevelled ring 12 of chromium-plated metal may be embedded in the sheath during moulding and form an abutment for the lamp when mounted on a panel. The materials used for the moulded sheath may comprise a glass-like acrylic ester or vinyl or styrol plastic; alternatively a cellulosic plastic may be used. A number of lamps may be provided simultaneously with moulded sheaths by mounting them upon temporary holders within the lower half of a two-part mould (see Group V). Lettering &c. may be provided on the surface of the holders and reproduced on the base of the moulded sheath.
