No.7,730. PatentedSept.l,\874.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\YHJL'IAM MARTIN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR T0 THOMAS DOLAN AND R. \VILLIAMS, JR, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR STOCKING FABRIC.
Specification forming part of Design No. 7,730, dated September 1. 1874; application filed August 19, 1874. [Term of Patent 3 years] CASE B.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM MARTIN, of Philz'idelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a Design for a Stocking Fabric, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a diagram, illustrating the shape of the outline of the stripes of which the pattern is composed; and Fig. 2 is a View of the complete design, the remainder of the pattern being merely a repetition of that which appears.
The main peculiarity of the design is the shape of the stripes, each of which has a zigzag or scalloped edging, the portion 1) of which is composed of scallops more elongated than, and projecting beyond, the scallops 0f the pertions a. A peculiar and pleasing effect is produced in the complete design by arranging the portions b of the several stripes directly opposite each other, as shown in Fig. 2.
The pattern is composed of parallel stripes A, B, and C, the former of which has a narrow edging, a, at its opposite sides, while the stripe B is composed of a number of minor stripes, bars, or ribs, blended into each other, as shown. The narrow stripe O is but of a single shade or color.
Irrespective of the colors employed, I claim- 1. The design for a stripe for stocking fabries having zigzag or scalloped edges of the character shown and described.
2. The design for the whole pattern, including the stripes A, B, and U, as described and represented.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WM. MARTIN.
