UNITED STATES THOMAS HEATH, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO J.
PATENT OFFICE.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS, FORKS, OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 36,132, dated November 4, 1902.
Application filed October 9, 1902. Serial No. 126,640. Term of patent '7 years.
1'0 a, whont it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS HEATH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Provideuce, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new, original, and ornamental Design for the Handle of aSpoon, Fork, or SimilarArticle, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure l is a view of the obverse side of the handle, showing my design. Fig. 2 is a view of the reverse side of the same.
The handle is shown attached to the bowl of a spoon, the tines of a fork beingindicated in broken lines.
The design is adapted to What is usually termed the fiddle-shape form of a handle, in which the stem extends from the article to which it is attached, contracting slightly until it approaches the blade of the handle, where the width of the blade enlarges into a bulbous shape and then contracts before it again enlarges to form a second bulbous shape, somewhat resembling the conventional form of a violin.
The design consists in the raised ornamental scrolls on the obverse side of the handle on the end of the stem, forming a panel on which fruit is represented. The panel is surmounted by a flamboyant spike extending over a central bead, terminating in the foliations of two marginal beads, ornamented on the blade of the handle by inwardly-extending foliations inclosing a raised panel. A bulbous ornament extends from the central bead over the central panel. The apex of the handle is covered with raised pear-shaped ornaments, from which extend on opposite sides foliated scrolls inclosing an escutcheonpanel. Fruit ornaments extend from the foliated scrolls, inclosing the escutcheonpanel over the panel of the blade, forming the foliated pendant between the marginal foliated beads. On the reverse side (shown in Fig. 2) the scrolls on the end of the handle Where it is connected with the article are surmounted by bold marginal raised beads having inwardly-extending scrolls on the lower partof the stem and scrolled honeysuckle ornaments extending inwardly over the flat surfaces of the stem, terminating in oppositely-disposed scrolled ornaments supporting a bunch of fruit, the end of the handle having marginal beads with inwardlycurved foliations, terminating in two oppositely-disposed scrolls inclosing a central panel.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The ornamental design for the handle of a spoon, fork or similar article, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
THOMAS HEATH.
