CHARLES F. RICHERS, OF NEW YORK, N.
Design No. 3,275, dated December l, 1868.
DESIGN FOR A SPOON OR FORK-HANDLE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all 'whom it lfm1/ q concern:
. Beit known that I, CHARLES F. Rrcnnns, of the city, county, and State of New York, have originated and designed a new Form and Pattern for Spoon, Fork, Knife, and other Fancy Handles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
Figure 1 in the drawing represents a front view of a spoon made according to my design.
Figure 2 is a back view ofthe same.
Similar letteis of reference indicate like parts in different figures.
The outline ofthe sides, and the impressions or ornaments with which the top and bottom faces ofthe han die are provided, are the more novel and distinguished part-s of this invention.
It will be seen from the drawing that the outlines of the central part of the sides of the handles form, each, hollow curves a a towards each other, and they increase and retire rapidly from one another towards the bowl of the spoon, and more particularly towards the end ofthe handle, where they meet with a sharp corner, with the semicircular curve b, forming the head of the handle,
which is of somewhat greater width than the ordinary head; and a short distance before the said curves meet the bowl of the spool, the same are entertained by similar curves c c, joining with a corner, and rapidly widen ing until joining the said bowl. The top cud of the head of the handle is provided with a small tip, d, terminating with small coils at the junction with the head. The body-part of the head, and the central part along the handle on the top, as well as on the bottom side of the same, are made with a convex projection, e, which terminates along the line f, and the same is accompanied on both sides by a narrow relief, g, towards the bowl, where the same unites with a plain semicircle, while, on the top side, the same relief terminates with an ornament of coils to each other.
The junction of the bowl with the handle on its bottom side is relieved with the leaf-work ornament, x, and the top side ofthe handle, towards its head, is relieved with the leaf ornament g, while the bottom side Ef the same is relieved with the ornament t', shown in What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The form and design for handles of fancy knife, fork, and spoon-work, as herein set forth.
