@einen tsttns @anni @time JOHN POLHAMUS, OF ,NEW YORK, N. Y.
Design No. 2,772, dated August 27, 1867.
DESIGN FOR A FORK 0R SPOON-HANDLE.
@the fliehule rsfemr tu in ihm Etten: 33mm mit making part nf the same.
TO ALL WHOM IT MY OONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOHN POLHAMUS, of the city and State of New York` have invented or produced a new and original Design forthe Handles of Forks, Spoons, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a. correct description of the said design, reference being had to the annexed photograph of a spoon with the said design upon the handle.
Figure 1 represents the upper side of thehandle and conca-vity of the spoon, and
Figure 2 is the opposite or back of the handle and convexity of the spoon.
The general outlinevof the end of the handle is composed of arcs of circles at a, and two lines of beaded work form the general ornamentation, the space between the beads being plain on one side, and on the other tessellated, as shown. The scroll-work at b forms a-n ornamental widening towards the end of the handle. The ribs running along the Shank or body of the handle terminate, as shown, at c c, and ornaments d and e are introduced near the intersection of said beads. Towards the spoon (fork or knife) end the ribs or beads terminate on one side as scrolls, with a small pine-apple ornament atf, and on the other the beads die down to nothing, and a double-leaved scroll and pine-apple ornament'is introduced, as at g.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design, of the shape and configuration of ornaments shown, for the handles of forks, spoons, Snc.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my signature this twentylsecond day of July, 1867.
JOHN POLHAMUS.
