SYLVESTER BENNETT, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
BROOM.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 51,791 dated January 2, 1866.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe its construction, referring to the drawings, in which the same letters indicate like parts in each of the figures.

The wood head 0 of this broom is made very much like the head of a whitewash-brush or a bristle-brush in common use, except that it has a rabbet formed around its sides and ends to receive the layers of corn-brush I), which are shown at a, Figs. 1 and 2. The handle d is fitted to a hole inthe head, made either with or without a screw-thread, as desirable.
In making this broom the wood head is first I prepared, and the layers of corn-brush b are placed in their proper place and position in said rabbet, and the band 0, of any desirable material, is placed over the brush directly over the rabbet, and the whole secured to the head by means of nails suitably prepared for that purpose. In this way I am enabled to produce a broom light and tasty in its appearance, efficient and durable for use, compact for transportation, cheap, simple, and easy of manufac- SYLVESTER BENNETT. n s.]
