UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MOSES O. JOHNSON, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE HELIX GEAR COMPANY,
OF SAME PLACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 31,319, dated August 1, 1899.
Application filed July 5, 1899. Serial No. 722.877. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Moses 0. Jonnson, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and original Design for a Bicycle-Frame; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in
Figure 1, a view in side elevation of the frame; in Fig. 2, a View in front elevation of the essential feature at the lower part of the frame, and in Fig. 3 a view in rear elevation of the said essential feature.
My invention relates to a design for the frame of a bicycle in which there are upright parts, as a b, inclined members, as c d,and sub stantially horizontal Inem bers,as e f. The two members a d at their lower ends unite with a circular member g, and the inclined rear member c terminates in a circular member h as the parts appear when viewed in elevation from the side, as in Fig. 1. Below the memher 9 is a cylindrical member g with its axis placed transversely of the axis of the cylinder 9, and a like cylinder h underlies the cylinder h, these parts g and h being connected by the frame memberf. The members cand 3o fare, in fact, rear forks of the bicycle-frame, and the parts 9 g and h h are the crankhanger and gear-casings.
The essential feature of the design resides in the substantially offset arrangement of the frame memberfwith reference to and below the casings g and h, the lines of this member f being located outward from the center of the parts 9 and h as distinguished from a line which passes through the center of said parts.
Having described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is The design fora bicycle-frame substantially as herein shown and described.
MOSES C. JOHNSON. \Vitnesses:
WILLIAM H. BARKER, CHAs. L. BURDETT.
