Patented Apr. 27, 1897.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES S. COPELAND, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE POPE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A REAR BRACKET FOR BICYCLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,982, dated April 27', 1897.
Application filed March 11, 1897. Serial No. 627,067. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J'AMEs'S. COPELAND, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and original Design for'a Rear Bracket for Bicycles; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and-exact description of the same, and said drawings consti tute part of this specification.
In said drawings, Figure l is a view in rear elevation of the bracket. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the bracket.
My invention relates to a design for a bracket which forms part of the frame at the rear of the bicycle and adjacent to the rear driving-wheel axle, and is of a form which is used as part of or connected to the frame of a gear-driven bicycle.
The said invention consists in the configuration of the structure, as hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying drawings.
The body part a or main portion of the bracket is cylindrical in general outline when viewed from the rear in the line of the axis of the bracket, and at this end presents substantially a flat circular surface for the greater part. A lateral extension Z) from the side of the body part a is formed by a cone-shaped enlargement the fiarin g walls of which merge into the main walls of the body part along its side and at the rear end.
When viewed from the side, the bracket has the appearance of a short cylinder with a semicircular end, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. V
The essential feature of my invention is the cylindrical body part with the flattened back portion and cone-shaped lateral extension.
I claim- The design for a rear bracket for a bicycleframe, substantially as shown.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES S. COPELAND. Witnesses:
FELTON PARKER, F. K. OASWELL.
