Description

DESIGN.
J. s. COPELAND. REAR BRACKET FOR BICYGLES.
No. 26,984. Patented Apr. 27, 1897.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES S. COPELAND, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE POPE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A REAR BRACKET FOR BICYCLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,984, dated April 27, 1897'.
Application filed March 11, 1897. Serial No. 627,069. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, JAMEs S. COPELAND, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and original Design for a Bear Bracket for Bicycles; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and said drawings constitute part of this specification.
In said drawings, Figure 1 is a top or plan View of the bracket. Fig. 2 is a View in rear elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the bracket, seen from the rear.
My invention relates to a design for a bracket adapted to form part of the frame of a bicycle adjacent to the part where the rear driving-wheel is connected to the frame, and this bracket is of a form which is used as part of or connected to the frame of a gear-driven bicycle.
The said invention consists in the configuration of the bracket,as hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying drawings.
The body part a of the bracket is cylindrical in general outline when viewed from front or rear, and at the rear end presents a distinct flat surface, substantially circular as to the greater part of its outline. At one side of this body the walls flare outward and unite with the narrow periphery of a lateral extension b, which is of a diameter considerably larger than that of the body part a.
The peculiar feature of this design consists in the substantially cylindrical body part of the bracket, which presents, when viewed from the rear, a prominent flat surface of circular outline as to the whole or greater part of its periphery.
I claim The design for a rear bracket for a bicyclefraine, substantially as shown.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES S. COPELAND.
Witnesses:
FELTON PARKER, F. K. OAsWELL.
