(Application filed July 5, 1899.)
Wz'tzz esses 15204272602 I UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
MOSES C. JOHNSON, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE HELIX GEAR COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FoR AQEARING-COVER FOR VEHICLE-FRAMES;
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No; 31,321, dated August 1, 1899-.
Application filed my 5, 1899- Serial No- 72Z,878. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Moses C. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Hartford, in the county of Hartford and 5 State of Connecticut, have invented a new and firiginal Design for a Gearing-Cover for Veicle-Frames; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in I Figure 1,aviewin side elevation of the gearing-cover; Fig. 2, a View in front elevation of the gearing-cover, and Fig. 3 a view in rear elevation of the gearing-cover.
My invention relates to a design for covers for gearing, which as a whole is a special article of manufacture and when connected to 0 or forming part of the frame of a bicycle or like vehicle includes the crank-shaft, gearing-con nectin g shaft, and the rear-wheel-gear covers; and said convention consists in the configuration of the structure, as hereinafter 5 described, and shown in the drawings.
The structure as a whole presents when viewed in side elevation an elongated body part a, substantially cylindrical in outline and terminating at the front and the rear ends in o the short cylindrical enlargements b c, the lines of the central and end portions of this part merging into each other more or less gradually. Below the part a and at each end are the parts d and e, which are circular in outline when viewed from the side and are 5 short cylinders as viewed from the end, so far as the outline or configuration is concerned. The part 01 has a portion d less in diameter than that part which immediately underlies the body part a, and it is also substantially cylindrical in outline.
When viewed from either end in line with the vertical plane of the structure, the circular ends of the main portion to appear in contact with the edges of short cylinders d e, and this forms a marked and prominent feature of the general design. The essential feature of the design, however, is the arrangement of the body part a, terminating in the short enlargements located above and offset from the centerof the cylindrical parts (1 e.
I claim The design for a gearing-cover for a vehicle-frame substantially as shown and described.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
